Tales of old - is this alt friendly?

nathanjmnathanjm Member Posts: 103 Arc User
With a posted "optimum ilevel of 16K", does this event have anything for alts in the 10-12k level?

Basic feedback:
Can I just get the old dungeons as-is, maybe just scaled to level 73? No gimmicks, which might be causing extra lag. No currencies. No extra grinds. No time limit. Just 5 folks queuing for a dungeon, and a reward chest at the end.

Barovia Hunts did this best in my opinion. You could customize the hunt with extra mechanics, but that was entirely optional. The basic hunt just worked, no lag, no gimmicks, and were fairly polished at release.

I think that they should have made it like the illusionist gambit and started it off easier so the first wave would be possible to complete with an item level of 13000, next with an IL of 14000 and so on. Giving the team the option to vote to end after each round. It should have been queueable as well. Getting teams together requires too much work and makes the waiting time too long.

Then there is the whole lagging issue making it 10 times harder to survive in there.

If this had been a permanent addition to the lists of quests then the IL of 16000 would have been okey as it would be something that would unlock when you get there. But making it an event makes it impossible for many players to participate if they haven't got a character to that level yet.

"When a new Tales of Old event begins, players (level 15+) will be able to talk to Nipsy, the traveling Tabaxi, near the event dais in Protectors Enclave. Listen to Nipsy’s tale and enter the dungeon if you choose to accept the challenge! "

Which lvl 15 character has a IL of 16000 and got a chance to complete even the first difficulty setting?

U should be able to do this thing with 12k alts, the dungeon is fairly easy (the 16k IL is totally overkill to the point where u one hit every Boss)

You need to read the whole paragraph in game. After they say the "optimum ilevel of 16K", it also tells you you can enter with lower item level and not be afraid because they scale it (or something written in that context).

There's no scaling in this quest, if there is supposed to be, then they broke that part. We ran it with a full team where the lowest IL someone had was close to 14000. People were killed by single shots from the mobs, not the mini bosses or the main boss, but by the mobs. By the time we got to the end and fought the dragon we had dies too many times to survive that fight without failing the quest. That was the first run, which means on the easiest setting.

this is the exact problem iv'e run into which is why they need to balance it out a bit more. sure i'd expect to get 1 hit by a boss but not by a mob. that's rediculous.

according to the event info players are supposed to be scaled up to 16 000 but i think you might be onto something about it being broken.

I don't understand what exactly was supposed to be scaled. The minstrel tells us "Everyone entering the dungeon will be scaled up to the maximum level allowing everyone to tell a story."

Did that mean now you would be 16000 iLvl or did that just mean you would be 70? Either way it is broken. I think many of us expected our stats to increase if we were under 16000, but they don't.

One example: A new char I made during Neverember Incentives is now 70, roughly 10k iLvl, about 150k HP, 15k power, etc. I realize now she is not anywhere close to doing this event, though before the event I had thought that was a possibility. If I were to take her to the Tyranny of Dragons area in Icespire Peak (scaled down to level 49), I become 45k HP and 5.5k power, etc - scaled down - makes sense. I think my expectations of being scaled up are based on this concept. However, when she walks into this event - no changes in any stats. She's still 10k iLvl with 150k HP, 15k power, etc. Splat.

For giggles, I took a level 16 into the event just to see. Still level 16. No changes in any stat.

If scaling was what was intended to make this more of a level playing field (and to make this event inclusive for more of their player base), then the event is very broken.

In addition, it is completely unclear to me, if you don't participate during this first week of the event, is there now little value in participating in further weeks of the event during the year because you will never be able to get enough rewards if you miss out on this one?

My 14-15K toons get only a few extra K HP inside the event. All other stats the same. If the scaling is only HP, then it is useless. Not that it matters to me, I didn't bother with the event. Since scaling has always been questionable, everyone will prefer a natural 16K toon over a scaled one.

Even if the scaling worked well, every one sees the 16K as min item level. Considering many people group for RAQ/REQ to avoid 11/12K players, should be no surprise that players under 16K have a hard time getting into groups.
