After a week of fun, Elo now has ranked my char to the same torment as my other lvl 60 chars - a day of ok play alternated with a day of absolute spanking. Today I had 4 straight matches where the other team (the entire team) was in double digit kills (3 in 20+ kills) and my entire team was in single digit kills. My team gave up in all 4 matches. Last match was the closest and the longest, but my team still gave up when the other team hit 930.
Yesterday, I played in 4 matches where my pug dominated 3 of the 4 matches (blow out scores). Tomorrow I expect to have a "winning" day. and the day after a "losing" day...
I hope the open area PvP will be a better experience than this.
If you have multiple chars you can always leave and continue with another toon. Otherwise spawn camping is the way to go. There are also some tricks around disconnecting to avoid a penalty. I record 10+ wins per day and even on chars that virtually never lose (unless leaving is recorded as one), I just have to wait and will get an easy win eventually.
You should also premade because the current system caters to those as well.
You can throw off the bipolar pattern of elo matches by teaming up with other players intentionally. Coming off a good win streak, team up with at least 1 other player that is on a lose streak but whom you know and who is a decent player. What you wanna avoid, when coming off a winning streak, is teaming with a bunch of players who are also on a winning streak. Full on guild premades can be a problem because you will win a lot and then suddenly you are facing an actually elite premade and you'll get nothing but that until your team loses several matches in a row.
Got this too, whatever the char I pvp-ed with. Pressing "X" after one minute would always show all the reds on five first places, or all the blues. Never a mix. Always two blocks. I thought that with the lot of fresh lvl 60 ppl due to the XP x 2 week-end, they would get evenly distributed in the blue or red teams. Not so.

Worse are the matches where at the end your character is at the very top, followed by all the red characters and then at the bottom, the rest of your team.
