Winter Festival for Beginners

A short sharp post explaining what to do would be really helpful here. I haven't bothered with this festival before so could some kind soul put up a very brief outline of what to do daily? It would also benefit lots of other new players

There are plenty of videos on YouTube, none of which I can link here due to profanity in the videos. I haven't watched them all, so maybe one or 2 are ok.

It's pretty straight forward..go talk to the mayor by the campfire in the middle and he gives you 3 dailies. First one is to talk to the giftmaster to receive a coupon which you use in the zen market for a free starlight parcel and it's done. Second one sends you to look through the giant telescope and then talk to the guy next to it and it's done. Third one has you participate in the 3 activities in the zone..a race (all you have to do is stumble your way down the course..you don't really lose or anything), kill 10 monsters in an icy area opposite the entrance and finally catch 5 fish of the same type. It takes all of 5 min to complete all the dailies. Check out the vendors to see if anything appeals to you and if not then at least save up some "gifts of simril, find a few people to group with and open all your gifts together and you might get some free comp, mounts etc :)

Gift parties net you Starlight Bags which are basically the same as the Parcels except that the contents are BTC. They share a count with the Parcels so you should only open Bags until your counter hits 20, that way the unbound Parcel loot is of the best quality.

One thing to remember, trade in your daily Starlight Voucher straight away for a Starlight Parcel as they expire after 24 hours if you don't.

Actually if its like previous years several of the epic quality items you get are BTC regardless of Bag or Parcel it comes from. I am hoping the updated the loot tables this year too. But they didn't seem to be changed last year so I doubt they did this year either but we will see.

There are certain items that are BtA or BtC regardless of the source, true. But they are item specific and probably not intentionally bound. Event items like the Champion's Charger probably just never got updated. Most epic mounts and pets are properly set according to the source.

There is also a daily quest from the builder in the stronghold, if you are in a guild, to find some refugees in trade for a couple of vouchers for the coffer if you need those.

For my minimum daily routine for all the capable toon.

Talk to the mayor. Get everything.
Talk to the lady by the bridge. Get the parcel.
Go to the telescope. 'F' it and then talk the guy next to it.

Just stash everything and not touch them.
Move unbound stuff to shared bank to save space.
May join a gift party after a week or two.

Possible glitch in Simril Winter Fest 2017: Unable to sell any treasure to Sirac of Suzail; TIA for info or workaround.

For anyone who doesn't know what to do in the festival. I've made a guide on it:

Ok and thanks for the helpful advice.

On another topic though, for a level 70 relatively high geared character is it worth doing? I only see a purple mount with two slots? Is anything else worth getting?

If done properly, you can get plenty of unbound epic companions and epic mounts which can be sold on the auction house. Next to that, you can get preservation wards, scrolls of mass life and bonding runestones (also bound/unbound).

I think you can guess the answer now

    Gift giving only gives:
    - Starlight Bag
    - Fortune Star
    - Light of Simril
    - All kinds of lumen

The rewards are in the Starlight Bags (bound to char) and Starlight Parcels (unbound).
