I've always given up on DC's when I've dabbled on the PC version - usually in the mid teens. I don't think I'm giving the class a fair try though and I hear good things about the later levels and how it's more about buff/debuff than just heals - which honestly sounds quite interesting.
So, any thoughts on levelling one up in as painless a way as possible?
Building for DPS is a given, but any suggestions on anything else to help? Any decent companions that can help clearing mobs etc.

I like the puppy for the reduced threat bonus and his ability to tank, though he does pretty decent damage. The illusionist manages to do decnent damage. At least thus far.
Knox's Irregulars
It will be a painful process to level one. Run in a group as much as possible. This will speed the process and a cleric is really a support character designed for groups anyway. There is much that will need to be soloed, take your time.
Best companion is a striker that gets into the fight quickly and draws the mobs away from you. Second best is a leader that provides heals or buffs to you.
Like Firesidecat said, running in a group in the Stronghold for Heroic encounters is fast and in a group like that healing is unnecessary, but you will miss out on the story.
Really not getting the R1 ability and what exactly that does. It changes the bar on the left to blue and I seem to get glowy blue spheres circling me, but no real idea what difference that makes. I get that it changes my At Wills so I get a beam type attack.
Other than that, I have indeed run a few dungeons (and healing - at least so far - seems easy enough). Where do I trade the Seals in for the Lv. 5 enchantments?
If you look back to the original D&D tabletop game Clerics were the original battle healers. Mace, shield, plate mail, etc...
Now it appears what was originally a cleric is now a Pally.
I know in other games you get to do a swap of skills, does Neverwinter have this?
I'm looking at ESO where if you swap your weapon you can go from a DPS build to a healer build or go from healer to buffing abilities, etc...That added tactics provides a unique play style and allows for more character customization.
As far as I can tell from guides, once you get to high level, clerics are all about buffing rather than healing. I get the impression it is down to damage resistance buffs and making the party stronger and regen action points faster.
I've heard Paladins outheal clerics if both classes build solely for healing, but honestly I doubt that people wouldn't want to take a cleric for endgame healing.
For your at-wills (the trigger spells), when in divinity mode you get "Punishing Light" on one trigger and Soothing Light on the other trigger. PL is a damage dealer and SL is a direct healing beam to provide a direct heal to someone.
A point you and bengalsfan may not understand. Leveling to 60 is nothing. Healer, DPS, both will do fine. From 60-70 and above it is a whole different world.
I know this game is like a lot of MMOs that have leveling missions where players can learn how to play the class, roles, powers, etc...That is level 1-70 in this game. It use to be level 1-60 but changed if I am not mistaken.
I looked into quite a few builds and feel I found something that will work for me at end game. I know I cannot have said build at level 1 and I know I have to grind to get to end game level, gear, etc...
I'm sitting right now at level 49 in an area that is level 42. I'm simply taking my time running what I can daily. This includes all dailies, dungeons, skirmishes, and normal leveling quest.
I know many state not to do the campaigns until level 70 but I disagree. You are missing out on picking up stuff that will improve your character when you hit level 70. Also you get XP as you do them, helping you reach level 70 faster, faster because the mission awards are based on your current level, therefore you actually can reach end game even faster. I jumped two levels within 10 minutes because of the XP award from the campaign daily and I was able to get my first boon.
When I hit level 70 I have will have some marks to help me buy the gear to get my IL higher. I'm not new to MMOs and I look at everything to see what I can do to get my toon as strong as possible based on the build I am planning.
Yes I may not hit level 70 in 3 days or 4 day or whatever is the quickest time one can hit that. I don't care as I will hit end game with boons and knowledge of mechanics, etc...and all of these little things improve me as a player. I personally know from experience what it is like running with players that do not put in the time or effort to make the best characterpossible and those players ruin MMOs games. I recommend taking your time and learning your class and role as well as getting as much done in appropriate level campaigns as possible.
Personally I rather have a player take their time, learn stuff, get things done as you should, play content as you should and those players will come out stronger and have a better understanding of playing this game than those that simply rush to end game. Now if someone played on PC or XBox before, yes speeding through and going back can work for those players, but not for those who are new to the game.
Only downside is A) you have no gear at 60, you have to go get gear, C) you have no gold, D) you need to have your build planned out before hand, and E) you are useless in the skirmish until about level 55.
But if you want to power level a guy, wait for a skirmish event.

Check out the class forums for better descriptions on Divinity mode. Zephyriah gave a good but very brief description of how that works. Your power levels and spell abilities change as the number of 'glowy blue spheres' increase (3 max). You also need to practice 'refilling' the divinity meter--so that you can max the number of times you cast spells in divinity mode. Usually this just means choosing the correct at-wills to fill your counter the fastest.
For me, playing a DC in a party is tough--you need to really watch the stats of all the other players and keep track of their health and how they play. It means you need to be flexible on choosing your spells--alternating heals or buff/debuff depending on the party level or capability. But it can be very rewarding when you save a group by choosing the correct spells and timing your casting.
1. DC= minimum 100% team dps boost and 50% DR boost without gear or high il requirement.
2. a) <70, DC= righteous for easy solo and fast killing.
b) >70, 1k-2.5k, righteous DO= fragile glass cannon with high performance in debuff and dps
c) faithful DO/AC = the always wanted burst healer, semi pvp player for more glory, seal and conq shard.
d) virtuous DO/AC = just for fun, high number of total healing but not a reliable healer, a minor team wide buff on AP.
3. Always have a slot to any dungeon, since healadins are extremely rare, we will always fill the healer slot in pug.
4. Always wanted for premade speed run even low il as long as you know how to play and use ur skill effectively (see 1.)
5. No stress on killing and dealing damage, if u slack for a few seconds no one will notice from paingiver.
6. First one to die without tank due to high threat from healing.
7. Easy to have one but hard to master due to very large amount of knowledge needed to master and use effectively.
8. Die first in pvp, everyone will aim you or your team is immortal.
9. a) When you are really wealthy, righteous AC is one of the strongest existence in NW.
b) If your party is BIS or at least have high ranks of bonding, your team may get at least 200% dps boost depending on your base power (Need further testing due to new fixes, insignias and new gear)
I am making it a straight healing class. Faithful loadout but still do well in fighting. Well, well enough lol.
I dont have a mic but anyone is free to add me I will do missions with anyone
Blueknight345 is my psn.
I originally played through as a Prot OP. Never worried about anything. Took awhile to kill things, but never worried about dying.
The DC, no problems yet. Level 67 and doing skyward rise at the moment. Found the guide above as a starting point. Basically AOE the HAMSTER out of everything real quick. I use a tank companion (shield maiden level 20) and set it on the hardest mob in the group. She has nothing special.
It's a little more challenging that the OP (of course), as you do have to glide (dodge) every once in awhile, but overall, she AOE's normal mobs down in seconds with a heal thrown in.
Began leveling her to 60 so I could get the DC artifact for my pally, but decided to finish getting her to 70 because I was having so much fun playing the class/build. Not sure if I will do anything with her once I get her to 70, because my main focus is on my pally.
Anyway, used the above guide and found my groove on my DC and haven't looked back. hope it helps.
I have heal DC, which I lv upped without any guild help. It was pure heal build, almost no buff, no debuff. Only heal. And I could say yeah its kinda boring one, require more time to clear quest dungeons and so one. But in other hand heal DC is tank. IF enemies do not kill u with 1 hit, thats mean they can't kill u at all.
How to level up this DC? Simply, grab striker type companion, gear up for damage only, no need def/deflect. U will provide healing anyways.
Bottom line, its not fastest class to level up to max(70 lv). but its not so hard either. If u find friends, guild who assist you, it would be faster.
If u have Dps build DC. Then u need tank or Controller type companion. And thats it..

It's excellent even without the High Prophet gear the author is using. As long as you keep your Resistance Ignored at DPS levels then you'll clear through just about any solo content with ease and be a real asset in T2 dungeons.
It's great to level up with too. I would always recommend DC's go the dps route until they hit L70 even if they intend to run as a full heal build. Only respec after you've got most of your boons.

If ya just want an easy time grinding trash mobs, then focus on filling ur Divinity bar till ya get 3 '+'s on it by using at-wills (slotting the Divine Fortune passive can help w/ this). Once ya fill up that bar fully, switch to Divinity (blue) mode and spam Chains of Blazing Light (CoBL) in the middle of all the mobs (can turn on 'AoE Targeting Assist' in the general options if ya wanna be lazy w/ the ground targeting). After you've cast divinity-mode CoBL three times, exit Divinity mode (this will happen automatically if ur not using the DO's Brand of the Sun at-will to have partial divinity left over) and just hit CotBL again - it'll do more dmg when empowered 3x, though it will also go on cd like a normal encounter power (you can still use the divinity versions of a power even its normal version is on cd, though, so keep that in mind).
The other 2 encounter power slots can be w/e ya want - at least one should be a heal, though (Bastion of Health, Healing Ward, and/or Divine Glow). You can also keep Sunburst on ur bar if ya ever wanna get some breathing room, and/or to interrupt enemies trying to cast powers or use potions (normal version of it only; the divinity version of Sunburst doesn't knock back).
Ofc, that's not the most optimal thing to do even for solo grinding (that would prob be weaving empowered Break the Spirit or Forgemaster's Flame in there for their buffs), and in groups ur obv gonna be doing very diff things than spamming an AoE dps power. But its just an easy way to solo grind w/ the class before you become more familiar w/ it.
