Here is a few things that I would like to bring up as review items that I have seen in the past month of play.
PVP: This is an area that games can either excel in or fall on their face.
The three point capture map is really strange and not very balanced. Once a side gets control it is nearly impossible to gain back traction to come back to a win.
Spawn points. I have seen a few classes that have the ability to transport to one location from another can get up to the other sides spawn points. Here is a way to balance this. Make the fire do damage to the opposite team. This will keep them from getting up there since they will just die shortly.
Team size. If 5 people Queue up and one is not loading, for whatever reason, the system should be able to tell how many of a team are actually on the play field. At this point there are two ways to handle this.
- Drop the player that is not there and allow another to join.
- Make the point gains a ratio of the number of players on the field. So if it is 5 on 3, it is harder for the 5 players to gain points since they have a strong advantage.
When you get a match that is off balance, it would not be fair to have someone that is queued up to join into a 5 on 3 match where the other team is already at 600-200 score. They are already behind and will never catch up, even with that other player. However you could allow the player that is queued up the ability to see the score and number of players Before saying Join, and then if they do not join, they get requeued for a different fight.
The overall point system can work, if the game was always 5 on 5 with character that were originally the same level. Skills and abilities can make or break the combat, not just hit points.
The last point that I would make is the rewards, although this could probably take its own thread, the reward system really is broken.
I have one character that is level 30 Rogue, I do a PvP match and as a reward I get a level 28 Control Wizard item. Lets assume that I did have a Wizard, wouldn't I be playing that character to get gear for that character, and not my Rogue?
For items in a dungeon or quest, sure it can be random, but why with PvP. Maybe give you an option at the end, take more Glory points or the item.
