The big problem with the Dragonslayer campaign

.. there is no replay value.

The Dragonslayer campaign actually is a very nice campaign. The encounters are well tuned and the rewards are first class and well thought out.
Fights are challenging, but winnable. You need to focus and it takes effort to win.

But: Once you have completed the campaign and gotten your gear and boon point, there is no reason to go back. Ever.

This is starting to be very noticeable now:
The first big wave of players are getting done with it.
And it suddenly is next to impossible to find tank and heal for Ancient dragons.

We know tank and heal are in short supply.. and once they are done with the campaign there is no reason for them to go back.
We are there now.. very few tank and heal want to put any more effort into killing Dragons.

Ouch.

Cryptic should put in some secondary rewards that give people with completed campaign at least SOME incentive to revisit.
1000 RAD doesn't quite cut it :)

This is not a big problem with dragonslayer campaign only. The same can be said for other campaigns.

The big difference between dragonslayer campaign and others is you don't really want to do that more than once. I don't even want to do it once. For other campaigns, people send multiple characters to go through them and these are extra tanks and healers. If they have a new character, they will also do those for that new character. However, for dragonslayer, I don't think it will happen.

    But most other campaigns:
    * Are more or less soloable
    * And if there is a dungeon you get two standard chests as reward. Those are not that bad after they fixed them.
    * And any group kills in other campaigns usually are pushovers :)

Beyond the gear items the rewards from dragons are pretty slim. Can't even reroll the chest.

Getting help on the Adult dragons is drying up.
I'm not looking for forgiveness, and I'm way past asking permission. Earth just lost her best defender, so we're here to fight. And if you want to stand in our way, we'll fight you too.

It is good that this 'campaign' cannot be solo so that I could just give up right in the beginning without any imagination that I might do it. If I can solo and do 100 dragon hunt per character, I may do it and then ask myself I am doing this for what. 8 characters means I need to do 800 times?

The first character gets 100k AD and 1 Boon point. Following characters get 5 gp and 1 boon point. I am running this until I get gear for the various classes and then stopping.

The dragons are either pushovers for a decent group or else the amount of CC makes it a scroll festival. I don't think this is good design at all. Even beyind that, 100 of any fight is too much. If not for the gear in the store I wouldn't have bothered at all.

    Yeah its an annoyign campaign,

I was excited about the thought of "Dragon Hunting" like the Barovia Hunts.

But this is just a grind slog and as above, for melee toons its just a royal pain in the you-know-where.

My only suggestion would be to add one more toon to each party:

    2 for young,
    4 for adult
    6 for ancient

But yeah, old campaign zones are pretty dead. I am re-doing some of New Sharandar and getting help on the various HEs is pretty much a waste of time.

I do agree the dragonslayer "campaign" (quotemarks) is not well designed, but I also can't understand this :

We know tank and heal are in short supply.. and once they are done with the campaign there is no reason for them to go back.

Helping friends and guildies is not a reason to go back to something someone is done with ?

(edit : i quoted the wrong user ^^, mistakingly attributing the words to @unknowndrama , it's now corrected :P)

I have in the past and would again, help someone unlock Sharandar or complete one of its BHE. Helping someone do 12 ancient dragons to get their weekly haul is another story entirely. Other campaigns have intermittent story quests and weeklies that a new player might struggle with. This is just a massive slog from one end to another.

12 in a row the same day is in my opinion quite extreme, and the best way to burn someone out.
There are 7 days in a week (call me captain obvious ^^). Doing 2 or 3 dragons per day is fine enough to get the weekly haul. And if you don't manage to reach it at the end of the week, it isn't the end of the world, you will advance at your rythm. The sun is not hurried by early risers.

I have set my limit at 5 dragon runs/day max, which represents more or less an hour (depending on the party ^^), but that's my personnal flavor and usual "boredom/nerve tolerance" in doing the same repetitive thing, and I try to stay disciplined about this "one hour rule".

I really don't mind spending 1h per day, even when it is all I have as playtime, selflessly helping some guildies or friends.
Most of them also don't mind spending some of or all their daily playtime selflessly helping me or any other. But maybe this is a rare specific mindset, and the players who have this mindset are able to eventually find each others, creating a bubble that, maybe, renders those inside, me included, oblivious to the reality experienced by who is not as altruistic and collective, or is yet to find/create his bubble, or unfortunately lost it.

I'm one of the few tanks that enjoy the new dragon hunts, except the black dragon, I'm always happy to run it, I also intend to get gear for all my characters using my tank, now this said I do not want to rerun the campaign on any of my other characters, just no reason to except to farm the equipment faster but with the high ad cost on gear I'd rather take my time anyway so I agree the campaign doesn't have much replayability other than try to farm gear more efficiently but as said you than have a high ad cost to deal with so personally I won't rerun the campaign on another campaign but il happily keep run the dragons on my tank even in random groups, partly to farm gear for other builds or just for the fun of it I do agree rewards after gear is acquired is slacking but I do enjoy the dragon hunts mostly so there's at least on tank who will be there to run dragons for the sake of it.

The gear requires dragon hunter rank, so you have no choice but run dragons with those alts if you want the full gear kit.
You can do youngs to 25, adults to 50, but beyond that it is ancients all the way.

I kind of agree with the original post. Better rewards would be a good idea to improve replayability.

The gear is nice but people that have completed the campaign probably already have bought all the gear they need for that character. Making the gear harder to obtain would have been a temporary solution to have players playing the campaign for longer but that's not a good option in my opinion.

On the other hand the problem kind of fixes itself in the very long run. Once the gear becomes obsolete almost nobody will want to complete the campaign only to get 1 boon point and missing that one boon point doesn't make any real difference in a character build when we have 100 or more boon points.

All the gear is account bound so no I can farm all gear with a single character than transfer gear to another so no from what I can see I don't have to run the campaign on the alts

If you inspect the gear with an unranked character you will see that the gear requires dragon hunter rank to wear.

    Mythic gear:
    Helmets and gloves are free
    Epic page rings 30
Mythic page rings and legendary shirts 50
    Boots and legendary pants 75
    Breastplate 100

I think the requirement is the requirement to purchase and not requirement to equip.

e.g. The following red text is obviously about the purchase.

To be consistent, the following red text should also be about purchase. For equip requirement, it should be in the first section such as under "Minimum level: 20".

I have purchased and equipped mythic armor on multiple characters who are rank 2. The only requirement is to buy.

Yeah that's what I thought would be case so I don't have to run dragon hunts on alts

I noticed this with New Sharandar (Dragonbone Vale is becoming the same, as did Avernus). There’re so few people there and practically no help with BHEs if that’s what you need. I see people struggling to do the 5 point quests to get their weekly cap. At least they *can* struggle through it.

I'd just wished they slightly boosted the reward's especially for some of the BHE's a little bit, maybe throw in a Gem, &/or a bit of Silver (2-7 RNG) sort of thing) ... anything to help with this especially for Big/Major Heroic's many need to do their weekly's.

Not everyone starts or does everything right at the start of the week, as it depends on the Character, and what everyone's focus is. Won't make it perfect, yet would help encourage more to help, especially if their weekly Heroic's are already done. o:)

The Campaign lm guessing is supposed to be a time filler while they work on the future of this game. No story, copy paste gear. Kill dragons, get stuff. Wash rinse repeat.
Lots of the old players have left and lots of guilds and Alliances are empty.
This is an easy way to keep the base busy while they figure out what’s next. It’s not sustainable because it wasn’t supposed to be. If it was, all future mods will be this.

At this point, I almost want them to change combat again lol
    Almost.

The game now is waiting. Will events get better
Will any release not be bugged
What positive steps are they making.
The game has to change to flourish. The way it is now is bleeding it out slowly. It may get a bump from the D&D movie, but if nothings changed, they won’t sustain it. Nostalgia only goes so far

Since most ppl are at rank 100 and have completed the Dragonslayer campaign, how are the rest supposed to reach that? Guildies and friends are willing to help with lets say 12 hunts today, but what about next week and the 6/7 weeks after that? Forcing us to do 12 x ancient dragons every week to be able to complete the campaign is kinda a bad idea on many different levels. Also a lot of ppl asking for 65k IL, even BOA and Ribcage or they dont take you with.

People still run the hunts to kit out alts, I for one am one who has everything for my main and am now working on kitting out my alternate characters, 12 ancients dragons per week really isn't that bad works out to upto 2 per day to not burn yourself out. Yes there's too many people who don't understand scaling, and too many people who want to be carried by BoA users, this is true button can still run public and there are still people who will continue to run the dragons to kit out other characters and to help friends.

Go to Sharandar or Dragonbone Vale. See how many instances are up and how many players in each. It has been difficult to get enough people to do BHEs in Sharandar - even in alliance runs. I expect hunts will be the same rather quickly. IMO it's not even a campaign - just a store that requires doing a certain task to earn special currency.

@masteryoda#6623 The problem isn't getting into groups now, the problem is the groups are drying up and will keep drying up as more and more people get their gear.

This isn't logical, how can the groups be drying up if there isn't any problem finding groups.

The difference you here is that there's nothing wroth getting from the sharander and dragonbone Vale campaigns, while the dragon hunts offer BiS gear for running the queue gear that is relevant for all classes and roles and is meant to be the BiS gear for the forseeable future means there will activity in the hunt for a long time still, and currently on ps4 the max time I've waited for a group is no longer than 10mins and that almost never happens more often than not I have 0 wait time for pub groups.

Said every player after mod 3 (Black Ice), and mod 5 (Tyrranical), and mod 7 (Twisted), and mod...well, you get the idea.

"Foreseeable future" is only accurate if you can only see 6 months ahead. By this time next year, BiS gear will be whatever the next zone / map offers.

We shall see how it develops currently I can't see the relevance of this gear going down hill anytime soon especially with no RNG to factor in
