In game voice chat only works in parties/groups. Not guild or local area.

im nearly always in a psn party when i play, i prefer chatting with my guildmates even when i run a dungeon solo, i guess there are alot of people like me, so that might be your problem.
i seriously doubt out of 20 plus dungeons that every single one was in a ps4 chat group.

I do know that some people prefer not to use a headset or mic. Just saying. Or they turn off voice chat after a bad experience. Nothing's worse than being in a voice chat with someone that has a lot of background noise or is being loud or disruptive.

When I get into a group a similar thing happens, the voice icons will light up on the left in the group lost thing, yet no one is talking. While this may seem like a player being weird at first, this seems like it's more than a coincidence after the exact thing happens on 12+ occasions.

Yeah I found that out after the fact. Kinda sad the game doesn't allow multiple chat channels. In other games there is text channels and voice channels. You can swap between any of them. I wish this game would implement that.
I am running a smaller guild and there are around 20 of us and if we all like to be on the same channel. Now it will be 2-3 PSN chats due to PSN chat limitation of 8 players. Ugh....
Please create chat channels to allow us to talk to more than 4 other players, even if it is limited to say, 20, it would be appreciated to see a bigger number of players to talk to in game.
Okay, I was using the PS4 bluetooth headset and upon switching to the inexpensive earbud that come packaged with the PS4 or using a set of Android earbuds and plugging into the controller; I was able to hear and talk to people. Perhaps it's a NAT/router issue and comms for bluetooth and the controller use different ports????

i think i can believe this now but i am still skeptical. I was playing earlier and i said why are you guys up on the ledge (pits) some guy chimed in its probably because the camp is up there. i was like holy HAMSTER someone can talk in this thing, but that was after a disconnect in the same game like a quick reset or something i didn't get kicked all the way out the game just a loading screen for a minute tops then i was back.
I was wondering if I just didn’t know how to set up voice chat properly. I use the Sony wireless headset but I cannot hear or respond to others in this game. I’ll try what pogybait suggested, perhaps it is just the bluetooth. Not sure why I cannot hear others that are talking though?
Yeah I'm hesitant to use it, coming from PC gaming and using Teamspeak the idea of listening to random console kids sperging doesn't exactly appeal a great deal. On TS3 moving to another channel if someone is annoying is a simple mouse click.
I'll have to suck it up at some point, but while leveling and doing dungeons/skirmishes with randoms they are that easy that voice comms aren't really necessary.

The first time I used my bluetooth headset it worked fine as I was in CC chatting to some American dude but ever since I have rarely heard anything and tried communicating to someone but nothing happened. That was in a skirmish i think.
I'll try some different phones I have a Sennheiser set with a mic I'll let you know how I get on.
