Seriously, who designs your armor? What's with all the weird shoulder pads?
I once read an article on the purpose/mindset behind large shoulderpads in MMOs - it's a pretty common element in this genre. I can't find the piece right now but it was interesting to see the logic behind it.
If you're an animator, you can hide seams between individual limb models and torsos behind a big shoulderpad, or hide animation stretch marks for textured materials that shouldn't be stretching (like why does my chainmail look like it's striped spandex). Maybe that has something to do with it?
