I swear most of the people in the media who make a big fuss about this have never read a comic book in their life. This kind of stuff is rather commonplace in comics and is surprising to no one. Then again, I can see why this is news: everything else is "Event X with the fate of the multiverse in the balance where nothing will be the same until the movies mandate a return to status quo." :rolleyes:

And yes, Northstar came out. The writers had been hinting about that almost since Alpha Flight's creation, including one storyline that was intended to be about AIDS - but every time they tried to carry through, Marvel's editorial department flinched, to the point that the AIDS storyline was turned into some sort of thing about him being part-elf and his illness was due to being away from Elfland too long. (Yes, that was an actual storyline. This may help explain the first cancellation of Alpha Flight.) Then finally, I think in the '90s, somebody finally had the guts to have Northstar say he was gay - but of course it had to be in the middle of a huge fight where he was bashing the other guy through walls, so he could still be properly macho...

I recall that issue. It was horribly drawn. And yeah, Jim Shooter was one of the main people against him coming out. Eventually Scott Lobdell went ahead and did it anyways (which makes the way he has been treated by the media in more recent times all the more sad).
Of course, you want real LGBT shenanigens and not these token gay moments, you bust out a copy of Midnighter.

The current Catwoman is a Japanese girl called Eiko. Selina quit the costume to become the Don of Gotham. Also Eiko is ex-yakuza , Selina is also doing some part time lawyer stuff, also all this is dumb.

Not that I really want them to go changing characters for stupid press release reasons, but Ooooo wooooow two females kissing. Let me guess, they're saying this is a first in comics, like Falcon being the first black Captain America (been done) and there being a powerful woman superhero now that Thor is a woman (have we forgotten all the other powerful women superheroes?!).

DC has had gay characters for the longest time now, even had them kiss "on-screen" if you will. The one thing I find deplorable about comic book "journalism" is that it constantly likes to pretend as if Marvel is ahead of the curve when it reality DC has been the one that takes the risks and in many ways, the ones more willing to deal with issues of social importance. Race issues in Green Lantern, class issues in Green Arrow, politics in general (don't even get me started O'Neil's The Question which covered much of this tuff back in the 80s - a fine series btw) and so on and so on are stuff that DC has a history of dealing with. Throw in Vertigo, and that list expands even more. This is why back in the day people had a tendency to view Marvel as kids stuff and DC for grown-ups (though a silly idea because Marvel had it's strengths and was daring in their own right it was nonetheless prevalent for these reasons). Comics in general has always been there and the comic book "journalists" are the ones incredibly behind.
This is why I'm convinced that comic book journalism is comprised of people who just started reading comic books yesterday and have no understanding of the history behind the medium or any real understanding about the respective universes. They insist on making big deals about things that aren't a big deal and rather commonplace in comics. I feel as if it misrepresents the comic industry and community as a whole in the process and quite honestly, that doesn't seem right to me. It seems dishonest. It doesn't help that the comic book companies themselves make announcements with added hoopla, acting as if such is a new thing as well, trivializing what should be a powerful thing in itself and making it akin to a publicity stunt.
Saddest part being watching whatever social group is involved cheering like a bunch of monkeys being shown a rubber banana.

Indeed. It never feels like the companies are making an honest change. I'd be more convinced if they made a new character or brought back an old one and gave it new life. DC especially, since they have a whole universe (that they have since assimilated) filled with comic book characters who are diverse in gender, sexual identity, and race (Milestone Comics says hi), yet they rarely use any of the characters. One even had his own TV show and instead the slapped a poorly drawn, confusing series on him.
I've got a bad feeling about this:

That likely doesn't help that Bruce has been shown with her. Then we likely have writers and editors who grew up thinking "I want to see Batman with this villain" much like Joe Q grew up wanting to see Peter & MJ never marrying.
Not sure if it's the art I've seen on the covers or not, or just not wishing to pick up "The New 52" even though I liked some of it's ideas, but since picking up comics again, it's been mostly Marvel.
Amazing Spider-Man, X-Men, Spider-Woman, Silk, Spider-Gwen, Cyber Force, Death Vigil...only two of those aren't Marvel and I haven't seen a title for DC that looked interesting (I did like Red Hood & The Outlaws, Suicide Squad and Grifter when they came out) with the reboot.
Even thats gone stupid. DC have this thing where Thomas Wayne MIGHT be the immortal villain Dr Hurt.
So theres a 50/50 chance after he got shot down he walked it off and let his son go insane and dress up like a bat and run about with teenagers U__U"
OH and dont get me started on that Super Computer Batman built that keeps trying to kill everyone....
Then theres the fact that every fight Batman has with Superman he wins .... Batman couldnt take Bane but can beat Mr Kent ....seriously?

I mean really most of us feel kind of bad for her...but what kind of doctor(education and all) is being clearly manipulated by an extremely deranged individual(like text book deranged) yet still falls for it hook line and sinker? She was a remarkably terrible doctor...
