I'd posted an idea and my reasoning for it in the Champions Online Discussion about Onslaught Villains that pretty much mirrors this. A toggle option that you could check by right-clicking your portrait and selecting would probably work as well, though I feel the solution in the quotes is more immersive and dynamic.

Assuming there is a way to make the coding for it to work, then I have a potential solution to this, although it's more of a long-term solution that might take some time to implement. Likewise, also unable to authenticate. Been busy all of last week, so I was hoping to give the giant Mechanon event a try today before it's over. Hope all is fixed soon.

I -was- having a little more luck with the game, but now I have a character that's stuck in place just a few feet away from the middle of the convention. I can't even turn my quests in to the mayor after going all over the city and being able to do those earlier today. Restarting doesn't fix the problem at all now. :/

My 5th bag slot was gone, which had the veteran bag. I don't remember what all was in it, but I'm hoping that it can be retrieved. I only had time to check out a few things before servers were being brought down. Glow Tights were showing up, but I couldn't see/find any Avian costume pieces.
