Not sure if this is a latency/lag issue, but I notice from time to time, I know I hit the button fast enough, yet the hit still does damage and isn't blocked. Is this a mechanic I am missing, or is this a latency issue?
I pvp, a lot. So it's my lag vs their lag. Sometimes the windshield, sometimes the bug. Personally I see it as a minor thing that is simply part of playing an MMO. I could whine and complain and blame it for why I failed...
... or I could respawn, follow the CW down there and get revenge. It's all good.
It is called animation time, there is a small delay fater u press ur shift key.
Again, this is not lag, the lag u guys talking about are most likely something in MS, or maybe 0.1s max.
U just have to press it fast enough, more often means ahead of time.

Latency.
This happens in PvP a lot and is very noticeable.
You will cast an encounter and then about 1 second later the player dodges and takes no effect from the encounter. This caused by the delay between you and the player you are facing. On their client they dodged by your client doesn't display the dodge till about 1 second later.
The same goes for location targeted encounters that on your client it shows a hit but the player takes no dmg and is not CC and walks out of the area. These instances are all caused by delay between the 2 players.
A good example is:
Player A - 300 Ping
Player B - 350 Ping
Between them they have a 750 Ping or .75 Second delay. These delays can cause the game cancel out many hits and register as a miss, while on your client the player should be hit.
U can go around/bypass/jump over block. Some spots on the side are also vunrable

immediately after gettign CC'd or proned. You have a 1 second period where you cannot raise your shield.
I usually find It's a combination of network lag, animation lag and graphics lag in any combination. The trick is learning the "tell".
Most (all?) enemies have a windup to one of their big strikes, and there is not always a "red ring of doom", learning which is which, and more importantly when to block/release, is all part of the learning curve.
Having said that, there are some things you just can't block fully, you can stop yourself from being brutally murdered by hitting shift at the right time, but some enemies (like giants for instance) are just too big, and hit too hard, for you to be able to block everything.

there might be a bug, but I generally notice it as lag issues. Too many graphics on screen slows down what I see so I respond too late.
Is this a major issue for you or anyone else? If my lag or latency is bad I think I might not be able to be a viable GF.

This may be what is happening.
