Anybody know if there will be two handed weapons in the game or will that guardian fighter class be stuck with shield +1h weapon ? Or maybe they will make another heavy melee damage class that will use 2h ? Any info is appreciated.
Thanks

They will likely add in the Great Weapon Fighter or some other class to take advantage of 2H Weapons. As near as I can tell from released videos the Guardian Fighter class is designed as a shield based class.
However this is my assumptions from what I have seen with released information. They haven't confirmed all the specifics on the Guardian Fighter so it may be possible they will be able to use 2H Weapons and just haven't shown us.
In any case the one thing I can absolutely confirm is they will be adding additional classes to the game as time goes on. We won't be limited to the Guardian Fighter forever.

As long as I eventually get the two blade ranger class I'll be happy
Great weapon fighter will be in at release I'm pretty sure? Didn't they mention one in one of the show videos? Ranger should be able to use a HAMSTER sword if they desire as well. (A hand and a half sword).

The only classes they confirmed are Control Wizard, Trickster Rogue, Guardian Fighter, and [Subtype] Cleric (as per the Chinese PW Website)
Anything more than that would be great but officially confirmed classes we are limited to those.

IN one of the threads in here somewhere a dev told us twf would be possible as long as we fit the prerequisites for it. Not quite sure what he meant by that but seems to indicate more options than we think, one can hope anyways.

This thread reminded me of why I am becoming more and more deterred from the game.... forced to play a specific class just because you like a certain weapon? It makes me sad. Even Gandalf had a long sword.

Agreed.
I would rather them delay release a few months to get a nice compliment of classes in the game. The last thing I want to do is be forced to play a character I have no affinity to because a certain weapon set isnt included at release.

Character is what a man is in the dark
Considering how numerous vids shows a 2h wielder I highly doubt that one has to go with a sword and board and really there is very very VERY little about the game released. So everything is held with a grain of salt.
Could simply be that there is no specialty of the class and the specialties are simply just skill categories like how in WoW you have talent trees that are characterized with a certain category like "Fury" "Arms" "Protection."

I sincerely hope this is not true. The fact that World of Warcraft must be mentioned while speculating the features of a D&D game is really discerning.
I'll be honest here, I hardly know anything about 4e rules (haven't read up on it yet) but it sounds like you can pick feats from other classes. This substitutes multi classing. It would be cool to be able to sneak attack with magic missile like you could in 3.5 and also make weapon and armor proficiencies available to everyone.

Your DM is letting you get away with alot if your sneak attacking with magic missile.. first it says you cant target a specific location for the spell to land which would force me to rule against it.. then it doesnt make an attack roll, 3rd seen here wizards states...
Spells as Sneak Attacks
Any spell that requires an attack roll and deals damage can be used in a sneak attack. In this case "damage" is normal damage, nonlethal damage, ability damage, or energy drain. You can sneak attack with a Melf's acid arrow spell, but not with a magic missile spell.

It would be shocking to me if WoW wasn't mentioned early and often in all aspects of any MMO, especially one based in a fantasy world. It's sort of the gold standard these days!

I can see why you came to this conclusion but in my opinion mmo's need to get away from wow, not because I didn't like wow, which I didn't but because you'll never make the next great mmo following in another's shadows..
But d&d has many many more years making a RPG than wow, and if done right has everything it ever needs and does not or should not need to reference other mmo's, anything they need is already in their backyard.
Perfect world has a lot of games so I am confident they will do the game justice if given the ability and backing needed.

Based on screenshots, it's very likely feats will be handled as talent trees. I also look forward to the GW Fighter. If I can't make Bob the Barbarian I can make him this fighter!

This might work if they put powers into categories of a sort, although it would be a real step away from the 4e mechanics.
Honestly, 4e (tabletop) isn't that far off of a pen and paper MMO. There are threat mechanics that 3.5e and earlier editions never had (all defender classes have a mechanic called a 'mark' that gives the enemy -2 to hit anyone but them). In the tabletop version, choosing sword and board specialty over great arms warrior is really a difference of a) power selection (called exploits for fighter, afaik) and b) a +1 to hit with either one handed or two-handed weapons. Keeping that in mind, it would be a cinch to build a great-weapon fighter just by adding in more exploits to support such a choice. And while I say 4e is comparable to a pen-and-paper MMO, it's really quite different from Warcraft in many respects, mechanically.

I cannot recall the source I read it (or seen it) but if I remember right someone of the devs said "I can't wait to show you the two weapon fighter". Or something like that. In my opinion that means that the particular fighter build is at the mid or late stages of the design. Bear in mind that this is just my speculation and nothing more. I sure hope that it will be there at release. So yeah, there will be two-handed weapons eventually if not in the first day.

seriously.. IF there is no 2h weapon on first day this is so much fail...
i can do without avenger and barbarian classes at first, but no 2h ? i think even Diablo 3 had more than 4 classes and they had the choice of different weapons.
my hopes are still high enough... please let this game be GOOD

Funny I was thinking the same with Ranger bow (sniper.) As long as we get those options though, we'll be happy.

Neverwinter Thieves Guild
Dang his non-detailed reply and silence since then! We want MOAR!
Agreed.

That doesn't sound very D&D to me. How many campaigns start with everyone in their own race's hometown?

As for D&D as wow, I have no further comment.

And here you can get more details showing it's not just swords.
Of course it's not finished or it would be released already. I'm sure it's being fully staff tested as we discuss things here.
