I am trying to refine enchants to the exact amount so that they will stack. I have found though that when it says that I need 20 more points and I put in exactly 20 points and click to refine it that the new enchantment often has some carried over points. This means that the darn enchants wont stack.
Am I missing something about how refining calculates the points?
I honestly wish they would just get rid of the "critical hit" aspect of refining. It makes it hard to calculate exactly how many enchants you need to upgrade it. I'd like to be able to create stackable refined enchants for use as reagents for future upgrades, but alas that is very difficult to do now.

If your refinement crits, you get bonus points and can go over.
Make sure that you know what you are doing with refining so many of the same item at once. You do not need to upgrade items in a linear fashion like you did with the fusion system, so you can feed all of your smallest enchantments into your largest one and skip all the intermediary steps you used to need to do. You don't need to cart around a ton of half-upgraded stuff.

You mean to have them ready to upgrade to the next level quickly, or what? Because you don't want any refinement points in a reagent at all, if possible (barring any unavoidable spillover from upgrading).
The refinement "crits" are great in theory, but with respect to one of the aspects of cleaning up bag space, they are a royal pain. If they would "crit" in 5 point increments then it wouldn't be a problem, but when you end up with some value other than divisible by 5 then you will end up not being able to stack. Then add on the unavailability of blue refining stones, and you end up with lots of bag space taken up because you have already upgraded all your runestones and enchantments to level 5.
Thanks, I was wondering why my enchants were coming out with these odd values. The critical successes I am having are causing me to criticize the whole new refining process.
I just wanted to ensure that I have the enchants and runes that I would need in the future as my alts level. Now with some higher level refining requiring the matching enchant/rune that is to be consumed in the process I was hoping to stock pile some enchants. Particularily Dark Enchants which I tend to use in my utility slots. Each character has probably three utility slots so I need to stock pile quite a few Dark Enchants, but I guess they just are not going to stack.

Do you have your Artifact yet? Because once you get that thing and start leveling up into the Blues, then you won't ever have to worry about having too many Enchants ever again.

as many complaints that are happening concerning bag space and the new system, have you ever wondered if they are equal to or less than the complaints that we see about gold spammers in zone chat? it's not all about just eliminating the spam, it's about eliminating the ability for some of these places to make any profit at all. and to do it in such a way that doesn't penalize honest players may be a difficult task, but honestly, i don't think the new system is impossible or too cumbersome. BoP, unstackable enchants and runestones... it all works for me.

Why would you want a stack of rank 5s? You don't need to use runestones as reagents until rank 7, so get one to rank 7 (the blue Marks of Potency to get it to rank 7 are readily available from the Bazaar, they just aren't commonly found for free), fill it up, get a second to rank 7, use it as reagent to rank up the first, fill up the new rank 8, repeat prior steps to get a second rank 8 to use as reagent... that is the new upgrade paradigm, not upgrading stacks of stacks that eat up inventory space.

I'm leveling up a pair of characters and trying not to twink them, apart from skill kits and healing potions from leadership chests. Both of them have created rank 3 and 4 enchants for their own use. I created more than I need at any given time so I have a choice to direct my stats better when equipping found gear. It's somewhat of a problem for them when things don't stack, especially before they finished Neverdeath. I ran into the problem again with my main, who created two rank 5 Radiants to replace her stock after I've been using the unslot system to better the gear on my various characters. All of this has led me to think that the best change would either be to have non-artifact style refining lose any extra points beyond what's needed for the next rank. Either that or allow a player to manually stack enchants and have them default to the 0 state. Either way, it would be the player's choice whether or not to over refine or to stack and lose the extra points.

I don't understand why some people complain about the new system not freeing up bag space. Previously I would have stacks of level 1-5 enchants and runestones of all types, but now I have just a handful - I am leveling up one enchantment of each type, as well as three runestones. The remaining two runestone types I feed to my artifact. As for the purple marks ... I get far more than I need, so I feed the matching ones to the artifact and sell/trade the rest. I have not yet gotten any blue mark drops - when I need one I buy it at the bazaar (the AH prices are just silly), and as for the green marks and stones - I have no need for them, so (depending on type) I either sell them at the AH, or use them as feed.
I don't understand how people have more than 1 of any particular type of enchant / rune in their bag.
My process:
1. Feed slotted enchants runes, until they reach 7 and are ready to upgrade.
2. Have a matching type in the bag. Start feeding / upgrading it until it reaches 7.
3. Extra / "useless" stones (training runestones, for instance) get dumped in my armor enchant to feed it.
Any enchants I get that are going to be used for rp do not get upgraded. There isn't really a benefit to it based on the numbers I've seen.
Now, I haven't started making r8+ stones, but I will follow a similar process - get one to r7, set it aside, make another one - create an r8. I have one bag that has my "in progress" r6 gems, and marks. That's all the room it takes.

Actually the lowest AH prices for the blue Mark of Power are similar to that in the Bazaar at around 25K.
I think you're confusing power and potency. Marks of Power aren't available in the bazaar and blues go for around 100k on the AH. I believe they do drop from lockboxes though which is probably where the supply is coming from.

Well, you might have more if you are making R8-R10.
Consider the following scenario:
You have a slotted R8 enchant. You start by feeding it all the matching enchants you get, until it is ready to upgrade. At that point you need to make a second R8, and that involves making two R7. First you make one, and once that is ready for upgrade you keep that and start making a second one...but at that time you might have two runes in your bag - one R7 ready for upgrading and one R6 that you are feeding.
Of course, in order to save bag space, you might just mail the "ready to upgrade" one to yourself, so yeah ... there is strictly speaking no need to ever have more than one of each type in your bag - but you might need to keep a second one somewhere.

Yes, sorry - it was whatever one was available in the Bazaar....

This can be annoying on the occasions you describe but are usually helpful

I like the crits. Things fill faster.

Total bag space savings - over 30 slots.

I haven't paid more than 21k for one yet. You just have to luck into finding a batch posted by someone who isn't trying to gouge the public.
