Some basic strategies and tactics everyone should at least know about in PvP...

I didn't see this in the stickies and maybe this topic could or should be. My goal here is to hopefully start a constructive and educational topic lol.

The Fundamentals
First, let's start with the obvious in what it takes to win a PvP match -
Cap a base (it turns solid blue), your team is scoring. A solid red base is scoring for the opposing team. First team to reach 1000 wins. Solid red or solid blue is the only time that either team is scoring which leads to the next point.

Now let's clarify a point about scoring or NOT scoring -
While a base is being contested, it's a mix of red and blue (doesn't matter which combination), it is NOT scoring for either team. And of course, when the match first starts and the base is still white, it is not scoring for either team.

Corollary point about scoring - you don't have to sit a base while the opposing timer bar winds down on that base. It is already scoring once it turned back to the solid blue or the solid red color.

All tactics and strategies should be based off these fundamentals. But, if someone has anything to add to this section, please post it.

Now for the strategies and tactics. This is where I'm looking for input to make this better and more useful to everyone. So, let me start with just this one concept and see what happens :)

Basic Tactics
Backcapping - capture the enemy home base. In the process, you're also contesting it which means it's not scoring.

Intermediate/Advanced? Tactics
Backcapping - Advanced tactic and bonus is if you are fighting 1 or more enemy players while capping it because that's less number of players your team is fighting against. Ideally, if you have 2 or more players fighting against you, then your team has the numerical advantage against the rest of the team on the other bases.

I'll be happy to edit and post your replies to add to this list or if a moderator thinks they should restart this thread as their own and keep it organized, that would be even better :)

Everything you really need to know can be found here. There are multiple guides already established by players from Beta.

According to some TRs on the forums, using Steal Time is a great strategy for a CW to beat perma-TRs 1v1

Pshhhh! No Lantern of Revelation to lure out perma-TRs?

Everyone knows that the lantern will save the CW and confuse perma-TRs in PVP! Every single TR on here said so!

    Incomplete guide is incomplete

Alysin is an old EOA member. He made that last year. It's full of goodies. Some changes since we now have Artifacts, but still very relevant material. Many people have asked for it to be stickied. Never happened.

FYI, I've been playing since beta and I've never seen this post. Thanks for sharing it. And yes, why aren't posts like these stickied or in their own category? Every day I come across what appear to be new players who do not use any of these tactics or have a basic understanding of how to win a PvP match.

I'm gonna contest that. Hard. The extremely long casting time for Steal Time means that a rogue has ample time to set up a dodge, or even just pop Impossible to Catch and shank the animation-locked wizard. I've tried it, and it's a kind of terrible idea to attempt this on a rogue.

Good start. You may want to add:
-some info on personal scores. Tower rush, Tower defender, kills etc.
Not relevant for winning or losing a match, but it does have impact on your personal results.
-Maybe some info on when to backcap and -maybe more importantly- when not to.
-Basic pointers on how to keep an overview on the battle going on around you. The game around you usually matters more than your personal fight.

Can you give an example of when not to backcap?

    - Always try to take the fight away from your own towers and towards the opponents' towers. Do not lead an opponent to your tower or you basically help them take it. Have them follow you away from your towers.

    - When in trouble try to pull opponents towards a party member so you can kill them together. Do not fight alone and try a hero 1v2, 1v3, ...

    - Always try to kill the softest targets first. Do not try to kill a GF at full health when there is a CW with 20% life around. That CW will still do full damage until he is dead and a GF is often a lesser threat and can be killed at last.

    - Always try to suppress the opponent's towers. A red tower means points for your opponent, but standing on it will make it stop counting. Of course should one try to cap the tower and turn it blue, but stopping a red tower for even just a minute can put your team in the lead.

    - Always try to avoid long travels. Do not try to take the tower furthest away from you, when there is one closer you can take.

    - Always try to follow your own instincts. If you want to have fun then do not become somebody else's soldier or even get blamed for not doing something right. It is just a game. Do not let anybody tell you how to play it.

    - Never try to make plans. "All plans fail on contact with the enemy," is an old saying and still remains true.

Just some guidelines of the top of my head. There are more, but everyone should make their own.
    Stay frosty.
