That is a gross misrepresentation. CW's are not OP. They have very high burst damage so they top the paingiver by doing tons of damage against trash mobs. In fact right now they are the most balanced class for PVE.
Since almost all the dungeons are built around endless hoards of adds, CW's are needed. Can you run dungeons without them? Sure, but then taking out the trash is more work - and not in a fun way. A GWF has far better sustained dps than a CW. On a single target encounter even a TR will outdamage a CW. Sadly TR's can't appropriately deal with endless hoards of adds, but that is a game design issue.
Lol you truly believe CW is the most balanced class for pve??? That's probably the worst comment I have read on these forums.. If by balanced you mean make everything easy mode .. And. They have so much burst aoe damage that groups of adds melt in a second or 2.. And that's balanced when every other class can't cc or dps like them? That's balanced
Every one in the game knows CWs are totally OP in pve.. It's no secret.. Everyone knows
I agree the mass of adds in dungeons favor them.. But they should for the CC.. Not there dps.. There aoe dps needs a nerf of at least 50%... That won't impact pvp much at all... Maybe even increase there CC abit to compensate.. But a major aoe dps nerf is needed... And this needs to happen before and buffs to cw pvp... Which no wouldn't complain about
But anyone that thinks that the CW isn't absolutely OP in pve has no idea what they are talking about.. And they need to understand that fixing this is far more important to the devs and the game before improving them in pvp

I haven't seen them say that. If they have, then it is pretty clear that they don't bother playing their own game and further explains why so many classes are broken.
But more importantly it's an undisputed fact. If they run the numbers and take away ALL damage done to trash mobs, comparing comparably equipped and skilled players, a CW won't be in the top 3 for damage.
Lol you are kidding right.!!!
A cw with similar skill/gear will embarrass any other class in the game in pve...
A GWF is the closest.. And they are probably 20% dps behind .. And they don't have CC
The other class's are so far behind it isn't even funny
And yes the devs have already said " cw aoe dps is why out of line with the other classes" and will be addressed in the near future
So this thread inspired me to dust off my CW and give it another go.
I'm owning HRs like crazy with Icy Root. Not necessarily 1v1 (although I have beat them 1v1 and it's not terribly hard), but that unkillable HR dodging like crazy and leading the team around is stopped dead in his tracks with 1 icy root. That sets up the prone machines, or my own CC.
I'm also trying out Steal Time. I've bad mouthed it like crazy on this board but HAMSTER, it's actually really effective. Cancelling it early to cast it again is really cool. I only tried it because I hadn't switched out my PVE skills by accident lol, otherwise I don't think I ever would have tried it.
I actually soloed a GWF and a TR, both of them at full health, thanks chiefly to steal time, some good shards, some good dodges especially when GWF was in unstoppable, and Oppressive force.
They weren't terribly undergeared I don't think either. If the GWF had caught me I'm sure I'd be dead.
If you just read some threads on this board, you'd think this would be impossible to 2v1 the two most dreaded classes in PVP solo as a CW.
1. Fix the Armor Penetration. This is something that is being reported over and over again since beta.
2. Give Control Wizards some control! I don't have to repeat that CWs have less survivability than any other class. CC is our only defense. Then how come GWFs have much longer and more reliable CC (Frontline, Takedown, Roar... all last MUCH longer than CW CC, deal MUCH more damage, have an extreme range for a melee class and a reliability of almost 100 %)? Repel doesn't "repel" most of the time, Shard disappears when we get stunned, Entangling Force sometimes lasts less than half a second. Give Renegades a reliable Repel and Thaumaturges a reliable Shard! Deflected CC encounters should not be affected in the duration of CC.
3. Maybe fix Eye of the Storm, which procs for both CW and the target. Especially for "melee/low range CWs", like myself, this is a pain. An experienced target can actually see the Eye of the Storm proccing and time his rotation to have a 100 % crit chance for it.
Those fixes would not affect PvE that much, or, most likely, not at all. Most powers that do not benefit from Armor Penetration are not used in PvE, except the Dailies. And Singularity does not have a big base damage anyway.
So the GWF didn't have Threatening Rush? Well duh, Swordmaster GWFs are almost as bad as CWs in PVP.
Oh, and try doing it without Shard in Spell Mastery.
Why would I try doing it without Shard in Spell Mastery? You act like I'm cheating or something by having the spell there. It takes more skill to use than anything else in mastery...
No, he had threatening rush. It's not like he really needs it against a slow moving CW anyway.
I actually think Swordmaster GWF would've gotten me because it often seems like you can't dodge all of WMS, unlike knockdown or frontline. I think many will disagree that swordmaster GWFs are "bad" in pvp.
I just managed to keep him CC'ed whenever he wasn't in Unstoppable and dodge whenever he was. The TR was stealthing around and getting caught by steal time and the shard shrapnel.
I was actually pretty shocked I was able to do it.

In any case, I think the only thing CW really needs is for armor penetration to work for all skills, especially now that everyone has so much mitigation. Ice Knife shouldn't be fully mitigated, that's crazy.
Why would I try doing it without Shard in Spell Mastery? You act like I'm cheating or something by having the spell there. It takes more skill to use than anything else in mastery...
Try doing it without Shard in Spell Mastery, because only the elite PVP CWs use Shard in spell mastery. It is never ever needed in PVE. If you want to know what the more typical CW PVP experience is like, don't use Shard in mastery.

That's really not the point..
Should be why aren't other people doing it.. Maybe it's harder to master but that isn't a reason not to learn to use it.. Or a reason to change the balance if someone's skill isn't up to scratch

As I said, Shard in Spell Mastery is ONLY needed in PVP. Since I imagine most CWs in the game have a PVE focus, and maybe only wander in to PVP, then learning what it's like from the *typical* CW point of view might help you to understand the frustration that many CWs have in PVP.
Absolutely not. What sets this game apart is its appeal to D&D fans. CWs are supposed to be frail characters who spend most of their time in the library, not pumping iron. CWs are supposed to be able to trick, stun, confuse, prone, and otherwise immobilize mobs, but not TANK them. They aren't melee fighters and never should be.
Alright then, give them CONTROL, give them defesive skills such as more teleports etc.
Lots of ways to balance CW in PVP. I'm just saying if making them tanky is the only option so be it.
You know what else "never should" happen? Class imbalance. But it happens and I won't mind stretching/shattering the lore in favor of game balance.
for cw to be competitive in pvp as tr he must be able to win 1v1 against any class.
so why would someone play perma tr or gwf if he cant even cap a node against 1 cw.
and why would someone play combat tr when cw has way better burst cc and same survival.
Same reason some people still play CW in high end PVP even though we all know no CW in this server will stand a chance against an elite GWF like Gerftylog or an elite TR like Jerkface.
Lol you are kidding right.!!!

You didn't read my post. If you mean deal tons of damage to the hoards of trash mobs then yes. Take away all that damage and their damage output is not off the charts.
You can't count all that trash damage as that is a broken mechanic of the dungeons. That very same mechanic is what makes a TR almost uselss or at least dead weight for 90% of a dungeon.
Besides, it hardly constitutes "balance" when CWs *must* use one tricky move with one specific encounter, which is never ever used in any other part of the game, to even be viable (not dominating, just viable) in PVP.

Oh so you mean take away 95% of the dungeon that CWs are OP at and you are talking about the 5%.. The boss fight.. At which a CW is still elite at... And in some cases.. Like CN... Are still the most deciding factor....
I'm sorry but that argument has no merit.. The dungeons are what they are.. And CWs are completely OP at it... End of story
I say nerf the tr this is why cw fail in pvp. just my 2 cents and yes nerf the tr. In case it wasnt said nerf the tr
I can agree here too, if GWF and TR get a bit nerf (and they will get in M3) CW will be viable again. With ArP fix they will be ok and vs HR so all will be ok.
So this threat is cool and active but is pointless because we will get soon M3 which one will change enough things.
Here are the issues
Right now CW is in such a God mode In pve.. It's completely overpowered and broken
The devs have already commented on this.. So it's well known
Any fixes to cw like the armor pen will not happen until they have fixed for pve. Yes these fixes are easy but you have to realise that they aren't fixing it on purpose because of the pve situation. Cw can not be buffed in anyway that affects pve.., so I would just accept that cw is the way it is until they can address the pve cw.. After that maybe they will get some pvp love but right now isn't going to happen
Stop bringing this bad argument.
By the way, this here is just a jealous Rank 10 GWF, that cannot beat maybe 10 CWs on the game at DPS, but even that is too much for him. The above guy never PvPs as far as I know, and this is a PvP topic.
Please create your PvE topics with whatever stuff you dislike for CWs and stay out of issues you are not knowledgeable about.
Always a PvE GWF coming and QQing cause they get beaten on Paingiver by a select few CWs in dungeons, as if this is soooooo important.

I can attest to that.
Also, please keep the topic to PVP discussions.
You can have your PVE imbalance discussion in another thread
M3 isnt going to help the CW. Open world PVP is about to happen. The CW is going to be the target for everyones dailies. It will be painful.
I have no idea how it will pan out once everyone gets in there, but i am sure pvp focused guilds will have strats for open world, which may help the cw's with the issues they face in domination. It's basically going to be death match and that takes different approaches. Hopefully they will finish gwf and hr adjustments and move on to cw (which sounds like will be next) and then adjustments can be made for both pvp and pve.
Besides, it hardly constitutes "balance" when CWs *must* use one tricky move with one specific encounter, which is never ever used in any other part of the game, to even be viable (not dominating, just viable) in PVP.
Eh, most classes use different abilities in PVP and PVE. And yes it is tricky, and it can be negated by interupts, but when it works it's one of the best abilities in the game. Does damage comparable to Shocking Execution, has multiple prones and it has AOE potential.
No other skill in the game can prone an entire enemy team and do like 15k total to each of them, or prone a single target twice.

I see my GF being easily controlled by one or two CWs while the rest of the team kills him; in 1v1, I see CWs winning too and other classes losing and vice versa. I am flabbergasted that people keep thinking they are not strong enough, although even one CW is able to chain-control others.
Maybe - like the GFs - the CWs should stop wanting to be the sole heros of PvP and start playing as a team. I remember of a CW grumbling about "God mode for GFs" as he tried to attack my GF and wasted all his control powers; how should the devs solve this? by means of introducing an instant kill button?
At least, I did not have more problems with my CW except those I created myself and this single problem of all other classes: the sole possibility that other classes are also able to win a 1v1.

What level of pvp do you play at? I know most people play casual pvp, but it is obvious as you work your way up the ladder that the only class that really gets easier as you advance is cw.
3. Maybe fix Eye of the Storm, which procs for both CW and the target. Especially for "melee/low range CWs", like myself, this is a pain. An experienced target can actually see the Eye of the Storm proccing and time his rotation to have a 100 % crit chance for it.
Can anyone confirm this? Are you telling me that when Eye of the Storm procs in PvP that my enemy is gaining 100% crit chance just like I am? I would be shocked if this were happening and downright appalled if this were intended. This just moved to the TOP of my list for fixes for CW
As for the topic, I really don't like suggestions that are geared towards changing other classes in order to make the CW more competetive. It's even more frustrating knowing that most of these suggestions come from people who have not played the classes they are speaking on...
There is nothing wrong with Threatening Rush! Leave it alone!
The devs have acknowledged "super-stealth" and plan to address it. Just drop it !
For the love of the gods the GF shield does not need to be made any weaker, that's just an absurd suggestion!
The most compelling suggestions I have found in this thread are the ones that uniquely improve the CW without changing how other classes work. I think we should all be focused on coming up with ideas that only apply to the CW, and ideally, only apply to PvP.

This is different. It is not the same as just swapping out one encounter with another. It is an entirely different way of using the same encounter. It is completely different to how it is used in PVE.
I don't know how to explain it. It would be as if the PVP version of, say, Takedown, only worked at a distance. So your GWF tries to use Takedown on the guy right in front of you, and it doesn't work, because it targeted the guy across the room that you weren't intending to target. But in PVE, Takedown works "normally", i.e., on the mob right in front of you. Do you imagine how confusing that would be? And that if you were pretty much only interested in PVE but decided to wander into PVP every now and then, that it would be a big struggle to try to learn two different ways of trying to do the same thing?

With all respect, stop being lazy and:
- learn Mastery meatball, or
- play another CW style. I'd say after meatball CWs the most successful ones are the guys from EoA with Ray of Enfeeblement in Mastery, Entangle, Chill Strike, Repel, Renegade spec.
You will still not succeed if you come with 25K HP, whatever you choose to do.
The conclusion is that you cannot be good at both PvE and PvP by just switching some pieces of gear, when your spec is thought out for only one side of the game.
You wanna be good at PvP? Spec for it. Same for PvE.
You wanna dabble into PvP with a PvE spec? Good, nobody stops you, but please don't complain if you get killed and you don't perform.
and still get pwned, then you have earned the right to post suggestions and complain. And even then, some people are just not that skilled as others. This is clear in the PvP community where a select few are recognized as great players by pretty much everybody.
What I would like, is to be able to take my 25k HP PVE CW and dabble in PVP, and have a reasonably enjoyable time (NOT "win every match", but just not have it be a humiliating curbstomp every time), and not be paired up with you or against you, or any of the PVP "pros", ever, at all.

This is already perfectly achievable. I'm using a PvE spec CW in PvP and I experience both wins and losses at a pretty even rate, as well as plenty of competitive matches. What you need is PvP gear, and its slightly unreasonable to think you should not need this gear to be able to PvP. My 23k HP PvE spec CW with not a single Defensive stat above 900 transforms into a 32k HP 1.5k Defense Deflect battle-ready PvPer just by swapping into some Grim gear.

If you:
- specced PvP
- geared PvP
- have significant PvP experience
and still get pwned, then you have earned the right to post suggestions and complain. And even then, some people are just not that skilled as others. This is clear in the PvP community where a select few are recognized as great players by pretty much everybody.
