The funniest thing about PvPer's...

...has got to be watching them run PvE content.

Really, have you seen someone with a dedicated PvP build in Gravitar? It's normally "Let's use Force Geyser every 1.X seconds while I wait for Unleashed Rage/Strafing Run/Shadow Strike to come back up." or "Let me use Ebon Ruin until I run out of energy then start throwing Boomerang Toss so I have enough energy for my Rimefire Burst."

I guess Mind Break builds have something to do, but it makes me want to commit seppuku just watching people run around with nothing to do. The drive for Justice Gear is strong, I see.

I can get pretty close to top DPS usually compared to others using my SR build.

It's not so much about the damage, but about having something to do in any downtime. Your build is still at least a concept and is squishy. You jump around with Super Jump with little to no knock resist. There are sacrifices made. Most others? Not so much. Most PvP builds do more than fine in PvE content, but it's boring as fock to watch.

At least you've got Dragon Uppercut. :^)
I do use both CC and CS, so I hold agro more than I'd like with all of that. When your only heal is Rank 1 Resurgence, tanking is not necessarily wanted, but it's interesting to say the least.

You PVPers make decent tanks in a flash, though. I've finished quite a few F&I PUGs with nothing but an AoPM guy tanking by running support and spamming the healz. That extra health helps...

Yeah I see what you mean, I keep a power at the top that I can switch in and out so if I'm running PvE stuff it's usually best if I put on ice blast or something so I can actually do something in the 12 or so seconds I'm waiting for CD's.

My pvp build spends most of its time tossing boomerangs... and occasionally I'll rip aggro from the tank and then keep it the rest of the fight.... while I jump around in big bouncy circles... I've heard that causes something to happen to other people in the fight... but I'm tanking so I aint' got time fo dat o3o

Also I thought being boring was the ultimate goal of any real pvper? We all know that the more interesting your build is, the worse it does in pvp.

That is one of the after effects. I actually talked to a PvPer recently and their thought process was that in this game, PvP is its main focus and it's all about making a build that does not die. Those were his exact words.

    It all makes sense now.

This game attracts the mentally ill. Just look at Conquer.

Hmm I bet it's either the Hero of Dorkness or the xxx-God of Bar-xxx.

However the second part is unfortunately half true, since in BASH, ZA and KOTH not dieing helps you get the win...especially in bash, tagging is so stupidly easy.

Now to be fair some popular powers PvP Builds use can be quite useful from Everyone
    • Ebon Ruin + Paranormal Paranoia (ADV) reduces the targets resistance to Paranormal (Dimensional, Ego, Magic) damage. Useful for EVERY member who deal Paranormal damage (as long as they took the ADV through...)
    • Ascension Really good AoE heal! Being really useful when there is few-to-non healers or when the majority of the party takes massive damage which cannot recover it time!

    and that's pretty much it

EDIT: Oh and the Aura of Primal Majesty small Bonus to teammates is good too

Sounds as fun build as watching Paint Dry
I have seen those Builds and I was thinking what the hell

Indeed, some of them make really good Builds!
But there are also those who Spam Clipping Challenge and then drop dead as soon as they get Gravy's Attention

    That! DON'T DO THAT!
The Force Cascades aimed to you will hit the nearest teammates who just keep staying in one place!

It's really frustating seeing people getting killed because someone was jumping around like a Bunny

Of course the last time I did Gravitar with Spinny, she was jumping in an Area with no members so no Damage was done

Also trying to Kiting Warlord and run around him in Circles like a total spaz... seeing everyone take massive damage from the Fire Laser

My biggest problem with CO PvE... For whatever reason it encourages standing still which is totally the opposite to what it should do especially for raid style game design. Makes things rather boring and predictable, also for a game like CO it ends up taking away from one of the best parts of the game which is travel powers.

Indeed, this is the part of PvE that I dislike as well!
Maybe this is why I like Melee characters more, they are always active while Range Builds just stand there :/

I know right ? Genius fire spire mechanic : don't move and you're safe ! Well.. why would I be moving in the first place, again ?

I've found the opposite to be true. Melee builds have a tendency to be chained to their targets, while ranged builds have the freedom to actually move.

I have fond memories of getting yelled at for jumping around in gravitar, and the person saying "Ha just wait until you try that in fire and ice, you'll kill everyone and be black listed from all PQs!".

That's what I'm talking about whenever I say that we went through a brief period where people started acting like this was WoW xD
