Is something going to be done about loot rules?

Kinda sucks to have nearly everyone NEEDING on unidentified greens and the most suckiest of Sucks -> having that Blue item that FINALLY drops for you being needed and won by some ******bag that can't even use it :(

Is there something in Development to fix the loot distribution?? Anyone know?

Yes, they're working on a "fix." Which will make loot distribution unfair, but at least all the whiners will be happy.
"Participation in PVP-related activities is so low on an hourly, daily, weekly, and monthly basis that we could in fact just completely take it out of STO and it would not impact the overall number of people [who] log in to the game and play in any significant way." -Gozer, Cryptic PvP Dev

ALL loot is BOE so why are you whining?

The recipient can sell it, get AD's and buy what he wants. Just see endgame loot in this game as Tokens, not player specific loot.

Problem solved. Do more dungeons, roll on everything, turn what you get into what you want.

How are the proposed fixes going to make the loot distribution unfair except of cours unfair for the ninjas who keep needing on items they don't need.
SELLING ITEMS ON THE AH IS NOT NEED BUT GREED.
GETTING ITEMS FOR ALT'S, FRIENDS ETC IS NOT NEED.
NEED IS FOR THE CHARACTERS IN THE DUNGEON FOR WHO IT IS A UPGRADE.

So my question to you would be how is the proposed fix unfair.
And by that i mean explain how the fix will make it WORSE then the system is now.
All systems have flaws however that does not mean that if system A has 10 fault and proposed system B has 4 faults that therefore we should not use system B because it still has faults in it.
Sure we would all like system x which has no faults but it is unrealistic to think u can find system x and that it even exists there will always be loopholes unfair distribution etc but again better fix what can be fixed then to keep all the faults active.
They say if you play a Microsoft CD backwards, you hear satanic messages. Thats nothing, cause if you play it forwards, it installs Windows.

Why not? Says who? You see, if you look up the definition of 'need' you will find it says "Require (something) because it is essential or very important" What is judged to be essential or important depends on the person making the judgement. If someone thinks it is important or even essential for them to get a number of AD on the market, then they should press Need. Its not rocket science and complaining because the word does not incorporate your specific view on the morality of item-fetching is a little strange in my book
GETTING ITEMS FOR ALT'S, FRIENDS ETC IS NOT NEED.
Ah, why not. I won't give the definition again but if someone 'needs' and item to give, say, as a present, then maybe they should press need?
NEED IS FOR THE CHARACTERS IN THE DUNGEON FOR WHO IT IS A UPGRADE.
Again who says this? You? If it was only for specific character types then why are we being presented with the option? You think the game designers, despite being able to produce a game of this complexity, don't understand that everyone can lay claim to an item and this constitutes an exploit somehow? It is not an exploit and if someone decides they need an item, they go into the lottery for it the same as everyone else.

So my question to you would be how is the proposed fix unfair.
And by that i mean explain how the fix will make it WORSE then the system is now.
Because if you make it so people can only need specific items, then sometimes they might 'need an item' and can't press the button because people like you are getting angry at loosing a lottery roll.
All systems have flaws however that does not mean that if system A has 10 fault and proposed system B has 4 faults that therefore we should not use system B because it still has faults in it.
Okay, you lost me here. We are trying to establish if a flaw exists not how many there are compared to other games.
Sure we would all like system x which has no faults but it is unrealistic to think u can find system x and that it even exists there will always be loopholes unfair distribution etc but again better fix what can be fixed then to keep all the faults active.

The buttons are perfectly named: Need, Greed, Pass. I seldom need anything personally, but that is because I don't need the items. I have plenty of gold and my purchase came with enough AD's to last quite a while. But, if I lose a Blue to someone because they rolled Need and I rolled Greed, its because he/she needed it and I only wanted it if it was available. End of story.

Best thing to do until they change the loot rolls is everyone roll need on everything. Right now its not about getting what you need in groups, its about just getting something to sell on the AH then buying what you need. Some runs you might get lucky and get mad loots, other times you might get nothing. Run enough dungeons and it will average out.

this has been mentioned and discussed a million times now.
it IS broken, and it needs addressing, if you cant use the item you should either pass or greed. those unwritten rules have been alive since the stone age, most people that play this game are veteran mmo players and should and do know better.

but when u get to lvl 60 (if u are not alreaady) u simply wont need green items so dont worry about it you will be epic geared anyway.

Yup the loot system is a joke. First off rolling on unidentified? Are you kidding? How do you know if you should roll need something if you cant see what it is? What is the point behind this? Roll on everything that drops just because it "could" be an upgrade? Everything that drops in dungeons should be "identified" and BOP. Sure it wont stop ninjas however ninjas can be kicked.

Loot system was designed by someone that knew the concept but has obviously very little current experience of the mmo player mentality. It used to be just the wow hunters but sadly it seems that a large chunk of people think that they need everything regardless of class or knowledge of the item.

Combat looting doesnt help as the need/greed/pass hotkeys are also things that are used in combat. At least in sto the rolls keys are ctrl q, a & z which aren't used half as much in combat.

Boss loot should be locked in a chest or something until that fight is actually over and if they really want to ********* stuff everywhere on a kill then leave that to be the coin.

I will admit to rolling need on greens but only when it's a class specific item that I need to upgrade thanks to the few quest reward ones being utter rubbish for useful stats.

I will also ask people who do it not to when I'm leader and if they insist on the off class rolls then they are sent on their way, even sooner if they come out with some nonsense about them carrying the group and deserve all the gear as payment.

Could you point me in the direction of the "Unfair" fix? I would like to read up on it... I haven't been able to find it.

Oh Yeah... and Whinge Whine Moan Groan!!!!! Decent players don't roll need on stuff they can't use, it's that simple, anyone else is just some greedy self righteous pig that thinks that they are better and/or more deserving then everyone else that plays. Sad to see that common sense, common courtesy and being a decent human being fly out the window when people get to hide behind their keyboard.
