Can we get a power associated with the deity that we choose in the character creation.

Something like: ... edited (roughly half)
-For Amaunator (sun and time) a large circle of sunlight hits and dazes doing fire damage, also all mobs are slowed (time), any underdark mobs suffer additional combat advantage.
-For Chauntea (nature) a field of flowers sprout causing moderate DOT on mobs and moderate healing over time for players.
-For Corellon (elven god) 5 ghostly elven warriors appear and shoot arrows at the enemies, these ghosts draw aggro and cannot be killed during the powers time frame.
-For Kelemvor (death) judgement is determined on the enemies in the area, 1 mob per second for the 10 seconds of the power receives damage equal to 1/4 players HP up to 1/2 of the mobs max HP, whichever is least, and the players defense is increased by an additional 500 during this time.
-For Moradin (dwarf god) all allies within range gain +500 armorpen, 500 power and 500 recovery for the time frame and are healed for 10% of max HP over the time frame.
-For Oghma (knowledge) allies are buffed with +1000 crit, +500 defense +500 deflect and all mobs in range are debuffed for 5% resistance for the time frame.
-For Selûne (moon) the players sparkles like stars, all base damage is multiplied by 5% and mobs are dazed giving combat advantage.
-For Silvanus (the forest god) a large circle of grass and trees errupt any mobs in it are rooted for the length of time of the power and are drained of life and given to the caster.
-For Sune (love) all enemies are incapable of attacking and have a defense debuff of 10% as they are entranced.
-For Tempus (battle), all allies are granted 1000 power crit and defense and movement is increased by 10% for the time frame.
-For Torm (law), all mobs take moderate Divine damage over time and all allies get +15% deflect and +20% deflect severity.
-For Tymora (luck) each ally is granted +500 to 4 random stats for the time frame and at the end gain 100% increase in xp gained. Also double drops and gold, and bags of Tymora loot from all mobs in area (whether they died during time or not)

I think the power should last 10 seconds and be refreshed every 5 minutes or 1 min at campfire. Also can't have more than one divine power in action at any point, so when someone activates a power all other powers are unable to be activated for that time frame. I recommend that this power isn't available until level 60.

As there is no current reason to choose one deity over another in the character creation screen this will give the players a reason to choose wisely.

Thoughts? Recommendations? please no bashing.

Edit... invocation blessings:
-For Amaunator (sun and time) +400 defense, +250 combat advantage bonus, +400 recovery
-For Chauntea (nature) +400 recovery, + 400 regeneration, +250 power
-For Corellon (elven god) +400 power, + 400 crit, +250 armpen
-For Kelemvor (death) +400 defense, +400 deflect, +250 lifesteal
-For Moradin (dwarf god) +400 armpen, +400 defense, +250 regen
-For Oghma (knowledge) +400 crit, +400 defense, +250 deflect
-For Selûne (moon) +400 power, +400 lifesteal, +250 crit
-For Silvanus (the forest god) +400 lifesteal, +400 crit, +250 deflect
-For Sune (love) +400 armpen, +400 defense, +250 deflect
-For Tempus (battle), +400 power, +400 crit, +250 defense
-For Torm (law), +400 crit, +400 defense, +250 deflect
-For Tymora (luck) 3 random stats are increased by 350

As there is no current reason to choose one deity over another in the character creation screen this will give the players a reason to choose wisely.

Having deities be a flavor/roleplay consideration instead of a powergaming one is exactly why they don't actually do anything.

If anything, what would be nice is different interactions with npcs depending on what deity your character worships. Even some different quests available, such as the class and race specific quests.* Though I'm not sure why hunter ranger only has one class quest and why paladin has none.

*The same goes for a character's place of origin and backstory.

-" For Sune (love) all enemies are incapable of attacking and have a defense debuff of 20% as they are entranced. "

As a DC i approve of this.
Even better would it be : " all enemies are now in-love with a caster and are unable to attack.

I agree with the general idea ... But the powers you suggest are ... Quite powerful, not to say game breaking ...

Simplest and more realistic option might be an ability point. Moradin +1 con, oghma+1 int etc.

interesting, please expand on that. Probably game breaking but it was a rough idea. if you have a more refined idea please share.

    @nitocris83

Now adding ability points makes some sense.

Of course I skipped right down to: "For Selûne (moon) the players sparkles like stars, all base damage is multiplied by 20% and mobs are dazed giving combat advantage" and then really liked the idea, as a Selûnite DC

They couldn't add a button for it, but WOW wouldn't it be cool to replace the tiny little buffs given by Invocation Blessings with something a bit more potent and deity specific!

Deities don't just hand out blessings to anyone like people handing out candy to kids on Halloween. Deities expect special service in return for special blessings. In Neverwinter, you have to pray six times a day in order to get two Celestial Coins. Though before mod 6, you could only pray three times a day (if I remember correctly) and only received one Celestial Coin a day. And though, while the Celestial Coffers only cost 7 Celestial Coins back then, the Coins would disappear if you skipped a day of invoking. Also, the Invocation Blessings were random and were bestowed immediately upon invoking. There was no saving them up and using them whenever you wanted.

Everquest 2 has a system for receiving divine favors and blessings (buffs) which makes some sense, though it entails a lot of grinding.

Anyway, if you want special temporary buffs from Deities, expect to be asked to perform a difficult task or three in exchange.

And, no, I don't receiving another ability point from your deity is a good idea. The different gods already created the races with strengths and weaknesses in different attributes. For example, Moradin created the Dwarves, that's why they have the ability modifiers which they already possess.

Now theres an idea. A blessing that you get from the invocation crowns that actually do something significant. And perhaps we could have a blessing be different for each deity. edited the main post....

Don't forget, Wild Storm Elixir, Foehammer's Favor Elixir, Sunlord's Gift Elixir, Elixir of Corellon's Blood, Elixir of Steadfast Devotion, all purchasable for Ardent Coins bestowed upon you by invoking your deity. Elixir of Fate which may be purchased with the Celestial Coins bestowed by your deity. Not to mention the Astral Diamond bonus bestowed each day, experience, as well as refining items. They'll even send down an angel to protect you if you pray really hard all year long. Just how much more do you want your deity to do for you?

There is also the yearly or bi-yearly Challenge of the Gods where they pour favors, blessings, and gifts upon you in return for completing trials.

However, I do think that more Deity-specific invocation blessings would be cool.

    How about this?

A Deity-specific Monthly Quest given by Aralynn the Pious in Protector's Enclave which may bestow upon you one of the following: 30k AD, a Power Point, a Retraining Token, a Change Appearance Token, a Name Change Token, 10 Preservation Wards, or one Coalescent Ward (if you're really faithful).

Also, there should be the option of switching which deity your character worships somehow.

make it weekly. I think the religious portion of NW needs as much attention daily as the adventuring portion. Not in making current rewards harder to get, but in getting more significant rewards, buffs, bonus, gifts, blessings. Perhaps the deity power i mentioned in main post needs an adventure to attain and then your able to use it that day. Kinda like the maze engine dailies: Deity says that there is a monster group that needs dealing with in whispering caverns and you go kill that group then return and pray and you get the powers for the day.... something like that.
