    try this ..

    when you say that you expected "reset to defaults" to actually change your arrangement ... you need to then click "LOAD UI" and you will have the original setup


    I only read your post a short way before I set off to find the config file (ui_settings) and didn't realize that you knew about it ... I RAR'd the file so I didn't risk anything (sorta) ...

    so hopefully this will work for you
