I'm getting about 1 to 2 lights of simiril per hour and I'm non-stop killing dps class , is there a better way to make use of the companion active bonus? Does it work better in the actual winter festival zone?

Yes, it works better in zone. If you win an event you get 45 lights, you get almost 40% more than that with the companion. I think rounding may be off.
