Seems as though the mega destroids power up instantly, rather then giving you a moment to destroy the power up panel, leaving you no option but to fight them. It's not impossible for me as a gold but certainly not possible for most archetypes. Also seeing as mega destroids don't drop any rewards it's certainly not worth the time or effort.

Are you on Elite difficulty?
The Mayhem Mega D gimmick has been updated. When you overcharge them they explode. Their behavior also changes based on difficulty.
Normal Difficulty: 50 seconds to overcharge, do not summon reinforcements
Difficult Difficulty: 50 seconds to overcharge, summon reinforcements after 30 seconds if they power up
Hard Difficulty: 15 seconds to overcharge, summon reinforcements
Very Hard Difficulty: 15 seconds to overcharge, summon reinforcements
Elite Difficulty: activate instantly, do not summon reinforcements
Also I should note that this only happened with the first mega destroid I encountered, later on when you're in the yard with all of those mega destroids I could overload.
I dropped the mission and reloaded it and was able to overload the first mega destroid.
Not sure what happened. I can't say I noticed any other differences beyond the ability to overload the mega destroids. I going to continue this first bit to see if I get this glitch with any of the other mega destroids.
I'm unable to reproduce this bug. I can overload all the other mega destroids, not that I had a problem with the other mega destroids last night, but I don't feel like replaying this section over and over again to see if I can get the same thing to repeat itself. It feels like the first destroid was somehow acting as though it was on elite difficulty with the ability to summon reinforcements (unless that's a typo and mega destroids are able to summon reinforcements on elite difficulty).
This happened to me before.. but here's something even crazier. My charachter had a lot strength stated. So I was able to pick up the console and run away with it. As soon as the Mega-D returned to the power station - I smashed the console. That caused him to deactivate.
Not sure why that worked. But I just figured it was part of the bug.
Its entirely possible that if you weren't originally team leader so it was based on that player's settings. Its possible you weren't paying attention to someone going into the mission before settings were changed. Changing settings outside the mission, even when no one is in it, won't reset it automatically. You usually have to break team and reinvite so a new instance will be created.
Resistance is usually a rare mission that would reset automatically the second everyone is out of it. They may have changed that though along with the "fix" for exp and resource gain from Mega Ds. Effectively breaking one of the few pieces of content that mostly worked in this game.
You might not be able to reproduce this bug reliably. But its still likely to happen enough to players who never have done it before and detract them from playing it and continuing the game from that point on.
I was in a group when I started this mission, we had to fight the first mega destroid, but were able overload the others. Between the first and second mega destroid we lost our team leader, he actually left midway through that first fight. I think it's entirely possible that he had set the difficulty to elite but that wouldn't explain how the difficulty switched mid adventure, how the mega destroid was able to summon reinforcements, or how it stayed on elite when I went back to it the next day would it?
Also the reason we didn't finish Resistance is because we had another bug in the sewers where the tunnels are supposed to flood but didn't. We were able to solve this by having someone leave the game and then rejoin but by then none of us had any interest in continuing the adventure.
Between the sewer not flooding, Griz getting stuck along his path, some of the cutscenes not activating or ending properly, and destroying a scouter drone too early, anything and everything can go wrong throughout making you start over.
Never encountered any of these bugs in Resistance....
Based on what other people are saying, seems like the best way to fix this is by leaving and re-entering the instance.

I ran into this three times, once running it with a group, which was no big deal, and twice on my own. This happened on the very first mega destroid where you have to blow up the supplies. I didn't have a healer with me so the second and third time I played this so I left and came back. The mega destroid instantly activated again and summoned back up all three times. I was able to fix this by completely dropping the mission and restarting it. Thankfully this bug happens almost at the start so I didn't have to replay very much to get around it.
The thing that has me confused is what Jimhsua posted back on page one. When I got this mission initially I was in a group and the group leader shared it with me. I was thinking that maybe he gave me the mission on elite difficulty and even though I quit and came back twice, maybe the mission stayed on elite. But then I read that they're not supposed to summon reinforcements on elite difficulty according to what he posted.
Seeing as Mega Destroids don't drop anything anymore there's no point in fighting them. Glitches like this one, if it was a glitch, really discourages silver players from playing content in the game. Which is a shame because I think Resistance is one of the better adventure packs in the game.

well if you beat 20 (I think that's the number of them to beat) Mega-Destroids, you get a perk that gives you a device that lets you drop a Mega-Destroid on a target.

No, I always run at normal, also they so summon reinforcements, another mega destroid, usually within 20 or 30 seconds of the fight starting.
Double check you skill level.
Whoever you are, be that person one hundred percent. Don't compromise on your identity.
Oh as soon as you mentioned that this was the first thing I did. I'm still on normal.

(I was on a Behemoth).
