Tired Companions

hannasielhannasiel Member Posts: 65 Arc User
All of my companions are acting weird. The little sprites and the humanoid types all stop their animation after a short time and just stand on the ground with the head and shoulders slumped over and their arms hanging down as if they have lost their energy. I have seen other players' companions do this also. Is this a known bug?? Just started with the recent patch.

'Wen considered the nature of time and understood that the universe is, instant by instant, recreated anew. Therefore, he understood, there is in truth no past, only a memory of the past. Blink your eyes, and the world you see next did not exist when you closed them. Therefore, he said, the only appropriate state of the mind is surprise. The only appropriate state of the heart is joy. The sky you see now, you have never seen before. The perfect moment is now. Be glad of it.' Terry Pratchet The Thief Of Time

Thanks Jorifice1. Nice to know others have noticed how stupid it looks. Looking forward to seeing it fixed.

Seems to affect NPCs all over Faerun that tend to stand in one place and not be interacted with.

Since changing default poses isn't a 'bug' - it has to be implemented as a change in the animations and code - it was an intentional change by one or more devs...maybe a little passive aggressive message to their overlords at Cryptic???

@nitocris83 Personal note to the developers, this is actually depressing to me. I take Effexor for my depression, but I can't play the game as much as I would like, running around with companions who look worse than I feel most of the time. Please repair it, I barely put in any time at all now with this glitch. I am not joking about this, it makes me psychologically depressed. I thank you for your attention.

i hope the depressed/zombie companions isnt an intentional change. it's not funny or cute. I don't like my companions doing it.

Thanks for having the fortitude to speak up on this. If you are experiencing this, chances are good other playerss are too but can't or won't speak to it.

Mods - please make this a priority for the devs to see and address asap.. It's not a joke or a simple customer service matter.

I had noticed this. I thought maybe it was a new "you've been idle too long animation" then my rogue companion did it after like 5 seconds. I thought he was just being an HAMSTER.

I also do not like this narcoleptic companions. Maybe if it happened after 10 minutes or more but it seems to kick in within seconds.

I believe this is unintentional. At least, I hope this is unintentional and it would be nice to hear, when this problem will be addressed? What I am asking you here, @nitocris83 is this issue been added to the whiteboard yet?

No not 10 minutes, not 10 hours, I want this off. It is driving me insane.

This issue has been forwarded to the dev team. That's all I personally can do at the moment. I don't know where it would fall in terms of priority.

Thank you, I have read the patch notes and I am glad to see that this is on the short list at least.

Yeah, few things are less inspiring than to see a character that's supposed to have your back while you play - asleep on their feet.

I don't know why anyone thought this would be a good idea (or if it is just some kind of "glitch"), but I personally don't like it.

    Just my 2¢

I have not heard a single positive comment on this change.
Hopefully it gets fixed sooner rather than later.

There are dozens of emotes that companions could do while standing around, and pretty much all of them would be better than this one.

like why not a "waiting" emote? like standing with arms crossed or something? i beleive a simmaler emote to what im thinking of is used by the player character in the aquisitions quest with the eggs.

If they wanted to add an idle emote, it should be added to the player character and pertain to their current activity.

    Such as;
    • If I am idle reading my mail there should be a note in my character's hand and intently studying it.
    • If I am working on my build, there should be book and the character is making notes in it.
    • If I am just away from keyboard about to be kicked, juggling, dancing, almost anything but never sleeping.
The only valid reason to add an idle emote to the character would be, to indicate we are busy reading a menu or something. There is absolutely no reason to add it to our companions.

I don't know about anyone else but if I'm idle or busy doing something else that takes my attention away from the environment out on a quest map, I would hope the companion who is supposed to be there to support me would be (at least appear to be) keeping an eye out for bad guys...

If I'm in a totally safe environment however my companion can feel free to whip out a chair and sit, play an instrument, juggle, do calisthenics, actually lay down and catch a couple of "z's" or whatever - except look like they are so bored with what I'm doing, that they fall asleep on their feet after a second or two of inactivity.

Perhaps someone should add a player emote where the player slaps their companion in the back of the head and says: "Wake-up lummox! It isn't always about keeping you entertained."

    Just a thought...
