This blog seems to suggest a shift towards even more specialized gear - a push to get people to buy more loadouts, and wards to make enchants to get multiple sets that you switch between as needed?

I don't see it as a trick to get players to buy loadouts, but still I'm not sure where the devs are heading with the explosion on available gear in the last few months.
Dungeon gear that appeared with the key change
Mysterious merchant gear
All the new Chult gear
Why introduce so many new pieces and obsolete them after a few months? After all the bugs and the new Chult gear, will anybody want to summon another MM? Too bad, it was a nice concept.
I might be mistaken, but I think this is the first time they straight-up offer the second-best gear directly in the zen shop. It'll be interesting to see how that affects the dungeons/skirmishes...whether the top guilds just buy it and go back to farming MSVA and ETOS.

I think this is more an answer of the Devs for more variety of gear. This was a gripe of many players in the past that everyone was a cookie cutter of everyone else.
