Ok this is probably in another post somewhere, but I couldn't find it so here goes. In the last few week i've been getting blind friend/party invites from toons with names that start with www. . First of all I do not except blind invites from anyone. If you want to friend me you should at least say hello first. Second, is this a severe lack of imagination or some kind of spam/hacking attempt? I don't have a list, as mentioned before I auto refuse blind invites. Can someone clue me in on this?
They are simply spam advertising their AD selling sites.
I'm really ticked that the Devs saw fit to remove the one easy tool that we had to report these folks, by now not being able to right click on their names.

The fix for the right click thing is on the preview server already.
They spam you from the social search list. If you don't expect a friend (who's not on your friend's list) to come in looking for you, you can go into prefs and select visible only to friends. That will stop the spammers inviting you.
But- it may make it hard for people to invite you to teams and such, when you ask them to. If you turn it on, you will have to temporarily turn it off on occasion.
Yes I know it's not a fix and ideally they would come up with a better solution, but they haven't, so...
If this isn't something you want to do, it is simple- don't do it. No silly response is needed. But.. of course, feel free. (That is not addressed at anyone.. but there are always these guys that have to come in and say...)

^All of this.
And also, by using their character names as their nefarious web site URLS they can advertise themselves without getting spam=blocked by the system by actually 'chatting' the URL - but the URL is shown in chat if all they do is burp. It's another attempt to circumvent the anti-spammer t.it-for-tat game they play with the devs.
The sad thing is that they'd just go away if ignorants never actually fell for their ruse. (And I remind people 'ignorant' is not a derogatory term, but a descriptive one).
But they are only limiting zone and trade to a toon that is at least level 15 .
They haven't limited the friend request , or LFG so the spam will only slightly decrease .
They need to find a better solution than that to eliminate the spam completely
Expect more of it. They are going to be limiting zone chat to characters level 15 or higher, next patch. The spammers are going to get creative to get around it.
The next patch should help. They are putting level restrictions on chat. Just a heads up
I have had literally dozens of these requests, as well as PMs, from these bozos. And they have almost ALL been from level 15 TRs in PE.
So if the devs are going to put a character level restriction on it, I think the horse has already bolted from that stable.
And it would be very inconvenient for legitimate people.
It is SO cumbersome to report them via GM Help as you have to copy and paste the message and then copy and paste their handle, whereas before it was just:
Right Click Name
->Report as Spam
I do not think that the devs deliberately removed this function, as that would be daft and short-sighted.
I think that it is just not working since the last patch, because every time there is a new patch, something, somewhere breaks.
They put the potential patch notes up, Spammers read them, quickly level to 15. Problem solved, let the Spam begin!
I keep 'friends only' on at all times. When I do need to group up with someone outside the guild, I'll temporarily turn if off, group, and then back on it goes. As Mywowwow said, it always seems to happen right at the beginning of a boss fight!
I just got so tired of reporting them.
What they really need (has been mentioned before) is a true 'ghosting' system. Log on, invisible to everyone.
They are fixing chat in the next patch so that'll help a lot of folks out.
But the real question is: if you can't type a web address in chat without the Ban threat showing up, how in the blue hell are you able to name your character dubyaX3 blankblankblank dot whatever?

Report as spam is good, but can we take it a bit further/ It must generate a master list somewhere that the devs can check. Run it through a program that finds the ones that have multiple reports (50+?) and fire off a temporary ban. Investigate them for spamming, if they are guilty, permanent ban. Or I'm I making sense? Sorry, didn't mean to.

Well, Well, Well. Good Golly! At The Moment I can't name and shame this spammer. I also get mail from him/her/it
Too late. They've missed the boat. I am already getting spams and fake friend requests from level 15 characters.
This is what ive been saying each and every time someone starts a forum thread about limiting chat options to low level characters. It will do nothing to stop the spam.

A fine idea but ultimately useless in this day and age. Spammers have plenty of ways to get around account and site level bans, there's simply no way to keep them out. The key is to make doing business on NW as unprofitable as possible and that can be a fine line to walk because you don't want to make things too difficult for legitimate players.

Agreed. You have to make it too much work for too little gain, then they'll stop. Take measures to disable their node harvesting bots or force a live person to do that work, strengthen the value of AD overall so that there's less demand for outside sources, that sort of thing.

The forums are not the place to report or discuss such bad behavior or players. Please follow the directions in Rule 3.01 to report bad players and behavior. Thanks!

Frustrating.

Bug that's already fixed. It's on preview and the fix hits Live tomorrow morning.
