Sorry but you don't need PG to be top performer for trapper a full trapper will beat Combat in Dps and most every other player other than GWF in top dps. But since I PVP so I stay with Combat and still am quite respectable in DPS in PVE but my Guildies 200 Il below me can Out dps me that are trapper due to roots they can constantly keep Longstriders buff up with Constriction damage and roots
Same story here, trappers usually beat me by a couple of million, depending on mobs composition.
No idea what my toon is now.

Damage is very viable, feels like a GWF, doesn't leave your brain in a twist. Was like Trapper for 20 min yesterday and couldn't stand the play style. Archery is... usable, but has way too many flaws other than movement speed. Things are in your face, you still gotta shoot cause that's where all your damage goes into.
At 60% crit, got myself an owlbear cub. Works very well for combat. If something doesn't keep moving around then rain of arrows never leaves my tray.
Combat is a very solid choice for PvE right now. Damage and survivability are outstanding, provided you have a bit of gear to back you up. I'd say the earlier comment about it feeling like a GWF isn't too far off, except for the damage model. A GWF will hit like a truck, while you'll apply a hailstorm of hits of your own. If you remember what people said about the old SW Combat with Royal Guard: death by paper cuts.

^^ This, exactly. Combat will do 100k damage from one buffed aimed strike + DoT, flurry procs, blade storm procs, and whatever other procs you have (Lostmauth, weapon enchant, etc).
Archery will do that same damage in the same time with 1 aimed shot, but trades Combat's tankiness for movement speed.
Both are viable, but with the hard hitting groups of mobs in mods 10 and 11, I'd say Combat will be easier to play.
a bis combat melts everything as fast as a gwf, leaving my trapper in the dust.
Rotation? I occasionally run into some combat HR that top dps charts over my 4.3 HR combat but I see trappers @4k still doing more dps but by far Combat is no slouch I have some 225 mil Ecc runs on combat with GF SW DC and OP in party
I just switched to SW Combat last night, and after chatting with @jhpnw in our guild Discord about rotations, had a blast doing dailies in River district, I can say that it's fun again to play my HR. He's ~2.8k (with a negation/normal vorp/a few R10s) and unless the mobs have a lotta AoE, he melts stuff pretty quickly, most of the time in one rotation.
Once I get back to town at the end of the week, I may copy him over to preview and spec into a pathfinder combat to see how that feels.
All in all, I think combat is viable, fun and a nice change from the poor neglected Archery tree that I've been using on this HR since December 2013.
Finished tweaking a few things and now fully pve combat pf spec, and wow, really started to put out the numbers.
and not bad in PVP either but for pve get arm pen to 60% crit to 95%+ crit Ser to 140 life steal to 17% and 21 % with melee then have fun then stack power power power and watch every thing melt

Cant a combatter use deflection instead of lifesteal/defence? Many of the feats works on both crit and deflection. And the orcus set has deflection aswell. Just a thought..
I had silveries on my pet for a while to jack up my deflect, but gave up and swapped to darks. I have 42% lifesteal now, and unless I get whallopped before I get a hit in, I'm immortal. Gave up on slotting soulforges even lol.
@jhpnw - 40k pow, 96% crit, critsev 200%, arpen, hmm, too much, and as I said, prolly too much LS too.

DPS depends quite a lot on overall party composition. Trapper is mainly dot based, so if your party melts everything in seconds usually Combat is better as the initial burst is higher than the Trapper's and then everything is already dead, rinse and repeat. If your party is slower in melting stuff then Trapper starts to be more efficient. Anyway Trapper still has much more versatility,
Le-Shan: HR level 80 (main)
Born of Black Wind: SW Level 80

I do use deflect when need to be tanky aspect of the lone wolf and pathfinders action often find my deflect @ 100% with Shadow demon as pet I still have 24% LS, Shadow demon is pet have 1 rank 12 silver and 2 rank 12 viscous in defense anD azures in offense loyal gear
when don't need to be tanky I swap to aspect of the pack( must stop @ rank 3 due to bug ) and seekers vengeance and with long striders then gushing wound from behind boss its just melts the health bar
I thought Pack rank4 was fixed with the last pass, no?
It is fixed, but the Off-Hand weapon bonus does not work at Rank 4. I just slot Serpents instead in the Off-Hand.
Main - Rydia (HR70) - Xbox One Player only Alts : Storm (SW70), Edge (TR70), AD Farm (CW70), Grunt (GF70), Rosa (DC70), AD AD AD (GWF70), Your Mum (OP70)
Still works, just keep pack at 3. I have it feated on mine.
Basically, offhand feats you have a choice of pack - working at 3, serpents - wai, falcon - wai, and pretty much forget the others, unless you pvp. Archer - falcon, seekers and a hunting hawk would be amazing with aimed shot, if they ever buff the archer path anyway.

The OH bonus was what made it great.
Sigh.

There are some hybrid builds that are also viable. If youre a 4k R12 Bonding, it doesnt matter what build u run everything melts like butter.
