I would use the 3 secondaries, even at 40 if you are interested in a survivability build. The 25% is quite worth it for anything short of cosmics. AFAIK the 25% applies to all damage, not just physical damage, though I could be wrong.

I think you hit the nail on the head here. this is the 'immunity' a lot of people are reporting. its not immunity: its damage overflow. the game can't handle all the attacks on mechanon due to all the plasma beam spam causing attacks to overflow.
The event is bugged right at the end. When everyone is fighting mechanon, most damage players do to him is ignored: I Can only think that its overflowing and the server can't handle it.
Yeah the knock spam is obscene, even minions have it. As for ranged vs melee disparity, I think these and other enemies could have a new class of powers that has a minimum range of lets say, 20ft. Some kind of mortar attack that has a knockdown.
