For those of us that spent $100s of dollars trying to get Dmir Assassin

Seeing that Dmir Assassin is now free, I feel really stupid dropping $210 dollars trying to get it... I know I seen several others that spent way more than I did. However, with that being said, I do want to support the game. I LOVE this game first off, but to not feel completely taken advantage of, I feel a Zen refund would not only be fair, but the right thing to do. I am 99.9% sure others that dropped hundreds on this game would agree. I wish I could give back all the boosters I got from those packs (because I can't use anyways with weekly caps being hit already).

Just thoughts..

  • It's free now what the fck?

O hell yeah i want a zen refund wtf is this bullshit.

I really understand your point I kind of agree with you to some degree.

But actually we knew what we were spending our money on it's gambling. I am personally in with 250 € (295USD)

A refund might be to much to ask for to be fair. As we stil got gear, boosters, spellpages and more. No discussion what we got isn't worth the money we've spent.

Even though I spent the money to support the game not to get an advantage of some kind ( there are no skins to spend money on). As the amount we spent is for sure linked to our accounts some kind of special reward or goodie would be fair. Things other games would handle as "backer rewards".

I don't want to defend them in any way, but let's be realistic.

  • Kinda but the items you get from the pack are totally useless with all the caps going on

people just rolled for the assassin they wouldn't care abaut anything else then that.

there should be some sort of compensation for how mutch zen you have spend.

  • gathor#7427 gathor Posts: 112

Anyway I guess we have to wait and see.

Recently everyone who already had the battlepass got a compensation for them changing 2 skins in there.

So the odds aren't that bad for some kind of compensation.

Still the recent post of yavieydev is a really good sign that Devs are actually listening. Definately a step in the right direction.

I don't know about a full refund. The devs had said that things in the cash shop would be available for free at a later time. Its also NOT free right now; it'll be free in 3 months IF someone does all the daily and weekly battle pass missions.

not really, someone in the forums (or reddit) calculated the xp needed and given and its not possible right now to get to lvl 50, you are locked out of the pass at... i think it was 43,85 or something like that, so you have to buy the premium pass + the bonus levels

  • unolav#4893 unolav Posts: 44

Honestly if thats the case then hitting 35 and buying the premium is 25 bucks so still better than 200+. I’m sure they’ll add something else to boost the battlepass xp tho cause why have the 50+ level rewards for then

  • unolav#4893 unolav Posts: 44

They’re already talking about the battlepass xp so a change might come soon.

  • madmoparmadmopar Posts: 1

You spent money in a beta where you know things are bound to change. Think on that.

  • gathor#7427 gathor Posts: 112

exactly that's also the reason why a refund is way to much to ask for.

I am more than anything else, just happy that everyone can get the class for 10 bucks now.

From the devs perspective adding the class to the battlepass is also a great way to keep up a longtime motivation for playing the game and logging on a dayli base.

I am not complaining by any means.

  • variadainevariadaine Posts: 8

A you complained about dropping the money to try to get it and you had said in other posts you wanted that to change.

B it is a beta. so that means things may change. they heard people and implemented the feedback and now u want a refund. when u knew the possibility it would change.

I had agreed with u in the past i was on the fence about the class in the booster packs but now they listended and ur upset wanting a refund.

i agree with mad and gathor.

  • I dont feel sorry for anyone of you. You spent money on the game got things from opening packs. Its a random and we know its less then .01% to get and you did it anyway......and its a BETA like really come on are you new.

  • I am not saying I think we should get a money refund, I want the money to go towards supporting the game. I had no indication anything was changing when I gambled like a idiot for something that will now be free. With the caps in place, the largest majority of drops from the package are worthless to be honest. I think a Zen refund (not dollars) is absolutely fair. There are folks that spent a lot more than me on something that changed to free. We were not told it was on the table to change btw, just like the first dev stream on twitch, the community dude said NO WIPES!! However, when logging into the game it now states, no PLANNED wipes. After this DMIR Assassin nonsense, the entire value of the product is devalued now that it is going to be a free class to obtain. A Zen refund is absolutely fair. Cryptic gets the money, those of us that threw money at the packs whether that was $5 or $500 dollars, do not feel cheated. It is a simple solution to a sensitive complex problem. No one would have reason to be angry at that point, and Cryptic looks like heroes and not a slimy cash grab company. I am trying to create a level headed way of looking at this, it is not like I am disputing charges... I am speaking purely from a consumer prospective, for a product I payed for that has now been devalued. In the end, all I am pushing for is to still support the company, the game, the devs, but let us spend the Zen on things that still have value.. like classes, cosmetics, etc... it would be fair and morally ethical to refund the Zen to allow us to spend on items that have value and are not given out for free (or the ability to obtain for free)

I doubt they are going to remove the Dimir Assassin from the Booster Pack, but add it as the level 50 Reward for grinding the season pass. Since not everyone will have the time to do that. (Once they get it working that is, lol)

  • variadainevariadaine Posts: 8

i personally dont feel cheated. I put money in knowing it might change based on the feedback weather they said it on not. Things change in beta all the time

  • I spent $400 to get the assassin; I do feel cheated personally.

  • Ok so you order a ps5 before it launched, And it turned into a xbox 360 you're happy with it?

    you're one easy target.

We've been monitoring the responses since we released the information earlier this morning and we understand the frustration from those of you who already purchased the Booster Pack and received the Dimir Assassin class. We are presently in talks on how to best remedy this situation. We'll have more info soon. Thank you for supporting Magic: Legends!

Yes, everyone that spent money on Dimir packs should be refunded. I don't know if you could even test the packs in alpha. I wasn't trying to spend money to test something in alpha. Personally I would like a refund on the small amount I spent to test the damn game to see what the heck was offered. I regret every dollar spent. The "50% off planeswalker bundle". That isn't 50% off that's just something to get people to buy it. Everything from the terrible strap for Dimir, loadout slots, boosts, everything. Basically set it up like a gatcha/p2w PoE.

Personally I would refund anything spent over 3 packs. And give people who spent money on 3 packs to simply get the class now. I think we are owed at least that for getting trapped in a gamble. Also lower the class costs in the Realm! Lower everything so it doesn't feel like I NEED to be paying money to boost my character.

You guys decided that deck building is the entire end game. Turned it into a grind with no climax. Well, you have to make the game feel rewarding or fun enough to grind. Why would I spend $200 dollars to unlock a class and buy things that are end game? If you can pay to progress end game and make it a monetized grind... what's the point of playing. In those games the whole game is playing it to do the same thing while you offer pay to proceed.

And putting the dimir assassin at the top of the season pass is just about as bad. It's a monetized mega grind trapped behind boosts and premium. Unacceptable workaround!

All I can say to this is that I feel wronged.

There have been reviewers that have stated once a company starts charging for stuff that it should no longer be labeling itself as beta. That being said I am kind of on the side of those that spent their money expecting something and now it turning into something else. Since people have spent different amounts maybe put a cap on it and refund the rest. Hopefully something is worked out that leaves the customer feeling satisfied.

    free? where? how? -_-

edit: nvm just saw at lvl 50 battlepass. with the time consuming way to level up the battlepass.. yeah might be tired of the game before you can even get it lol

  • cedricscedrics Posts: 9

They did state early on all classes would be made available through play eventually. So I am not sure what all this betrayal talk is. Lvl 50 on the battle pass is hard if not impossible to get, not only do you get the class early, you don’t have to do every daily/weekly and you will likely get something else at lvl50. 99% of the packs gave you other stuff that you use and enough gold to buy the next three classes if not more assuming you spent a lot. That all said I could see justification for a partial refund or apology bonus, as you likely would have brought less packs had you known. I spent a fair bit my self but I love the change.

and for the people calling it a gotcha game. Putting it in the battle pass for free is the opposites of that. Work to get it or pay for it.

tbh i 100% agree with that, i only purchased packs to gamble for the dimir, if he would not be in the packs i dont had spent 150€ on it. ofc i would have spent some bc i like to support the game, but not this much

  • Same, I would not have gone crazy if Dmir Assassin was not in the equation, and taken a more logical approach to zen purchases.

I disagree. That is like saying that people that lost money at a casino should have their losses refunded because they have an upcoming paycheck.

You got pooned man. You got pooned real bad. But atleast the assassin will be higher level when others are still unlocking it.

  • edited March 2021

Man there is some hardcore rude AF hate toward players who decided to spend money on this game. In the forums, in the discord, it's pretty unreasonable. I've dropped hundreds of dollars on multiple various FTP/In-Game Shop games (FFXIV, WoW, POE, PSO2, Fallout76, etc), if you make a different choice with your money that's your prerogative.

The honest truth is that many of us, like me, spent RL currency to purchase an advertised product that is now free. It doesn't matter if it's beta and things change frequently. What matters is that we who spent made a judgement call on whether the included booster items were worth the cost and then chose to spend. With the assassin now being free/premium, those booster packs now have nothing worth spending the type of money some of us spent. There is no longer an ultimate special drop we can get from them. A very very many of us would not have spent to the degree we did except for that one specific unlock. It's a hardcore bait and switch and reparations need to be made.

I get that you don't want to alienate your dwindling free player base. What I don't get is why in the heck you would choose to instead alienate the people who actually paid to support your game. I spent $500 to get that unlock. I would not have spent $500 if I could have waited a few weeks to get it for free. That's why we have a right to be pissed off. Because we were denied the option of that choice. Because we were promised something special and rare and instead we have a load of unimpressive turds that comprise the remaining booster rewards.

PS- This entire thing feels like a knee-jerk response to hemorrhaging player numbers. You saw big numbers on Tuesday and they've dropped off considerably and you guys panicked. Next time you decide to implement a change like this make sure you have a plan already for the fallout so that you can announce both at once. Even if your entire plan is what yavieydev posted above, "we will address the issue of players who already bought packs at a later time", include it in your change announcement post next time. Don't wait for people to get angry, head it off at the pass. You lose credibility and trust when you dump a turd and then "monitor the response".

Here I can try to explain it like this... Why do I feel wronged? Why?

Because people value what they pay for. It is like winning a stack of chips at the casino, only to find out the chips are worth $0. People pay for premium content services because it’s either A. convenient or B. exclusive. Payed content , whether gambling at a casino, or on a loot box in a game provides value for your money. When the "loot" whether is a chance at a million dollars, winning the lottery, or a Dmir Assassin there is value in that. When the decision was made to make the Assassin available for free, you take the exclusive nature and point of the gamble in the first place awat. What content do you pay for that you could technically get free elsewhere? .... think about it. See.. some of us are willing to pay for content to improve our experience, to have something exclusive (or viewed as value), and support a community we care about. Please note, no where in any of this post or previous post have I stated I want my ACTUAL real money refunded. I WANT to support the game, I LOVE MTG, I am a huge fan. But I want my hard earned money to feel like it was spent on something of value... a chance has value... I saw value in the Dmir Assassin, and if it was kept behind a gambling loot box paywall of exclusivity, I would have never made this post to begin with. It is free now, free with effort if you will. I find that a hard pill to swallow. I will always be a sucker for cosmetics, DLC's, and pay for convenience features when I see value in it. Agree or disagree with me, it does not really matter, we are all human individuals. I still will feel the way I feel.

  • I like your logic Cryo, that's how I feel as well.

It's basically like some hot dude you've been crushing on told you that you were the most beautiful woman he's ever seen...you're like on cloud 9, you think you're special and rare and you feel like a champion. Then the next day you overhear him saying the same GD thing to 10 other chicks and suddenly you're crying yourself to sleep with chocolate ice cream smeared all over your face and blouse.

These devs playing with my emotions hardcore...yesterday I got the assassin and I felt just like that, I AM A GAMER GOD CHAMPION THIS CLASS IS AMAZING. And today I'm like...whelp, might as well uninstall and get out the ice cream and Adell breakup playlist.
