My wife and I both play this game. Between both of our accounts, we've probably got $1000 invested from founders packs to zen purchases. My wifes main is a cleric and I've got a cleric alt.
If this patch goes live "as is" on the 20th, I won't touch the zen store again until its corrected (ie, AS duration returned to normal). They've already hit us with a 40% heal debuff to ourselves, why let them keep nerfing us? With this patch, you wont complete CN or anything higher level / difficulty with less than 2 clerics.
Join us in the Zen Store boycott if the proposed cleric changes go live "as is" on June 20th.
By the patch Cryptic is saying that Clerics shouldn't try to be healbots. That's why they went for improved threat management and better role distribution/placement in queues + dungeon tweaks/AS nerf instead of turning the cleric class into a WoW healer. Which basically means that they value their D&D roots over MMO traditions (essentially they're saying "screw the MMO trinity, D&D forever!" here). I applaud them.
It remains to be seen if the whole thing works as planned, though.
You there. New to the game? Feeling overwhelmed? Maybe you think getting to end-game is impossible for a casual player like yourself, or maybe you just need to be around a community that helps each other stay sane and competitive with the latest news, current trends, random chitchat and most of all LEGIT (that is, we try to keep things fair) gameplay. If you don't mind being around quirky people and the rare occasional drama (one of our prominent TR members is apparently a mafia godfather) join nw_legit_community at http://www.nwlegitcommunity.shivtr.com/forum_threads/2330542.
They don't wat clerics to be healbots, then give us some edge????
No, of course they won't.
Also, why is everyone so obssessed with WoW??. I'm already tired of reading "like in wow", "based in wow", "because in wow", "in wow it is...", "in wow this", "in wow that".
**** wow.
There are a lot of games much more similar to NW than wow. The only thing that's similar to wow are the crappy graphics that seem to be extracted right from my little cousin's fairytale book.

True, D&D clerics have never been healbots.
However, D&D clerics have always been on frontlines, wielding mace and shield, and hitting pretty **** hard.
Clerics in this game aren't healbots, and they also do no damage.
Not sure what function clerics are going to serve at all after the patch.

Not much. From what I read, they will severely nerf DC heal power... and well not buff anything else. My DC prbly won't get used after the patch (if I come back). Luckily, my TR will just loose almost all power in PvP (the game's pretty crappy PvP anyhow) and alot of solo power. Might have to restat. But group PvE should still work fine.

So devoted clerics are not good healers. Not good damage dealers. Not very good defenses. Can't heal themselves. What are we good for? I get why no one likes trinities but why create a useless class if it doesn't benefit anyone.
If what you're saying is correct then my only response is that so far they are failing. There is a trinity here. Still need clerics and tanks and DDs.

Why even wait for the 20th, RIFT goes F2P on the 12th and that's where I plan to go. It is very clear that Cryptic has no idea what they are doing class balance wise, these changes should have never even made it to the test server. If there is one thing that I've learned in over a decade of playing MMO's is if you're waiting for a class balance patch it's time to find a new MMO because it can take over a year for devs to fix even the most blatant imbalances. At least RIFT will have 2(?) years of balancing under it's belt and dungeon/raid design that is just tossing out more adds that do more damage than the actual boss.
I get why no one likes trinities but why create a useless class if it doesn't benefit anyone.
I honestly think most people want this, regardless of what they say. Most people that play a DPS class... just want to DPS, and that's it. Most people that play healers, just want to be good at healing, that's it. Same with tanks. I love the trinity because I love being a main healer... I honestly don't know why people hate on the trinity.

Pretty much, I hate seeing mmorpgs becoming mmo-action games with little to no role play elements and the butchering of the trinity over the past few years. I am starting to turn more towards RTS games now, as they are enjoyable for me and the past few mmos that have come out have been rather unappealing to me with the removal of healing classes and tank classes in general.
Not gonna kick up a poo storm about it and sulk, will just have to face the fact that the games I've been playing since I was little are no longer in production and there is no place for healers or tanks anymore, all that is wanted is dps. I find it a shame as they said a great many times that this game would support the trinity if you wanted to play that way, but it has not since before launch in any shape or form. I am glad about the astral shield changes, I really am. However I was hoping they would in return for the significant reduction to healing and mitigation out put, increase out actual healing skills.
Because it is not only the DR we are losing from astrals reduced duration, but also the amount of healing from it due to the lower up-time. The content is still doable, but I wish to play a healer and my friends wish to play tanks so we have no place in this new platform.
Lucky there are a good few games coming out that I can enjoy with friends, even if it is not the type of game we want to settle in for the next 2-5 years, Rome 2 is looking great, Folk tale is fantastic and War for the over-world is good fun too.

Don't let it gather dust. Make it pray 3 times a day to gather AD!!! Clerics should pray to the Gods, it's what they're good for. Remember: You would do well to seek the favor of the Gods.
I would do that if i hadn't uninstalled NW on a ragequit. Now i'd religiously pray every day while testing stuff on the test shard to see firsthand how hard did the nerfhammer hit us but i'm lazy to go through all the patching it'd need to be up to date.
If you don't know what you're doing, stop trying to demolish the "trinity" or trying to force us to stop "healbotting", it's going to happen regardless of what you do, straight up nerfing healing output isn't going to magically make us want to start DPS'ing, that's f*cking useless, if anything it will mean we have even LESS opportunity TO dps.
First of all, the Virtuous feat tree should be our "hybrid" tree, give it feats (that don't suck) that involve healing from dmg, such as Repurpose Soul type feats.
I'll take WoW healbotting over this trash any day.
Atleast with WoW healbotting, healing is active, fun, and you have interesting abilities to do it with.
Here you just lay down skills on the ground that literally do your job for you, so you get to stand around auto attacking with an at will, how is that fun? At all? This is assuming threat is completely fixed btw.
So either we'll end up standing around auto attacking, or running around in circles tanking 50 mobs again.
Wow fanboy, healing in wow isn't either active nor fun. Go and find a real active healing class in the many mmos out there, play it and then come back.
Please.

Yes, it was one of the reasons I didn't stay playing GW2. It was fun while it lasted but everything was still so chaotic.
People hate trinities because they hate having to need and wait for a tank and/or healer. There are not many willing to do the job, so there are little to go around. I think also the problem lies in there are only being one type of tank and one type of healer but lots of DD classes. One of the reasons I wanted to play NW was because of the many different class types.

In my opinion the best MMO that handled this was Rift.
I preferred the DAoC "Quadrilogy" (?) Tank, DPS, Healer & Crowd Control.
Although I didn't like only being able to fulfill one role, kudos to those games where you can do more than one or even all roles (Rift being a good example of being able to do at least 2 and sometimes 3 roles)

So saying that you invested 1k isn't going to really convince the developpers to do anything, I mean I understand the attempt, you are saying: " ooh look at me i'm a money bag mcgee of a customer I can throw cheese at your company all day i'm a billionaire wuddup punk tricks u better not nerf my my class cuz imma leave yo broke *** done stankin "
but 1k is so little, u won't get any message across... your only option is to convince enough people of your class that it's a terrible change and use your brain to explain why and prove them.... but ya... don't have a brain so gg lol haha ur mitt romney cept ur poor haha

I for one don't like the trinity because I don't like being pigeonholed into being a one trick pony, i.e., regardless of the situation all I have to do is X and thats the only thing I can do since that's the only thing I specc'd for.
There is no point of having different classes if GF is just another code for Tank; TR is DPS; CW is CC; and DC is Heal.
Just rename the classes with their roles and remove any confusion.
Character customization and active combat is why I like DDO so much more than this game. I'm trying out this game mostly because I wanted to see how PvP was going to be implemented in a D&D game. I chose DC since I felt it was more verstile than the other classes and because I assumed it wasn't going to be on top of the PvP food chain and therefore avoid the nerf bat. Unfortunately, I was only correct in the former and not the later.
In DDO, the "trinity" roles can be accomplished with any number of character classes, provided they have the right skills, gear and have the ability to think outside the box. The quests/raids are varied enough that each requires a different approach other than occupy boss/kill adds. And almost any class can be an emergency healer if they have UMD to use heal scrolls (including rogues?!). Even tanking is different from raid to raid and sometimes within different parts of the same raid, requiring different skills and gear so that a particular character that might be good at tanking one part might not be the best option in another.
How on earth do you want to remove the **** trinity if classes are determined by roles?
-Leader
-Striker
-Defender
-Controller
And that's not me making it up, it's NW telling us that in their videos, descriptions and introductions, taken from D&D where every character has its role.
Don't you realise you're not making sense? I'm asking... because you got me confused. You're just making speculations about what the developers want you to do manipulating you to make choices and play in a certain way in a twisted conspiracy involving nonsensicall nerfes and changes.
No.... stop, just stop. there's an easier explanation: It's just incompetent developers doing their jobs badly, horribly, dreadfully.
So face the truth and stop hiding behind those twisted consipracy theories.
In my opinion the best MMO that handled this was Rift.
Cleric and Mage Healz....say whaaaaaat.
I agree. I played a Cleric in RIFT. Best class system hands down. And Cleric was fun as hell, could swap to tanking, DPSing, or healing builds in just moments. I played mostly a dedicated tank healer, it was very very fun for just pure healing, so many skills to choose from. I sometimes miss RIFT. I quit only because I couldn't dedicate that much time to raiding anymore, and I am not much of a casual player :P

I guess you haven't played DDO.
Dungeons and Dragons Online. If you did, you'd realize which game was a lot closer to D&D and open your eyes about not pigeonholing characters simply based on class.
Btw, I didn't see in your list of roles, "Healer" so that would actually explain a whole lot.
Like I said, just rename the character classes to the so called role.
If it was simply called "Leader" instead of "Cleric" there'd be a lot less angst.
It is a tough nut to crack indeed, I also liked the idea of the cleric from DnD that he can heal and do damage
I mean the most persuasive way to get someone into your religion is either healing people or shear force. So the ideal cleric could do both
thats what I like about Astral seal and sunburst, they are not the highest damage abilities but they also give nice healing to make up for it. it makes the game more active, but as it is now I would also prefer the trinity system because that would mean you have something your good at, atm clerics can be oneshotted by rogue and 2 shotted by wizard. I sure as hell would prefer "WoW style" as someone mentioned, where I could atleast heal myself until someone from my team came along. Although both damaging him slowly and healing resulting in a solo kill would be sweet. As it is now if I am rushed by a rogue with 25% health left I am lucky if I get him to 22% before I am dead.
So in short give us something we excel at before doing anything els hopefully that would be healing
the more versatile role could be forfilled by making new spells like sunburst and buffing that one.

AS wasn't intended to have it's duration increased per rank, so it is going back to "Normal". 66% uptime on AS isn't bad. You can still run 2 Clerics for 100% uptime on AS by alternating casts.
Everyone is a little peeved about the changes to DC, but we have plenty of players testing things out on the Preview Shard.

Like I said, just rename the character classes to the so called role.
If it was simply called "Leader" instead of "Cleric" there'd be a lot less angst.
