Not sure what, if any, difference this will make, but apparently this happened. So yeah!

from what I remember of other articles, this is the original owner.
Cayman islands is a tax haven.
    here's the article that article is from;
    Washington post

Perfect World, which has gained this year since Chi first proposed the deal in January, is going private amid shrinking profits. Its users are switching to lower-margin mobile games instead of more lucrative personal computer versions.

I found in a chinese(english language) paper about the switching from PC to mobile emphasis.
someone with time can hunt for that.

I've worked in an investment bank as well as an Asian game company. I've had time to think more about this.

EDIT - I just had dinner with someone much wiser than me. My analysis was agreeable, my conclusion was not. I'm simplifying this post as this is worth knowing, as not to over-react, or at least to over-react on the right things.

    1. Delisting from the U.S. stock market can be a great cost-savings

    - PW is delisting, so it'll be privately owned by the Chairman or maybe a small group of investors
    - Konami also delisted from NYSE, savings estimated to be US$5-10 million
    - Delisting also allows you to do other things, like restructuring your company more freely, relisting somewhere else
    - In CO-terms it's like using a Retcon Token to get all your powers (i.e. stocks here) back, so you can do a new build

    2. The Cayman Islands are indeed another cost-saving measure as a tax haven

    - PW's Chairman has created a holding company, through which he'll complete this deal to delist
    - There are no direct taxes on corporate profits, etc., but companies don't move there for operational
    - You'd set up an entity, like making up a holdings company, there to allow you to restructure your company
    - In CO-terms, you can think of the Cayman Islands like the PTS, it gives you great freedom to try things

    3. Buybacks are a sign of confidence in one's company and now is a great time to do it

    - The PW Chairman publicly and properly announced he was doing this in Jan, now it's coming to fruition
    - And assuming you have total ownership, you can again more freely restructure without putting stuff up for a vote
    - In CO-terms, it's like converting Questionite to Zen when Zen is cheap, to buy a Retcon Token with

    4. ...and finally, PW may be going private, just so they can go public again

    - The Shanghai-Hong Kong stock exchange is a new thing, Chinese tech stocks trade for much higher than in U.S.
    - And in the meantime...the Chinese finance market is creating a new, simpler system to be listed
    - In CO-terms...I can't think of a good analogy, but it's like you're moving to a market where people value you more

    ---

TL;DR - Please be mentally prepared for further restructuring. The layoffs, the moving of CO's development duties back to Los Gatos, we thought that was the end. IMHO, and I may be wrong, that while that is the end of one thing, it's meant to be the start of something new.

But it is impossible to speculate if PW will sell off its American-based assets, like Cryptic, or its other studios. It's not worth worrying about; that that shall be shall be. But that is certainly a possibility. IMHO, I'm cautiously optimistic.

Well, Finn, Tiger's got knowledge of the field; all we've got is gut feelings. And in my experience, the only time gut feelings are reliable is when your gut's telling you to get to the bathroom before you ruin the couch. So...

Privatizing a company allows the company to focus on what's best for the products that it makes and develops, rather than the pockets of those who invest in it. If the private owner(s) think that they will profit more by advancing the unassuming parts of the company (IE Champions Online) they can do that without worrying about the loss of investor interest.

Now instead of trying to convince the penny pincher who is more interested in pleasing the share holders instead of the customers to do something for Champions, we can get the chance to convince the people in charge because they won't have to answer to anyone. They'll work for what is best for the customers and overall the company itself.

I just thought of something, but I'm a lot less confident about this.

It is possible that PW sells Cryptic to another publisher, as a consequence to this delisting. And its other American assets, the other studios, in fact. I'm very unsure about this, as if anything, PW is proud of Cryptic with Neverwinter on Xbox.

Like for example, consolidating all the forums onto Arc, if I understand it. Yeah, I dunno.

Hi all, just had dinner with someone much savvier at the top levels of corporate strategy.

I've learned stuff and changed my post on the 1st page. Bottom line - don't be shocked by further restructuring, let the pieces fall where they may.
