This issue is very frustating, I can't stay logged in for more than 15 min. Game breaking, specially after waiting months for an event, and when the time finally comes, you just can't take part in it.
Same problem again tonight. The problem is that server/switch/router/appliance whatever it is... Cryptic owns it apparently and should fix the damn thing already.
@Zebular I am sorry you get the thankless job to be the voice we get updates from but I personally would have been fired a long time ago (not you, the IT folks letting this go) if I had left a situation going over a month long where infrastructure was impacting customers.
Seriously there isn't any excuse to not address the issue or post something new.
Collecting many tracerts that all show the same lag at that IP address isnt going to do much other than stall us into thinking something is really transpiring... we havent seen an update since 10/20 which is over a month of poor service and no updates... and here we go again early evening same problems waves of lag, turning on netgraph shows huge spikes then down to double digit pings, back to 1000ms, back to 80ms, back and forth over and over huge spikes.
The only reason the issue persists is that this thread is only two pages long so in short the priority level is "LOW" to this said "IT Staff."

I left these times on another post about lag.. but this looks relavent as well.. Followed by 2 on different days with significant rubber banding in Tiamat. The last one ended up with over 2mil backed up in netgraph. An additional note on the 2nd one, I had reduced the graphics settings to mins everywhere (looks terrible obviously) in an attempt to see if it alleviated the lag. It didnt, it continued to get worse over the entire fight.

Last I heard which was before the weekend, they were still monitoring it and trying to find out what's happening with it. I assure you, that are not "doing nothing," you're just not privy to what they are doing. So let me further assure you, they are doing something, even if that is investigating, trying things that aren't working, and so on. They are doing something, as players though we're just not seeing results. To say they are doing nothing is just flat out incorrect.

It's clear that it doesn't happen to everyone and even then to those it's happening to, it doesn't happen to them all of the time and not all of them at the same time. I don't know why it is causing Tech so much trouble in figuring it out and/or resolving it, but just myself seeing the varied reports as well as my own sporadic issues with it, I can concede that it does at the very least appear to be an odd issue indeed.
Not sure what is going on, but I tried the original tracert line that was provided in the first post of this thread. Last line of the first tracert says xboxpatchserver. So I tried the patchserver2 that everyone else had in their posts, and it still ends at xboxpatchserver. I play on PC, and both tracert requests led me to the xboxpatchserver. It's been that way since before the game went to the XBOX, that's how the XBOX rumors were fueled just prior to it being announced. The patch server for both PC and XBOX is the same server and it is named xboxpatchserver. The issue here is not at that server but a prior server hop at 198.49.243.253.

That is strange. There are two different names mentioned in the post for the patch server. Before today when I tried tracert it also did not show it as xboxpatchserver. Guess they renamed it recently.

Thank you for giving us an update. I know it probably sounds silly, but even if no headway has been made yet, we appreciate the occasional popping in to say, "Hey, we know you're having trouble, and we're still working on it." It lets us know we're not all talking in an echo chamber.

Every night after 7pm EST, lag goes wild and the server sometimes stops responding. It hasn't been much of a problem until now. At most I had two minutes of the non-responsive server time out, but just now my main character was loading from Protector's Enclave into Icespire Peak zone and during the loading screen, the server is constantly timing out now.... over 500 seconds. I tried twice from the character selection screen now and my character simply won't load into Icewind dale.
Any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.
I may have to wait until tomorrow morning when the server isn't as busy to try to load him again and see if the server will respond. I just hope that I don't find out that he was somehow erased due to a glitch.
I could get over that, but I really like my Scourge.
I'll play another character for now I guess.

I just realized that this may be in the wrong place. I was researching the lag when I posted. Sorry about that. This is the first time I have posted to the NW forums and wasn't certain where to post this.
Update: It took a long time, but the load screen finally loaded through to icespire peak hours and hours later. The loading screens randomly time out very often and just refuse to continue loading but just about an hour ago, my character was in Protector's enclave, not a loading screen but near the scourge quest giver, and it timed out and wouldn't release the character.
After 8 pm every night now, the game is pretty much unplayable.
I really hope this is fixed soon.

Hi! I cant play since the masquerade event started last week due lag, its happen in all my toons, all the week, the lag is so strong that the game became unplayable on top hours. But the point is that i missed completly the masquerada event.. i got only 2 artifacts (and i have 6 toons). I could buy the scarecrow on the ah, but do I have to wait another year to get the artifacts i mised?
please, bring back the masquerade event before the year ends, once you fixed this lag problem
Well, I was playing just fine all day and then as soon as 7:00pM CST I got a server not responding and had to log in with safe mode and it keeps tossing me off. A trace shows the same server losing packets... it's the same time every night that this happens.
An update as to what's been done to try and remedy this would be appreciated. Starting to rage over the Server Not Responding messages.

It is absolutely unplayable for me tonight starting at 7:30pm my time, Eastern. I am getting constant Server Not Responding messages for 15-50 seconds, ruberbanding every couple steps, and now I was just just disconnected and cannot reconnect to the login server. I get stuck on "waiting for response" and "connecting to login server" which ends up with a time out saying "timeout during login" - I get that this disconnect was unrelated but this issue with this IP specifically really needs resolved, it has gone on far too long.

Some people might have missed this so I figured I would post:
a guy on twitter called NeverGodz or something close is claiming to be the mastermind behind several DDOS attacks against Cryptic servers and one is going on right now.
He has attacked the servers multiple times over the past few days seemingly just for the fun of it, he hasn't given a real reason yet.
The attacks are coming from multiple computers and multiple ip addresses (hence DDOS (multiple computers) and not DOS (which is a single computer creating the attack)).
The attacks have brought down our game and Star Trek Online too, star trek is supposedly just a side line casualty with the main focus of the attack being Neverwinter.
Cryptic is working on solving the problem but as of yet have not been able to successfully counter the attacks permanently.

@Zebular I am sorry you get the thankless job to be the voice we get updates from but I personally would have been fired a long time ago (not you, the IT folks letting this go) if I had left a situation going over a month long where infrastructure was impacting customers.
Seriously there isn't any excuse to not address the issue or post something new.
Collecting many tracerts that all show the same lag at that IP address isnt going to do much other than stall us into thinking something is really transpiring... we havent seen an update since 10/20 which is over a month of poor service and no updates... and here we go again early evening same problems waves of lag, turning on netgraph shows huge spikes then down to double digit pings, back to 1000ms, back to 80ms, back and forth over and over huge spikes.
The only reason the issue persists is that this thread is only two pages long so in short the priority level is "LOW" to this said "IT Staff."

Any ideas on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated.

I just realized that this may be in the wrong place. I was researching the lag when I posted. Sorry about that. This is the first time I have posted to the NW forums and wasn't certain where to post this.
Update:
It took a long time, but the load screen finally loaded through to icespire peak hours and hours later.
The loading screens randomly time out very often and just refuse to continue loading but just about an hour ago, my character was in Protector's enclave, not a loading screen but near the scourge quest giver, and it timed out and wouldn't release the character.
After 8 pm every night now, the game is pretty much unplayable.
I really hope this is fixed soon.

I cant play since the masquerade event started last week due lag, its happen in all my toons, all the week, the lag is so strong that the game became unplayable on top hours.
But the point is that i missed completly the masquerada event.. i got only 2 artifacts (and i have 6 toons). I could buy the scarecrow on the ah, but do I have to wait another year to get the artifacts i mised?
please, bring back the masquerade event before the year ends, once you fixed this lag problem
