[PC] Fighter Bugs: Self Buffs Incorrectly Calculating; Heavy Slash tooltip incorrect

A post from the Mod 16 GF rework thread claimed that the GF's damage increasing passives are added to the Crit Severity/CA Bonus section of the damage formula, rather than multiplicative (as all other buffs are).

As of the most recent preview build (7/17/2019 American date style), this post is correct. I am just writing the bug report for it.

Bug: The Fighter's damage buffs are added to the Combat Advantage and Critical Severity part of the damage formula, rather than being part of the separate buff category of damage that has existed since as long as I can remember

The buffs affected are:

-Vengeance above half meter
-Combat Superiority
-Enduring Vengeance
-Determination

This is inconsistent with the multiplicative nature of buffs in the game right now, such as Controlled Momentum.


I'd say I found enough proof that the bug exists on the listed self buffs (sans Determination because it doesn't have a popup in ACT), see below.

Character used in the following screenshots had the following properties:
-not Dragonborn
-16 STR and 14 DEX
-Vigorous Strikes
-a Rank 10 ArmorPen boon
-1000 fixed damage weapon
-base 5000 CA Bonus
- Rank 12 vorpal
- no other gear equipped

The expected base damage of a Reave that Crits with the above properties would be 692.64

1000*0.3*1.04*(1+(0.75+0.07+0.40))=692.64

where 1000 is the weapon damage, 0.3 is Reave's base damage relative to weapon damage, 1.04 is damage bonus of STR, and the "1+" part represents Critical Severity (75% base + 7% from DEX + 40% from R12 Vorpal).

If we throw in Vengeance (20% buff, in theory), this was the damage I dealt on a Crit.


I dealt 755.04 damage. The only way I could have gotten this calculation was if Vengeance was added to Critical Severity, resulting in:

1000*0.3*1.04*(1+(0.75+0.07+0.40+0.20))=755.04

If Vengeance was a true buff like Controlled Momentum or Chilling Presence, we would deal 831.168 damage, calculated from:

1000*0.3*1.04*1.20*(1+(0.75+0.07+0.40))=831.168

As for the other part of the report, they claim that the "adds to Critical Severity/CA part of damage formula" is correct. The bug is present on Combat Superiority (10% for atwills) as well (worth noting that from my testing, it does not exist on Heavy Slash).

If I use the same character while having the Vengeance, Heavy Slash, and Combat Superiority buffs up all at the same time, I got the following result for damage:



1000*0.3*1.04*(1+(0.75+0.07+0.40+0.2+0.10))*1.05=825.552

For other people out there, let me know if my NW math is a bit rusty or incorrect.

Heavy Slash correctly is in the multiplicative buff category (see last post), but its tooltip is bugged.
Heavy Slash's tooltip lists a magnitude of 100, when it is really dealing 80 magnitude damage.

This bug was reported to be fixed in this patch note, but this is not actually the case as far as this most recent preview patch.

    Just checked, Enduring Vengeance is also afflicted by the same bug.

    Same character, using a 100 fixed damage weapon, but with +1 ability scores by campfire.


    Expected damage with Vengeance (add 20% to CA/Sev category) and max Enduring Vengeance (assuming it was a buff):

    100*0.30*1.0425*(1+(0.75+0.075+0.20))*1.05= 66.49870

    Actual damage:



    The damage math shows as:

    100*0.30*1.0425*(1+(0.75+0.075+0.20+0.05))= 64.895630

    IMO the biggest problem with vengeance is the pink eyes.

    In case the devs need more proof...

    Used no gear, 100 fixed damage weapons, 16 STR and 14 DEX, no vorpal.



    Attacked without any buffs at first, then got Vengeance above half, attacked to get a reading, then used Bull Charge to proc Combat Superiority, attacked again, used Heavy Slash, then just hit a few more times to get a reading.

    The first hit deals correct damage of 57.2 (100*0.55*1.04=57.2)

    The hit I deal after hitting half or greater Vengeance deals 115.544 damage after scoring a Crit because of the being added to the CA/Severity part of the formula, rather than being multiplied like other buffs such as Controlled Momentum or Chilling Presence.

    100*0.55*1.04*(1+(0.75+0.07+0.2))=115.544

    Heavy Slash is the weird buff exempt from this bug. The hit after Heavy Slash deals 78.078 damage because its buff is (correctly) separate from the CA/Severity category of damage. In this hit, I still had the Vengeance buff and had Combat Superiority procc'd from Bull Charge.

    100*0.55*1.04*(1+(0.2+0.1))*1.05=78.078.

    I'd say fixing this bug might bring Fighter to non bottom tier status...

    It is both on live and on preview.

    The first few posts were done on preview.

    The last post where I asked kreatyve to move this log was done on live.

    Apart from this but also from fighter, could you check the proc of retaliate on vanguard path? either its miliseconds to reléase the tab button or it doesn't proc every time the shield is red
