Spellstorm Renegade with 38% damage bonus from Power and 54% crit chance (142.1% Severity) which would you prefer and why?

Additional 10% Damage bonus,

or

Additional 10% Crit Chance.

Thanks for your thoughts,

Niadain

    That would be a tough call, but I think i would take the 10% damage & count on Chaos Nexus.

    If you have the lostmauth set I'd go for crit hands down. If you don't - well tough call indeed. Personally, I'd still stack crit to 70ish percent. But I'm sure some math guys can tell you what to do :-)

    I am strictly comparing the increases seen from our enchantment slots. Trying to determine if I should change out all my rank 10 Radiants for Azures. Obviously I will be increasing my stats through gear as well, but wanted to get an apples to apples comparison for just the offensive slots.

    Choose not to choose, go for brutals. :)

    I'm with umsche - if you have the cash, go for brutals. They're brutally pricy, though :D On a side note, I went full r8 azures in offense and I'm loving it.

    I'm not sure if any of the below information is actually correct, or even if we truly get 1% damage increase for 400 power, but just felt like playing around. This is with a made up number for base DPS and assuming a very simplistic test scenario of just crit vs non crit.

    88,340 dps output for a given fight
    54% crit chance
    142% crit sev (2.42 * base damage)

    Fight DPS: 88,340=(.54(base dps *2.42))+(.46*base dps)
    50000 = base dps (made up number)
    =================
    + 10% base damage
    (.54(55,000*2.42))+(.46*55,000)
    DPS = 97174 (71874 + 25300)

    =================
    +10% crit
    (.64(50,000*2.42))+(.36*50,000)
    DPS = 95440 (77440 + 18000)

    This of course would not take SS or LM into account.

    I've been replacing radiants with azures.

    So doing this with Brutals, approx 6.5% increase in Damage/Crit Chance for 10 Enchantment slots using Rank 10 Brutals.

    TOUCHE UMSCHE!!! You are correct....In Theory...lol

    If you can go Brutals, I would do it without thinking twice.

    +6.5% damage +6.5% crit
    (.605(53250*2.42)+(.395*53250)
    DPS = 98997.075 (77963.325 + 21033.75)

    Agreed but also agree with your disclaimer:

    "This of course would not take SS or LM into account."

    Not sure how I would go about calculating that.

    Not sure it would really make that big of a difference once at BIS Gear.

    THANKS GUYS (and Gals?)!

    It's also not taking buffs/debuffs into account. I expect they would push the damage increase to the power side, but not certain.

    But you do have to account for it somehow, right?

    My instinct tells me that the extra crit is still more valuable when you account for Storm Spell (and possibly Lostmauth) procs.

    I would agree when gearing up, but like you and many others that have been around here long enough to be close if not at BIS, I am just trying to make a decision on where to go with just the 10 offensive enchant slots. At BIS I am not sure there would be THAT much of a difference in SS Procs. Not even trying to plan on moving to LM until it is confirmed that it wont be nerfed. The amount of RP needed to get my Enchants to 12 requires that I make some kind of decision now as apposed to later so on the surface, I am leaning towards Brutals.

    Brutals are a lot better than anything else
