Companion nerf, why so much?

As a paying player, I would appreciate to have some reasoning why things for which I paid A LOT are from one day to another not only nerfed, but completely waste. Take Xuna: what's the reason to go from the best AOE companion to the worst in one day. Simply, why? Cannot you simply balance it out and make it similar to others, instead of destryoing her?
I guess your goal is to make us spend more, but be careful because people may prefer to leave...
