I think we need a companion or vanity pet that will go and pick up all the loot on the ground. there must be millions just laying on the ground that is never picked up, such a waste. How many think this is a good idea?

You can always loot that yourself. I always pick up everything. If you really want to get everything and don't want to pick that up, what you wish for should not be a loot companion or vanity pet. The wish should be the game just flies the loot to you inventory without dropping to the ground. Of course, inventory full is an issue.

well when u are in a party and no one waits for u to pick it up it would be good

If you are in a party, your party won't like your companion stays behind or using a companion that has less combat ability. The current vanity pet is too slow. You could finish the whole dungeon before it reaches the first spot. You may as well just go back to pick up the loot after you finish the dungeon. That means they will need to 'improve' vanity pet first.
So, what you really want is the loot just files into your bag automatically.

I find it really satisfying when I do a random skirmish and the group has really good loot hygiene 😀 Otherwise, I'm the one following behind and picking up (it's a pick-up group after all!) As a crafter I know the value of gold, and who doesn't want to lie in a swimming pool full of black pearls? 😀 BTW, there's something about Kessel's Retreat that gives me extra aquamarines... not sure why.
But plasticbat is right, there would be as many complaints as thanks. People used to complain about other players looting stuff and causing a roll for the party... that's why we have the auto-roll system that we have. And once the devs even said that stuff left lying on the ground contributed to poor performance in the game...
I think it's quite good as it is... most stuff you just have to walk over so it's quick enough for someone to do without slowing the group too much. As for picking up at the end, sometimes it all disappears when the boss is killed 😔
Be thankful you don't have to tap F every time for almost every single item you pick up, because that's how it used to be. They upgraded it at some point so you could just run over things and it auto picked them up, but before this most everything had to be manually clicked. xD
Apparently pointing-out the bleeding obvious is a 'personal attack'.

And people cried and whined; "Don't slow us down".
I'm not looking for forgiveness, and I'm way past asking permission. Earth just lost her best defender, so we're here to fight. And if you want to stand in our way, we'll fight you too.
Drops that are connected to tradable items that are part of a competitive market system arguably “should” be manually picked up by players.
Take the Masquerade of Liars (Liar’s Charms) and Protector’s Jubilee (Renown) for example. With the MoL and PJ players would definitely be able to “inactively AFK farm” for tradable rewards instead of at least having to move around to pick up drops (essentially only having to move the character slightly and or use powers every so often to remain logged in while a companion defeats enemies).
Currently players pick up what they want, if they don’t want it/are AFK they don’t pick it up for the most part (although sometimes drops will land close enough to where a stationary character can pick them up automatically). A looting companion/vanity pet would allow players to get rewards that they otherwise probably would not have (not stating that this is necessarily a bad thing). It’s the type of rewards to be gained that makes the difference.
If such a thing were to be used in recovering drops that are account/character bound, not tradable, are group loot, money (gold, silver, copper) or RP, sure, why not though if they were to be used to gather items/currency that could then be used to obtain tradable items and or bound Coalescent Motes (because even if the CM’s themselves are bound, the items they can be used on won’t necessarily be bound as well), then no, personally wouldn’t support it.
