One and out for me - no more toons based on post 60 play (just fought 2xbosses in "Twin Breezes")

I was having fun until I got the 60+ play. I don't mind the harder missions, but what I am seeing is a rigged game that makes you pay (literally) to win. I have seen bosses that have so much power that the player is taken out in one strike. After doing a revive, a special ability locks the player down and again suffers spikes hits or insta-kills. I am wasting too many resources just trying not to die quickly. I see red zones, try to escape it only to find the boss has immobilized and, as you will guess, an insta-kill requiring another "paid for" revive. Too much imbalance and overpowered bosses that turn challenge into frustration and money-grab. One toon and done for me, unless 70 makes a major difference (currently almost done with grind to 69). Challenge is no fun when the player has all the disadvantages without paying.

You have not reached 70 yet? Well, it depends on whether you actually like to grind, other wise this is not the game for you if you plan to play for free. There are many free player out here that have already reached BiS characters, but of course, it took over a year of grinding. Paying will get you there in less than a few months.

Once you get your boons, dungeons will get significantly easier. Getting an augment companion along with decent gears, will make it even easier. Soon enough you'll find yourself at 4.2k and everything is a piece of cake. But, this will take a very long time and a lot of grinding.

Where are you at? What content are you trying to do? What class are you playing? Not all end game campaigns are equal, some are meant to be harder then others. And the level up scaling sucks, if the game is leveling you up, you will not be as effective as an equally geared level 70. If you are getting murdered while leveled up, its a good chance that you are over reaching.

Level 60 is nothing like 70. And a fresh 70 is just the start. You will need to have an Item level of around 2000+ to really be able to survive in harder areas like Icewind Dale and Well of Dragons.

I only pay for fashion stuff. All my toons can solo anywhere.....cept those silly dungeons. Ya just have to grind it out to get the good gear. Teamup with others if you find yourself constantly getting kick'd in head with an iron boot while laying in the mud. :#

Speaking as someone who doesn't pay for anything I can tell you it is entirely possible to beat bosses etc without needing to pay.

It does take longer to gear up but the thing I've noticed is that those that pay their way to the top lose any sense of challenge or goals and generally leave the game earlier than the FtP players.

BUT you absolutely need to understand the game mechanics and your class, and it's a lot more convoluted than you'd think when you first start playing.

E.g. You should research your class - go to mmominds and see the builds there, but more importantly read what the posters say about the interactions of feats and skills.

Understand how RI (Resistance Ignored) works and where you check it. If you have insufficient RI your attacks will cause much less damage. Low RI is very common with new players.

The same for DR (Damage Reduction), Lifesteal and Deflection. You have to focus on the one that works for your class and get it as high as possible.

There are so many other things you need to understand, such as threat generation, how the different weapon & armor enchantments affect your gameplay etc.

Make a new post in the class forums for your type, say you're almost 70 and ask for advice - as the advice needs to be specific for your class.

over 200 posts and no 70 toon? You need more play time and less forum time. 70 is a different game from below 70

Yeah, the difference between pre-70 gear and 70 gear is literally night and day. Once you get a piece or two of Drowcraft gear (which requires nothing but an investment of a little time to obtain) then you'll find that fight a lot easier.

But yeah....you're leaving out a lot of information that would be vital to helping you out: class, build, what powers you're using and so on.

Without know your class we can't comment. But some classes are badly borked. GWF for example, if you don't run one specific trait setup doing post 60 content is just flat impossible. I've run into such GWF's myself whilst leveling and they're allways asking for help. HR in non-rapper builds are the same unless they've got an upgraded tank companion ATM.

Other classes like protection paladin can just lol through such content. That said the only classes you should have issues dodging with are paladins and guardian fighters, the former though wouldn't be getting one shot like your describing.

That said the quest you mention in your title is the end of the first stage of spinward rise. Even as a F2P you should be at 69 before you start that, and may hit 70 during it, (i fell just short afterwards on my GWF i took through 20 minutes ago, my paladin actually hit 70 during it).

There are many opinions on both sides of the coin and in between. The bottom line is that if one has enough time, they can purchase anything in the game without ever having spent any money on the game at all. There are convenience items and some things in the Zen shop do give some advantages. However, everyone has the ability to earn anything in the game regardless of how much or little money they spend.

Because of the nature of Pay to Win (P2W) threads, such topics and insinuations are not allowed. Please refrain from digressing into P2W commentary, arguments, and insinuations. If you want to discuss the economy of the game, you will need to do so without delving into the realm of P2W.
