How about fixing the lag

caenyyencaenyyen Member Posts: 7 Arc User
After logging on after today's maintenance, I spent more time going a few meters over and over again. It took over 15 seconds to get a quest and then it took another 15 seconds for it to show on the npc. Then I tried to start to the quest location and it's back to covering the same ground (movement) again. This happens to some degree after every maintenance, but to today the game is unplayable because of it.

Yea, it's pretty bad this time. At Lostmauth my toon was ping-ponging all over the arena...

After maintenance that includes a patch, everyone login will have to download the patch. Depends on the patch size and how many people are logging in, the network traffic volume will increase. So, if you login as soon as the server comes up, expects heavy network traffic. It will take hours for it to be 'normal' depends on the patch size.

Neverdeath Graveyard is a complete joke rightnow, a total mess. Shards with 1,2,5, players on them and cant ven get across fIrst bridge without constant rubber banding to the soup below constaNtly.
With all the shard maintenance this game gets each week it still runs like its hosted off a 1980's ZX Spectrum or worse a ZX81.

I found out that change of instance can help. Well, if there is more than one instance. I had same problem at Bryn Shander and Vallenhas. But, when i changed instance - no problems with constant rubberbanding.

Pretty bad lag tonight after the patch ( 7pm pst). Running some ME's was disconnected twice in each run, for 6 total times the game kicked me to login screen. Each time I was able to immediately able to log back in and finish the runs. I very much doubt its a server population issue at this time, no issues on my end and a recent patch make it plausible that something is wrong. Also while writing this, accessing the arc website is taking quite a bit longer than usual.

Lag was so bad earlier this afternoon that I logged out. Wasn't much better this evening. (

Some instance is worse than the other. I mean the instance itself and not what is running in the instance.

e.g. I finished a siege without any lag. Then, I jumped to an "empty" instance for another siege. "Empty" as I did not need invite and when I arrived, there were only 16 players and the Siege was not even started. I had lag right there. I gave up (after 2 minutes) and jumped to another one. There was no lag.

Was just running (or attempting) to run RTQ - CODG. Several of the queue group members mentioned that the lag was quite intense. Game crashed. Crash report number 118816.

    Thanks

Lag seems to be pretty bad atm. Seems to coincide with the recent patch.

Yes, switching instances CAN help, because there might be a couple of hamsters (server hardware) that have less work to do than most. The game is rather obviously run on several hamsters (physical and/or virtual servers), with one hamster controlling several instances. If you are lucky, switching an instance might place you into an instance that is currently controlled by a hamster that is not yet running at full speed.

But if most instances lag (which is the case now), it is likely
    - a software problem (introduced by the current patch)
    - a hardware problem (not enough hamsters)

Today, it seems to be just certain zones, like Well of Dragons is mostly unplayable. The other zones I've been in don't seem to be lagging much.
