Astral Seal lag???

I've been away for a while and just started up again with my capped DC. I've seen comments in in-game chat stating that astral seal causes lag for your DPS'ers in large groups such as dragon events, etc... Has anyone else encountered comments about this? Is it not really a case, only players on lower end computers, or everyone experiencing it?

I mostly solo except for the events so I love my astral seal, but if it truly does affect a lot of people badly I can trade it out for something else for the events.

Thanks

It's not just astral seal but any ability by any class that procs Burning Guidance. The more players in the area with Burning Guidance being procced, the worse it gets. This is why it is generally only noticeable in Tiamat and at the Heralds. Those who are still blaming Astral Seal are just not realizing that the AS/BG bug that hit when Tiamat first came, has been fixed. Or they don't want to admit that it might be their own Boon causing this. It's a cascading effect that gets worse as the more players with BG gets procced by any ability that procs it, in conjunction with other effect from players, mobs, and even Tiamat and the Heralds themselves.

We're just going to need to wait for a fix from the Devs. I've reported the issue personally.

As has already mentioned, if Astral Seal is truly causing lag then its likely to be Burning Guidance as the underlying cause, since other cleric encounters can also provide heals they can also create this lag. So either one has to play a fairly crippled cleric or turn off Burning Guidance (and how many are going to spend zen to do that ?).

As for whether this is true, its difficult to prove as one cannot run the same groups in Tiamat and thus not conduct controlled experiments to test this. My own anecdotal experience is that I have encountered lag when there were no clerics using astral (I keep my ears open for it) and I have also done Tiamat where I was getting ferocious Burning Guidance and there was no lag. I don't even know if this lag is primarily a server or client side performance issue, I have seen some say that turning down the graphics settings makes things better, but since I have a fairly high spec machine I have encountered lag at random times which I can only guess is a server slow down.

It think these "Astral caused me to fail" comments are just a meme that has now become the standard excuse why their Tiamat party failed, my advice for those that wag their fingers at you, is to politely ask them where their proof is, since nobody can provide it they will mostly stop bothering you, if they persist tell them to shut up and tell them they will be reported for abuse if they continue.

So whats the fix, destroy BG?

    I dont like that either.

There is something wrong and yes, when casting Aseal it causes issue, if its BG, then to me something needs to be done before mod 6, as we will need more healing and using ASeal is a valid way to get it.

UP to tiamat this was never a issue.

Nor do I want BG just to be axed down to nothing and useless.

Thank you both. I'm also wondering if maybe it's a version of DPS Envy I've seen on other mmo's where players are so concerned about their ranking in an event that they don't want you doing anything that may boost your own performance. I looked up BG and by their reasoning even using healing word would bog them down but nobody seems to be pointing fingers at that one.

No one uses healing word or for that matter very little healing . Aseal is on tab and generates a nice amount of divinity for one cast.

However, when Im on my DC I do not use it, nor do I care about rankings per se, being #1 score rank gets you nothing then being #25, so who cares.

HOWEVER, in the new tiamat, we will need healing, and them not fixing BG is going to hurt, they need to figure out, exactly what combination of events is doing that.

My group healing cleric, which is my main cleric (Divine Oracle, Virtuous) uses Healing Word in group content and she heals a great deal with it, especially in the form of HoTs.

I was ONLY talking about tiamat zeb.

I dont mind DC healing anywhere else.

In tiamat, AT the moment healing isnt needed, in fact, focusing on healing vs debuffing is not good for most runs there.

In mod 6 that will change, as dcs will need to be more balanced (though, probably be more then enough Pallys around healing as well)

Ah, yes sorry. In Tiamat I'd run Break the Spirit, Bastion of Health, and Divine Glow as my encounters for her build. If there's another cleric in the group or doing a lot of heals, I might even swap out bastion for Forgemaster's Flame or Chains of Blazing Light. She does puny damage but can buff debuff all while putting HoTs on anyone for when it's needed. Not sure how I'd run my DPS cleric in there though, I don't like playing him so I doubt I'd ever take him in unless I specced him for group healing similar to Daxx, just in AC paragon. Which I'll probably do in M6.

Every Bastion cast is a missed chance to debuff, damage and CC (chains, FF).

Truth. It's generally pretty safe to go full debuff/dps with all the overgeared peeps and cc. Divine Glow is fine. For now.

Frankly, tiamat isnt being done anymore in mod 6 as it currently stands. The most casual will enter and never get it done, it wont even be close for a few weeks.

After they all stop playing, maybe then we can enter on a timer.

and as current stuff stand on test server.. the most casual players will give up in about that time frame. ITs not just Tiamat, DDs wont be doable for most people and dailes are twice as hard as they are now.

Overall if they do not scale down on the crazy damage (800k hits lol, even 150k hps are nothing to this junk) it will be frustating to do any content at all!

Well we did ask for end game content.

I'm more concerned that when they do scale down things a bit (as any long time player already knows, Cryptic likes announcing big controversial changes before slowly tweaking them) we'll end up repeating the whole mod2-mod5 cycle all over again. There's just still too many unknowns atm - level 4 power scaling, proper damage resistance stacking (there's definitely something weird going on with DR), new items/item sets, new stat rules, a new healing/tank class and more focus on the presence of a leader class, etc.

For the record, 800k definitely sounds in line with just how powerful unique attacks should be for end game content. Garakas can hit for 80k+ easy - that's about 3x the "normal" HP of a well-geared character atm, and yet good GFs and tough GWFs can survive that attack rather easily with stacking mitigation buffs. Attacks doing 100k+ are not unheard of. I think the really good GFs (who most people consider useless atm) can safely tank up to somewhere between 4x-5x the HP of a well-geared character with a good DC around.
Assuming they fix DR stacking, and considering the new stat curves and various other mod6 changes, a powerful attack that does 6x the normal HP of a well geared character is theoretically ideal for end game. Tanks would likely survive that if only DR was actually working correctly (or some inherent limitation to DR and mitigation stacking was lifted/changed/explained). I know for a fact that some clerics are still shaking their heads over how Astral Shield + GF block doesn't seem to be working correctly over at preview.
You there. New to the game? Feeling overwhelmed? Maybe you think getting to end-game is impossible for a casual player like yourself, or maybe you just need to be around a community that helps each other stay sane and competitive with the latest news, current trends, random chitchat and most of all LEGIT (that is, we try to keep things fair) gameplay.
