Is Dr. Destroy not that bright?

jediavatarjediavatar Posts: 22 Arc User
So doing Nem Com . . . :\ Seriously? . . .

Ok, so let me get this straight;

One nemesis can't defeat one hero by themselves, so Dr. Destroyer bust them out of prison saying he's putting together "a league of destruction".

He gets five super villains together. Cool, so this is like the Sinister Six.

. . .

So he gets five villains . . . and has each one by themselves battle five heroes simultaneously . . . :\ . . . Seriously? . . .

Yo, Dr. Destroyer, wouldn't it make more sense to force each hero to by themselves battle five villains simultaneously? . . .

And if you want to go farther, when you finally face him, and he sends his minions to attack you via portal, he only sends one at a time.

This is like in Sonic the Hedgehog 1 (1991) Final Zone; 300 IQ, Robotnik never considers, oh I don't know, sending down all four crushing pods at once, double the chances of crushing Sonic, maybe even quadruple the chances as he could get stuck in between two rising pods before being crushed by a falling pod.

    1) Using logic in a MMO is a fool's errand. While yes it would make a lot more sense to have 5 baddies attack at once, in this game, at their difficulty, it would pretty much be a slaughter. Which would lead to massive complaints.

    2) It is a fun mission so back off :P

    3) It is Shadow Destroyer, not Dr. Destroyer. Play Resistance for more info.

While bwdares has a point, in that what makes for a fun and challenging encounter for PCs in a MMORPG often makes for poor "real-world" logic; if it makes you more comfortable, you can think of this as part of a broader scheme by Destroyer. Perhaps he wants to test these heroes' capabilities, preparatory to taking them on in earnest later. Or he could just be keeping them occupied, diverting their attention away from his true objectives. Both would be in keeping for the schemes of master villains.

Master strategist as Doc is, he just makes others (heroes) take out the possible competition (villains).
And to keep heroes busy and out of his way and away from his master plan.

    But James Harmon III isn't....

Don't forget to always play missions on Elite difficulty, too.
That's the only way they are remotely challenging. . . until you optimize your build and get top-tier gear.

Shadow Destroyer has blind spots in his thinking that you could hide entire UNTIL platoons in. Maybe he thinks Conservation of Ninjutsu is a real thing, and by sending his mooks in one at a time against several heroes, they'll be stronger? "Magical thinking" can be dangerous...

That's an interesting tack to think on, Jon. It actually applies to the Tournament of the Dragon in the CU. There are genuine metaphysical advantages to fighting the manifestation of the Dragon with a single martial-arts champion.

I'm going to go with the idea that Shadow D is performing some sort of heinous magical ritual and just needed 5 "allies" to sacrifice. Probably to power those crazy orbs that regenerate his health.

Well, if you're fighting a magical being, Magical Thinking can actually make sense. That might be where Shadow Destroyer gets the idea; after all his dealings with the Qliphothic, he's starting to believe the principle applies to superheroes too.

So Shadow D is attempting a Xanatos Gambit: If the nemeses defeat the heroes, problem solved, and he could watch it all from his throne. If not, their defeat empowers Shadow D to do it himself. Only problem is, he's not that good at the "do it himself" part.
Choose your enemies carefully, because they will define you / Make them interesting, because in some ways they will mind you
They're not there in the beginning, but when your story ends / Gonna last with you longer than your friends

None of the bad guys in the game are particularly bright. Look at these guys who keep trying to rob banks and they keep showing up in the exact same numbers using the exact same gear/powers/tactics they were using last time they got completely steam rolled.

How's that "stand in the middle of M-City with some machine that summons weak pathetic worms while 5 heroes shoot your face while you run up and down some stairs" plan working out?

Did you know that your mystical pyramid thing is also empowering the heroes you're fighting?

And why does your nemesis keep sending his worst and weakest to ambush you while they're holding information that leads you directly to your nemesis' latest caper?

Has any villain in the CO online world ever had a good idea? Nope. For the most part their planning consists of "I'm gonna go here and try to steal a thing, I doubt any super heroes will show up to stop me..."

Of course some villains get away with it, or it wouldn't be in their interest to do it. :p

The problem isn't always in the writing in so much as it's int he players who can't use common sense and realize "Hey, this isn't supposed to be something that's actually repeating itself over and over again, but rather just part of a MMO game experience."

For those who don't care anything about the story, this isn't a problem of course. For those who don't care about the story and complain anyways, well, they're going to complain anyways. :p

Although Shadow D did have the brass to initially masquerade as the real Dr. D on Champions Earth, to take advantage of DD's reputation. But the true Destroyer is back in the saddle.

Well, your mission was to investigate the weird stuff on the moon, but you got captured.

You didn't teleport to the cell in purpose!

Maybe the nemesis' all had their guard posts just in case the heroes break free (and you do DUH) and also, some of the nemesis' are guarded with like 10 Arena guards.

Or maybe Shadow D is dumb. Dumb du-dumb dumb dumb dumb.

I know right? How about the fact that both Destroyer and Therakiel have an immunity shield and they don't even use it all the time to like...not die?
