Re-Roll Attribute Scores = only toggles between two sets

Skimmed through eight pages and did not see this mentioned, so here we go.

During character creation, there is a button to re-roll your attribute scores. As something of an OCD gamer, I routinely roll TONS of dice at character creation, hoping for the "best" roll I can get. In the course of doing this, I noticed something odd with the Trickster Rogue and the Guardian Fighter:

When you hit the ReRoll button, it seems to generate new numbers... but then if you hit it again, it does NOT generate any new numbers ---- it just re-displays the FIRST set of numbers. If you just hit the ReRoll button over and over and over, you can see that it only ever TOGGLES between those two sets of numbers.

I might have thought that that was intentional --- that "rerolling" just meant that you had ONE other choice (which seemed unlikely). But the Devoted Cleric character I created had access to at LEAST four sets of numbers. Looking at the primary stat, on the Rogue and Fighter it only ever flickered between two numbers (and I did check that the other numbers also remained from just the two Sets of numbers). With the Devoted Cleric, however, the primary attribute took on FOUR different values (17, 18, 19, 20)...

I did not double-check whether every time there was a 17 for primary all the other stats were X set of numbers and never varied.... I would hope that I could have that 17 primary stat and the others WOULD vary, meaning it was a true "re roll" of all numbers. But even if they were the same (which they should NOT be), that's still FOUR sets of attribute scores instead of the two for the Fighter and Rogue.

In short, the "re-roll" button DOESN'T seem to actually re-roll.

I submitted an in-game bug report as well, but thought I'd mention it here, too.

Maybe not a bug, but if it is as restricted as some people has pointed out (it's in the class builds too), there should be some change, either do some real re-rolls or allow us to distribute points ourselves.

the re roll is silly, the OP is correct, its not a reroll its a case of deciding between two choices... why not do it completely random minus 3 points and allow the player to add 3 points manually at the start... at least then you have some chance of your character being slightly unique

Yes they chose an array option and there's another thread about it somewhere where peeps are asking this to be changed.

When rolling my cleric, I found that when I had a score of 20 Wisdom (half-elf) Str and Cha would always be at 13 and the others be at 10, unless one dropped to 8 then another score would be bumped to 12.. but Str and Cha never changes.

I don't think it matters like it does in pnp, but it is kinda crappy to make you roll for something that is limited anyways. Sorry Cryptic : (

Technically there is a potential bug if set up in some certain order you only get two arrays, but yes, you normally get several and yes they are arrays.

I'm quite sure that my elf rogue was only offered two arrays. But it was long ago and I may need access to the server to check again... *wink**wink*

I also noticed this, and I'm hoping it changes by the time the game is launched.

seemed to be happening to me as well. Only had 2 arrays to pick from. I think they are just trying to minimize min/max characters.

If you did NOT choose the Cleric, you would get one of two "variations" on dice rolls. If you did choose the Cleric, you would get more "variety" of dice rolls. They really should drop that and have the system do dice rolls. Or add a LOT more variety than 2 sets.

I can confirm, after rerolling for a while, that as a half-elf cleric you would never get WIS 20 with either both STR >= 14 or CHA >= 14. Thus, they are doing arrays, probably for balancing issues -- however if that's the case, they really should just let us pick from preset options.

As it is, I think point tree choices or picking from templates are probably the way to go. Rolls are always -- meh -- someone will write an app that clicks for you and only those with the uber l33t skills to install and use it will be able to max that stats. Going with point buys or picking from templates == more fun, faster, for the player. Munchkins be darned...
