purple question mark combat floater?

Sometimes during combat, often when an enemy is killed, a purple question mark floater will appear. Can anyone tell me what this signifies?

    They were dazed/confused when they died. Usually having to do with a TR in stealth.
    I'm not looking for forgiveness, and I'm way past asking permission. Earth just lost her best defender, so we're here to fight. And if you want to stand in our way, we'll fight you too.

    Aggro target lost. Enemy alerted, in combat stance but lost the aggro target.
