PVP - Gearing Up?

spuratisspuratis Member Posts: 58 Arc User
I'm just curious as to what methods you guys use or prefer when getting your PVP gear. I just hit 60 yesterday and I'm playing a Hunter with trapper spec. I do OK but up against a well geared enemy player I'm done for.

Do you guys just think buying the first tier gear is a waste? Should I save up some triumph tokens before buying gear or what? I just got one and can buy a piece of that, but feel like saving for the weapon might be the better option.

I'm just looking for peoples opinions on this matter.. I'm torn here. I want to get some tenacity so I can actually stand a fair chance, but at the same time I feel like I should just hold out until I can afford better gear.. it's just that being one shot by Rogues is extremely irritating, my only saving grace from that right now is Fox's Cunning and that can only get you so far, heh.

Go for grim at least. U can farm 1 piece a day. Just get your t1/t2 gear so you can at least do some damage and go from there. Look at your sets and see what you need to gem for and what jewelry to buy. Generally all pvp sets will be missing 1 stat (for mine it was crit, but i'm perma so it don't matter).

You think it's a bad idea to mix sets? Will I get the bonus +450 armor pen from both sets if I just wear 2 of each? I want to have some critical strike with my Ranger but I don't want to lose that at the cost of deflection since I'm a trapper I need to be able to do that short range combat. I'm thinking two combatant and two archer set pieces will be fine if the bonuses stack otherwise I'll just get a complete set.

I guess it all depends on how much you plan on doing PvP, and how much you are able to finish PvE dungeons and get T1/T2 gear.

For me, depending on the day and how long I play, I can easily earn well over 10,000 glory. Because of this, I will be purchasing the lesser set PvP gear that has the most upgrades vs what I currently have, as well as purchase(hopefully)1 Grim piece a day.

Battlefield gear is excellent gear. It used to be the best set for TR's in PvP because of the bonus(which they removed).

I recommend doing the same. Battlefield gear is by far better than any gear any new player has upon reaching lvl 60, it can be earned quickly and it will put you around that 10k GS mark(if I remember right), which will help you considerably in PvP.

Yes bonus's stack. I personally wore 2 armor sets on all my characters for the same reason, the 2 set bonus was worth more to "me" than the 4 set.

That is true, on PC t1/t2 dungeons are easier to get into without being kicked. Glory is easily earned and you get a booster once u hit 60.

The best option before you even consider gear is practicing. Learn your class well and you can ever beat players with high end gear. To do this i think the best way is to do 1v1's at icewind. you can't leanr much in a group fight when you getting cc'd by 5 players but in a 1v1 you can learn the other classes well and better learn your own.

When you do finally do pvp I think the best choices are either just put up with it and grind untill you get the end set although you might have some annoying games or buy the lower set so it will take longer but be less stressful. Or if you do pve you could farm for a strong pve set.

    good luck :)

Icewind doesn't exist on the Xbox yet, at least not that I'm aware of, but I think I'm pretty good with my class. Today out of about 5 matches I've came in first place on the charts twice with about a kill/death ratio pretty decent. That's why I like the Hunter as trapper spec because I can jump in and out of close range and have quick escape mobility with my stealth if I need it as well so I'm a pain to kill, sometimes. I've taken on a few Rogues one on one as well, but the better geared ones just smash me right now. Only classes that I really seem to have trouble with now is Warlocks with a pet and sometimes 2H warriors.. if they land that stun on me I have a hard time living. Rogues are a pain of course but I'm learning how to combat that. I've been playing MMO's since Dark Age of Camelot so I have a decent knowledge of PVP in them just thought I'd ask some questions about gearing up before I spend any glory and I'm happy with the answers so far.

I don't PVE much dungeons on my Hunter right now because I'm hearing too much HAMSTER about people getting voted out. I even got voted out of a Skirmish earlier because I needed and won a blue item that I could actually use. It's really dumb. They kicked me over the guy who was berating everyone in the group and calling them ******s for dying. I don't even want to deal with dungeons right now because nothing is more stressful than waiting for a queue just to be kicked.

    Anyways, Thanks guys. :)

I'm an HR trapper as well, i use the grim gear for now to make getting profound easier. If you use half royal guard and half grim you can get a bonus 900-1000 armor pen.

Keep in mind you don't want more than about 2300-2500 Armor pen. You'll reach the point of diminishing returns at about 2500.

By time I get enough seals, I'll of natural already made enough glory for tier 2 pvp or close to it. I only log my 60 in for dailies now and if I have extra time, then I'll level one of my alts. Usually just pvp, then dragon dailies for campaign

If you're going to have any alts, tier 1 is pointless.

Yeah I'm at around 23-2400 I try to be careful. My main focus is dex and HP which helps when i use tenebrous on my daggers. My power is so high the low crit doesn't even matter. I have around 4900-5000 power on my hr.

I just hit 60 a couple days ago, should I quit buying the first PvP set since there is no set bonus? I have the helmet and chest so far.
