I can't fathom how an unbound item becomes bound when exchanging with the NPC. The mount insignias are not bound, nor the bonding runestones but the enchantments become bound. It's my fault for not seeing the fine print that item will be bound on exchange?
Please remove the binding aspect (and if possible unbind what I've bound).

No, it was not a technical debate at all. It was a design debate. Dev decided to do it that way intentionally. People had argued about that decision for months.
People did complain on preview about this, but we lost that fight..just as we lost the scaling is screwed up right now fight.
With the armor/weapon/regular enchants, it is more of a courtesy - people are exchanging less-useful items for those that suit the new requirements a bit better. You may be able to do a player-to-player trade to exchange unbound for unbound - the issue is that some enchantments, like Feytouched, Terror and silveries have dropped significantly in value and usability, so supply outweighs demand for those.
I expect the edlirch/insignia tabs to remain permanently, but the option to exchange regular enchants is temporary. will probably disappear in June.
