Well, I have a PS4 Pro, doubt the devs will do anything to take advantage of it, also have two good PCs that can run this at max settings. One is hooked to my 28 inch gaming monitor, the other on this 60inch 4k SUHD t.v im talking to you from right now. Any preferences to PS4 vs PC anyone can tell me?

Second question is, I heard this game is Pay to progress, or Pay to save alot of time, that you can grind everything yourself, but the most powerful players will be the ones who spent upwards of 1000 dollars to get to where they are, or players who grind 6-10 hours a day for an entire year. Is that true? And is this quote I found from another gaming forum also true?

"The thing is. I see articles like this and as a gamer. I think that's all bullHAMSTER or at least can be badly misinterpreted. He's talking about mostly a card game and mentions out the gate who bad you can HAMSTER up an MMO with P2W. You want to see how you HAMSTER up an MMO go take a look at PWE games. Remember how they completely bombed NWN Online? And didn't meet their expected budget projection because they dun HAMSTER up? Well I'll tell you why cause I was there. Game was great. Looked good, played good, great design ideas, game was polished gold. A rival to WoW and any MMO on the market. So I went and maxed a character went to go do end game dungeon and it was hard I was pretty happy. But 3rd run in that end game dungeon. Get one P2W player that enchanted all his/her gear. This person was just terrible, straight up short bus, god awful, full HAMSTER. Stood in the fire, face tanked all the things, completely crapped-the-bed. You couldn't even see the bed anymore. The bed was gone. You just saw mountain of HAMSTER. Spawned by this complete HAMSTER of a player. But you know what? That complete HAMSTER-biscuit sad sorry excuse for a gamer. Single-handedly carried the run. Carried a run with players that've been playing MMOs since Everquest 1. Pushing for server firsts and all that dumb bullHAMSTER lifeless gamers do. But that sin-against-skill player straight up carried everyone.. After that run I F4'ed and immediately uninstalled. If you for a second think going full on P2W doesn't turn your game into a sinking pile of tyrannosaurus dung you're just to stupid to notice you don't have any competent players left. Because why would anyone want to play a game where the difference between winning and losing is just how much money you wired to the producer. "best practices" psh, at least Mr. William Grosso mentions the fact that you can completely HAMSTER up an mmo doing this. Unless it's an MMO with cards because for some screwed up reason anytime you put cards into a game magically all P2W becomes the best thing ever and no one cares anymore. /endrant"

Third question would be, are Paladins still viable tanks? Or they better suited to other roles now?

Thank-you for your time.

Mod edited all the profanity filter circumventions in the quote.

Some of your questions are tricky, but I'll provide my take on it, and others I hope will pitch in. I'm sure some might disagree with me.

1- PC has been there longer. Has access to new content earlier. And most guides are updated for that latest content. The interface is a lot better (from what I've seen), but the number of players apparently does not show a big gap between the platforms. So preference will be up to you. The economy on pc might be easier, but I have no idea.

2- The game could be considered P2W by many, but I would say it's P2W earlier. But that depends on your definition of winning. If you want to be a damage dealer, who is topping The Paingiver charts, then yes. You do P2W earlier. PvP? yup. until you get your gear up, anyone who paid to buy Zen, converted it, and bought everything they need to finalize their build, will do so much earlier than someone who has no intention of paying.

It's a fine line here, but I wouldn't say you need a whole year... a couple of months yes. There are many ways for you to get the AD needed, even enough to convert to Zen, and you certainly don't need to spend "upwards of 1000 dollars" to get there.. that however, depends on your patience and approach to the grind.

As for the quote, it seems the game was all but dead until they brought PS4 (or consoles) into the fray. But I'm not too familiar with the history of the game.

3- Short answer yes. The Tankadin is still very viable. I know many have complained in the forums, but my first Castle Never run was with an incredible Paladin tank. I'm talking mass pulling, maintaining threat, and even standing in the balls of death on Orcus. And surviving his hits. If he can make it work, I see no reason why others can't.

Flavor of the month recently is the Guardian Fighter for tanking, but paladins are still quite viable if you know what you're doing. If you're considering a tank, then you know you've got your work cut out for you. It's a thankless job. I know something about it, I'm a healer turned buffer...

Also, the Healadin seems to be in demand too... and many are doing a great job of it... I'd say if you like the class, and how it plays, pick a role (Tank or healer) and go for it...

Hope this helps, and I'm sure others will have lots to add.

well the game is free so install it on both and see which controller style fits your playstyle better.

as to that rant, to me that came off as haters gonna hate rather than any well balanced critique of the game. he probably was a very low level still and thought he should be higher level. the wording in the tool tip about ilvl fills people with some misguided notions about how well they should be able to survive a dungeon once hitting lvl 70. there are pay to win out there but you can indeed grind it out and it doesn't take a year. I've put very little into this game and am not entirely bis or maxed out but I'm pretty high ilvl. I think it takes some longer because there are some unintuitive parts of levelling. playing the ad exchange is kind of necessary imo. but yah know it's a mmo. grind is part of the landscape. if you spend some time to figure out what you're doing it's not that bad.

and really so what if someone else put a grand or more into the game to get there faster.. so what if someone carries you thru a dungeon.. lol.

for a lot of content op tank is preferred. gf was nerfed and just isn't as good.

the thing about this game to be prepared for is soon or later management of the game will HAMSTER you off. a lot of bad decisions are made in how to handle this game. you either live with it or quit. lol.

Firstly there are inconsistencies in that person's rant. He says a player paid his way to BiS and was terrible but carried the group.

    Some questions with that:
How did he know the player bought his IL?
If the player was terrible how did he carry the group?
Did he die when standing in the red? Logic would say not as he 'carried the group'.
If he knew he could survive the face-tanking, was it poor tactics on his part to do so?
Author says he 'maxed his character' but the PtW player was doing the carrying - well you can only pay your way to BiS (plus some work) so how did the P2W outperform the author who was also supposedly BiS?

A lot of assumptions, a lot of inconsistencies and a lot of swearing. The author sounds like a complete fool and I wouldn't trust a word he says. He just reeks of jealousy and incompetence.

As for Paladins, the new changes haven't arrived on consoles yet. The amount of protection from DP goes from 100% to 60% and BO now applies a shield worth 100% of the OP's HP - when broken it wipes 50% of the OP's normal health.

Pallys will find ways around this but my guess is that they will move away from using it as their primary boss tanking skill. It is fair to say that Pallys will need to be very well geared to survive the likes of Orcus - previously they just needed to keep BO active to survive and didn't have to worry about high DR. There's still a lot of debate but my current thought is they will need to get to 95% DR plus deal very good damage (for temp health) to have no problems with the most difficult bosses.

Since i cant create a new Pst i will post this here hoping that i get a reaction from a dev. So i am playing since day 1 on PS4 and i've been running FBI with my friends in the last weeks well over 30 Times. And i tell you right now this is the most frustrated i have ever been playing a MMO ! Listen to this ! I got 3 Set Pieces from the Dungeon in this time and every Piece is the wrong one with HAMSTER stats that no one needs. Are you serious ? And im not even able to trade it at a Vendor for the opposite item ? This is just insane. 2 of my Friends didnt get any Setitem in the 30+ runs and 1 Friend got all 3. What the f ? I mean serious we all know that the loot tables are pretty HAMSTER in the game right now and you even said that this is true but this just cant be arsed. This is just no fun. So for FBI please at least implement a NPC where we can trade the unrestored Pieces for the Counterpart. Its so frustrating. Not mentioning the Logic behind Underdark Rings. Player A (me) makes mdemo well over 200 times Gold and still has one +4 and one +3 ring and Players B goes first Time in Normal makes it Bronze and gets a +5 ??!?!?!?! Wth is this ? Sorry if im raging a little but this is just nonsense. So many of my Friends are quitting atm because of these Reasons. Also incredible Lag and Rubberbanding. Whats wrong with the Netcode or your Server Location ?!?!? I played online Games which are a lot prettier and they all at least have stable 30 fps. Don't get me wrong i love the Game. I love the World. The Characters. I love to play my Class and many other things but there a few major things i will never understand. So please fix these things or you will lose the last boys from ps4 -.-

In my experience if you don't want to pay (much) roll a DC. If you want to dps you will have to pay. All groups require no less than 3k which will take a very very long time considering refining all your gear, stones, and enchantments. Likely by the time you get there the requirements will just be raised and you will be sol again. Took me 2 days to get a twisted set with a 2.5 DC while my first dps was a tr which I had to retire at 2.7 because I couldn't get a single invite and he has 37 keys. I figured no one wants a TR (understandable actually) so I rolled an HR which is now 2.7 and still can't get one invite after 2 weeks of shouting for mdemo and tiamat. Only want 3k sorry bro.

Your DC can purchase the Twisted set for your DPS. At the trader choose the option for "buy for other classes" or something like that.

  • To bloodshot's point, I totally understand your frustration about trying to get into a group. It took me as a gwf to get my gs up to about 2800 before people started sending me group invites. I find that people who only want 3k gear scores or high ranked bonding runestones are people that want to be carried. I would say form your own group because then you won't be excluded. Also finding a good guild will definitely help. My guild the wrong side of the stronghold is in the house Stargaryen alliance. We truly help each other out regardless of gear score. If you find a guild all about team play I'm sure you'll be able to run all the content you want and/or need. Gear score gives you an idea about a character but it's definitely not the end all to be all unless you just want to be carried through whatever content your running

... I find that people who only want 3k gear scores or high ranked bonding runestones are people that want to be carried. ...

That above all else, irritates me... 2.5s asking for 3K+ group, and people stay even after that...I hate these people. You want to be carried, ask for it.

That being said, I agree finding the right guild and alliance is key. Elitist attitude is not exclusive to this game, it is a sad thing we have to deal with.

As a DC yes, I have an easier time in ilvl requirements, but there are still many who ask for a 3K+ DC for CN... while I meet this requirement, I never accept or reply to these.. scares me, that if they think a 3K DC will perform better than a 2.6-2.8 they are severely misinformed.

In any case, OP, don't feel discouraged. There really is no reason why you can't jump in and give it a go for free, and determine for yourself.
