How to exchange old Well of Dragons Currency

I have 5000 Dragon Hoard Coins (and also other currency). At the Antiquitites Merchant I can buy a box of 10 AD for each Dragon Hoead Coin, so >5000 boxes. But then I would have to open 5000 boxes, which will take hours. So what can I do with it?

    You can donate them to Stronghold coffers.
    You can keep that in your inventory.
    You can open the boxes and it does not take an hour.

    I chose to trade in all of the obsolete currency for all of ten of my toons and it did take hours for all ten. But then again it did speed up my upgrading process as I ran out of AD trying to upgrade enchantments and I was in the middle of waiting a a week or two to afford the blue ones from the AH.

    I have ten the antiquities scholar wont take. Loved the skeleton keys I got but I wish they would take the last ten.

    Just a thought here, but they could have made a 100 box like they did with other campaign currencies. Devs???
