Thanks for the encouragement, Kyastral. Giving up is not an easy decision. As noted in my first post, I cannot afford 3 lifetime subs (me, my wife, my daughter). I also cannot afford to unlock my 54 freeforms. 7 of my 13 ATs will also be locked behind a paywall. This doesn't include my family's characters on their…
No go. We are going to lose our subs. We might play some of our ATs on occasion, but no more money will go into Champions. This really hurts longtime customers, especially when it is caused by something out of our control.
I've sent back a response (a polite one :)) for clarification. If it is still a no go, I'll either open a new ticket and hope a different person looks at it or see if there is a way to escalate. I miss being able to talk to real people on the phone instead of playing email tag.
Well, I got a response from PW. They apparently cannot let me update CC info for subs that are no longer being offered. So because of a data breach at some merchant and PW's decision, my wife, daughter, and I will lose our quarterly subs. I cannot afford to buy three lifetime accounts, and there is no way I can pay to…
That's what Cryptic said when they ran City of Heroes as well. After Paragon Studios took over, we got water powers. Perhaps this iteration of Cryptic's engine can't do it, I don't know. But CoH eventually got a number of things we were told could not be done. That said, this is a different game. I enjoy it quite a bit,…
I take it the code doesn't actually do anything until the Anniversary event begins? I successfully redeemed the code, but received nothing when I logged in.
Not being a fan of pvp--especially open world where we have no choice--how will AoEs affect this? If I am fighting a gang in the street and fire off an AoE, will that tag a passing Villain player and plunge me into pvp that I don't want to participate in? I can see having fun with this on occasion--even running a Villain…
Solved. I checked the properties on the Champions Online Launcher and ran a compatibility test. As far as I could see, it didn't change any settings (was already set to Windows 8 and remained set to Windows 8), but the game worked after running the test.
Thanks for the tip, unfortunately it didn't work for me. I'm getting the same error you were. When I verify the integrity through Steam, it says that two files would not validate and it would reacquire them. Afterward, when I verify the integrity, it says it worked. When I lauch the game, it tries to connect to the…
CoH added some amazing new powersets (with more in beta), some great new story content, and thought they were doing just fine. They were actively developing their game. The dev team -- including management -- were as shocked as anyone else when the hammer fell. Even NCSoft indicated the game was doing all right, it just…
Agreed. There was no "semantics war" in my post, just a comparative note with an example. The OP seemed to be asking whether a simpler UGC tool could be set up if Foundry is too complex to add to CO. While I would truly love to see a UGC tool in CO, I don't know that CO brings in enough revenue to make the dev time…
I love combat, but I want an interesting story to go with it. Now, I don't necessarily need a big story for each step of the mission, but I do want it to feel like more than just running around the landscape killing the same thugs over and over again. That was something I liked in the Mission Architect in CoH; you could…
No, the search function in MA was much better and made it easier to find actual missions, not just powerleveling grinders. It had multiple search options to narrow the focus of your search. Even if you just used the "next 50" link, you could at least keep surfing through available missions until you found something. That…
I think what the OP was thinking was more like CoH's Mission Architect. Yes, you could do the things listed above, but the maps were all preset maps too. There was a very broad selection of maps from the various missions in the game, both outdoor and indoor, but there was no map editor. You could select clickable items and…
Then there is no point for you. And that's fine. For others, it provides a source for exercising our imaginations, developing characters and backstories, and just having creative fun. Quantity does not preclude quality in the least in this instance.
We have a winner! As a writer, I enjoy character creation and development almost as much as playing them. Also, I'm in no rush to max out any character, so that leaves more room for the imagination. I have characters ranging from level 8 to level 35 and will be buying more slots soon. With so many costume and…
How about they do like STO and release both? In STO, there are cool new ships released via lockboxes AND cool new ships released in the C-Store. STO still releases ships and *costumes* to the C-store. It's not either/or over there. They have added vehicles to the store, not to discount that. But what about new costume sets…
Note what else I said: If there are good customization options up front, with more available through the store, it works. I have purchased many of the costume packs, a few travel powers, and a bunch of character slots. This is okay, but motivated by the fact that I could create good, custom characters from the get-go. That…
That would be a good way to lose me as a customer. I'd pay for a yearly expansion. I won't be "forced" to nickle and dime myself to death for character customization. I will buy new costumes and such if I like them, but if there is not a truckload of good, solid customization up front (like we have now), I would not…
This is one opinion I can't understand. I don't need new art assets to tell new stories in new ways. In STO, I see so many fantastic assets that appear in one dev mission and are never seen again. There is no reason not to reuse existing assets -- perhaps in different combinations, perhaps not, depending on the story being…
Look at it from another perspective: My wife, daughter, and came to Champions when the plug was pulled on CoH. Everything here is NEW for us (well, most for me; I was a CO beta tester). While in many ways it falls short of CoH for us (especially considering the sheer volume of story/mission content CoH had in comparison),…
If I were interested in console-like controller combat, I might have considered playing DCUO instead of CO (there were other things that turned me off on DCUO, but combat was at the top of the list). I've never been fond of "fighter" style combat. So it looks like NWO is not likely to catch my interest. Pity. I was looking…
I beta tested DCUO and have not looked back. The one thing I DID like was the wall-climbing travel power (acrobatics, I think). That was the most hilariously fun travel power I've experienced.
This. My wife and I would both pick up grav bikes off the store, but we will not buy lockbox keys. It's tough to create a character with a concept in mind when you don't know if you will be able to get the vehicle you want for your character. Hoping for a lucky drop doesn't cut it.
I have no problem with reused environments, if it means we get more story content to go with. We do need a wide variety of environments to keep things visually interesting, but I think one of the biggest mistakes some MMO companies make is thinking that they need new environments every time they create new content. It can…
And yet again, many of us spent a lot of time in the MA writing and playing a plethora of good, solid, fun story content -- despite the junk that ended up there as well. One thing more annoying and destructive than the exploiters is those who declare UGC a failure and want to eliminate it for everyone, just to spite the…
And yet players like me enjoy playing story missions in the Foundry. The only issue I have with it at all is the grinder missions filling the search screen making it harder to find real missions. I offered a temporary help by mentioning that CoH MA authors began creating their own "tags" to add to their missions to make…
Whereas when I was beta testing CO and my wife was playing CoH on her PC right next to me, my eyes kept getting drawn back to CoH. Graphical tastes vary. Note before I make a couple of criticisms below that I am enjoying CO right now. But noting impressions -- constructively -- is okay and sometimes useful to the devs. The…
That right there is a biggie with regard to CoH vs. CO for me, for a couple of reasons. First, for the life of the CoH game, I had 11 servers, initially with 8 character slots per server, then 12 as I bought expansions, etc. I had over 100 characters in CoH. As a subscriber in CO, I get 8. I can purchase more, but they are…
Personally, I don't think MA hurt CoH much at all. There was a thriving MA story arc community (not including those who abused the system as you noted). MA was a tremendous addition from my perspective. Opinions, of course, vary. Be that as it may, the way Foundry works and the way MA works are two different…
Being related to a content designer for another MMO, I can tell you that a lot of MMO devs are just as passionate -- if not more so -- than most of the playerbase. Many are very active players in their respective games. It gives them even more incentive to make it fun. Of course, there are also those for whom it is…
It is an actual bug/glitch. My wife, daughter, and I all had this happen to us. The character creator listed costumes parts we had not purchased as available (different ones for each of us), but since we were new subscribers, we didn't realize it. When we entered the game (yes, it let us go all they way through character…
That's why somebody else earlier in this thread pointed out the Neverwinter dev noting that leveling through user content there will be viable. We're hoping that concept and toolset will be migrated here (and STO).
Funny, I thought the mission architect revitalized the game and had a thriving MA story arc community. I enjoyed it immensely and never had problems finding real story missions (I refused to play "farm" missions). The fact that a lot of players abused the system and others just didn't care for it does not make it a failure…
I enjoy the Foundry in STO immensely. I even have a couple of characters that I am leveling exclusively through the Foundry. It's slow as mud, but on the bright side, it means I'll get to enjoy my Connie and Oberth ships for a while before outleveling them. I would certainly support the addition of the Foundry to…
Calm down. I thought my post was fairly straightforward, not "up in arms." My apologies if it came across as more than that. It's mildly gruesome to look at and doesn't make much sense in general. I've been playing for one month (as of today) and have never seen the affect before. I liked the idea that this game is…
Perhaps you could look at it this way: Those paying $200 right now are giving an influx of money to STO, which could be invested in producing more content for those of us who have been there longest. I'm an STO beta tester, preorder customer, and lifetimer myself and have no problem at all with this promotion.
Not only that, but has been mentioned a number of times on the STO forums, paying a monthly fee or LTS does not guarantee that that individual has actually *played* all that time. In other words, just having a sub does not mean such rewards are earned by investing played time in the game, just given for investing money for…
I tend to view them a lot like enhancements in CoH. I really don't look at them like new clothes -- and I'm greatful that I do not have costume changes forced on my be "gear."
The current slider system is *infinitely* better than it was back in beta, to be sure. We can make far better looking faces than we used to. But they are still fairly caricatured in style by design. Sliders give us more flexibility for certain.
Those "rubber-stamped" faces from CoH have character, personality, and look nice. The "rubber mask" faces of CO are the weakest point of character creation. My wife has little to no interest in CO in part because of the faces in comparison to CoH. She likes the fact that her CoH characters can be pretty; the best she can…
