Nemesis wishlist: December 2014

1. Archetypes instead of Powersets. The existing Nemesis Powersets essentially are Archetypes already, in that they’re pre-established sets of powers chosen specifically so that an NPC can be programmed to use them effectively. Switching to Archetypes makes this clearer and opens up more options. I’d make all Archetypes available to the Nemesis, even if the player has a Silver Account. Alternately, place an initial limit of using the same Archetypes that are open to the player, but let the player unlock additional Nemesis-only Archetypes using Nemesis Tokens.

2. Travel Powers. Let me assign a travel power to my Nemesis, and let my Nemesis use it.

3. Auras, purchasable for a Nemesis’ use from the Nemesis Vendor using Nemesis Tokens.

4. Customizable Minion skins. It could be as simple as being able to select a pair of colors and maybe an emblem to incorporate into the Minions’ outfits, or it could be as elaborate as using the Tailor to custom-build the appearance of each kind of minion. Possibly make the latter be something that costs Questionite or Zen to do — or Nemesis Tokens.

5. the big one: use the Nemesis system as the focus for a Foundry-like design-your-own-mission system.

    We've been asking for numbers 1, 4, & 5 for years...

    Honestly I think we all would like some more control over the Nemesis's Powersets than just Archetypes, however, at least expanding the selection to include more power types and not just the general power sets would be a step in the right direction, hell we still can't even give our Nemesis the newer power sets.

    Unfortunately, Nemesis development is dead. Has been so since 2009.

    There hasn't been a Nemesis update since the system came out. Nemesis was applied to one mission and an alert thing since that favors players who don't have one over players that do.

    to put it plainly.
    We have been told that there are NO plans to do anything to the Nemesis system.
    This was in the Ask cryptic last year.

    A lot of the "no plans to do anything with X" responses can be traced back to the way the game was coded originally... or as they phrased it "jumbled mess"... apparently it's a complete nightmare to work with parts of the game they were programmed years ago, and simply adding one thing can break everything...

    We probably won't ever see any of the older stuff updated... not unless by some miracle we see a full year devoted to fixing the game... They would have to rewrite a lot of the older parts of the game from scratch to get things into a working order for new updates and additions... I for one would be perfectly happy with them doing that, and I've talked with dozens of others who would too.

    The problem though, is they don't have a full dev team anymore, so the chances of them ever revisiting older content and fixing the coding so that it can be updated is zero to none... our best bet is for a couple of the remaining devs to address things in their free-time and get it rolled out as part of a patch when they get a portion of the game fixed on their own... kinda like how we got the new Powerhouse.... but that will never happen... we'd literally be asking them to rewrite the whole game.

    Two words: Freeform nemesis.

    Two more words: Limited so they can't have more than one active offense/defense to avoid invincible/unkillable nemesis.

    Call Maverick if you need a DPS help, or Combat Medic if you need a healer.

    I am known for having extremely good or extremely bad luck with drops.

    Invincible/Unkillable builds can be made with only one active as well...

    However, the main problem with Freeform NPCs is that the system doesn't necessarily know how to handle every power combination. This can lead to high power builds turning into utter rubbish when used by a Nemesis. Then there is also the issue with people making unusable builds for nems to make them extremely easy to beat.

    This might sound nuts... But what if we had the current nemesis system locked out and had a new one built afresh? A lot of development time, I assume, but it'd probably be simpler than fixing the one we have.

    We've had major overhauls before, remember when all the loot tables changed to generic stat boosting items with a prefix suffix identification system on names?

    Assuming NPCs and stuff work for current Nemesis stuff until the players complete whatever missions, then they get a quest if they already have a nemesis on the old system to re-submit data to the Supervillain Identification Database, which then leads into the new nemesis system.

    Then we have all the new features in a slick recently programmed shell and the old nemesis system can be phased out.

    If it ain't fixable, hide it behind the underwear drawer and get a new one out.

    Don't worry, everyone.
    We will be getting Nemesis Sytsem upgrade when they finish working on the Foundry and the Streamlighted Nemesis Sytsem will be merged with it.

    I don't even bother making nemesis for my new character anymore
