Hi guys, I'm trying another crazy build lol

So far, this is what I've got... it's VERY subject to change though... lvl 13 at the moment

Link to this build: http://powerhouse.nullware.com/powerhouse.html?v=9&n=Telepath%20FF&d=1537biWPNdcM070F004F201F40DI90065007G007Q003705F705FG01DM00OC05LC055D0000n42Wvb0mZp

What I'm hoping for is to make a toon that can really ace those bosses on Serpent Lantern. I recently got pwned by that one (I can't remember his name) the whole room was electrified, and I kept getting knocked around and couldn't do anything but die.

I decided to try a mix of tank type defensive abilites, and the seldom used Telepathy powers in an attempt to control the fight better. Anyway, I gotta get back to playing... any advice would be greatly appreciated! :D

For those that don't want to use powerhouse

PS: If anyone knows of a better character builder then Powerhouse, please let me know where to find it. PH doesn't let you know when you are mixing two abilities that the game won't actually let you mix. Thanks...

Oh and another question.. with Ego Sprites... Would adding Accelerated Metabolism on them have a chance to proc according to their DoT, or is it per application?

EDIT: About an hour after I first posted this, I made a couple changes... with Concentration and MSA. Updated this. I just thought they would work better s they are more universal.

If knocks are an issue ya could invest in some Strength, or go for CON Primary for Resilient, or get Circle of Primal Dominion and stand in it when ya want knock resist. Getting a block enhancer and ranking it up can also help vs. knocks, but only if you block at the right times.

Ur build is a bit scattered atm. If ya want a telepath then Unstoppable isn't a good passive choice- it doesn't provide much defensively and only boosts melee and/or physical dmg powers (TP powers are Ego/Paranormal, and non-physical). Ego Form isn't a bad pick for an Offensive Passive, since it also boosts ur defenses a bit, or take Quarry + Int gearing. Shadow Form and Congress of Selves would also work w/ Telepathy, but the reduced threat isn't that useful when doing solo content, and they aren't as good defensively.

Alternative is taking a Defensive Passive and using the Hybrid role (instead of the Ranged dps role). You'll take a big hit to ur power damage, but gain a large amount of survival overall. This is really nice when rounding up large packs of mobs when solo to be AoE'd, as killing bosses and small groups will take quite longer and be less efficient than for a dps-oriented build.

Edit: seems ya updated the build from the link- looks much cleaner and focused on Telepathy + Sorcery now. Ur still missing a good healing power that's not a pet, though (could replace Vapor Form). If ya have some pets then ya could consider taking a Support aura passive for them, though that'd take some Pres gearing.

Here's how a control-based mix of Mentalist + Sorcery could work, using some pets for support when solo:

    PowerHouse (Link to this build)

    Super Stats:
    Level 6: Intelligence (Primary)
    Level 10: Constitution (Secondary)
    Level 15: Presence (Secondary)

    Talents:
    Level 1: The Grimoire
Level 6: Jack of All Trades
    Level 9: Diplomatic
    Level 12: Shrug It Off
    Level 15: Healthy Mind
    Level 18: Acrobat
    Level 21: Coordinated

    Powers:
    Level 1: Psi Lash
Level 1: Eldritch Blast (Rank 2, Sorcerer's Whim)
Level 6: Shadow of Doubt (Rank 2)
Level 8: Aura of Primal Majesty (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 11: Manipulator
    Level 14: Conviction (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 17: Molecular Self-Assembly
Level 20: Mental Storm (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 23: Telekinetic Maelstrom (Rank 2, Rank 3)
Level 26: Ritual of Radiant Summoning (Rank 2, Unbound Ritual)
    Level 29: Skarn's Bane (Rank 2, Rank 3)
    Level 32: Masterful Dodge
Level 35: Force Shield (Rank 2, Force Sheathe)
Level 38: Ritual of Arcane Summoning (Unbound Ritual)

    Travel Powers:
Level 6: Jet Pack (Rank 2)
    Level 35: Teleportation

    Specializations:
    Intelligence: Enlightened (3/3)
    Intelligence: Battle of Wits (3/3)
    Intelligence: Detect Vulnerability (2/3)
    Intelligence: Expertise (2/2)
    Sentinel: Torment (2/2)
    Sentinel: Sentinel Aura (3/3)
    Sentinel: Moment of Need (3/3)
    Sentinel: Wither (2/2)
    Overseer: Administer (3/3)
    Overseer: Overseer Aura (2/3)
    Overseer: Trapped (3/3)
    Overseer: Conservation (2/2)
    Mastery: Intelligence Mastery (1/1)

Such a build is very potent against CC-able mobs, as it can stun for long durations at a time w/ TK Maelstrom, and Eldricth Blast gets nice damage on stunned targets. Bosses can be hit w/ Skarn's, Mental Storm, and Shadow of Doubt. You'd get some damage boosts from debuffing mobs w/ CC-effects (for Tapped and Wither), which can help you and ur pets.

Ya still have decent defenses and heals available, and AoPM boosts all stats to help with that. This build would gear mostly for Int and Con, w/ a side of Pres.
PS: If anyone knows of a better character builder then Powerhouse, please let me know where to find it. PH doesn't let you know when you are mixing two abilities that the game won't actually let you mix. Thanks...
Not sure what ya mean by that. Only power restrictions are tier requirments, which the planner mostly handles, and not being allowed >1 Energy Unlock (which the planner also takes care of).
Oh and another question.. with Ego Sprites... Would adding Accelerated Metabolism on them have a chance to proc according to their DoT, or is it per application?
Accel Metab isn't usually worth the point, since it has an internal cd of ~10-12 seconds, and doesn't give much energy per proc. It would trigger on the power's activation, though.

Yes, the reason I thought the drones might be a better choice is because they can heal while I do other things.

The reason I wanted Defiant is because I wanted tank-type toughness, but with ranged abilities instead of melee. And those ranged abilities, instead of the usual, would be Telepathy (mostly). That way I would have really good damage resists, which is less healing and deaths. I just solo PvE, so actual *Tanking* isn't really what I'm after, just the toughness, and I really like Defiance. And whatever those Serpent Lantern bosses are doing, I'd like to either waltz right through it like it's nothing, counter their ability to do it at all, or both.

If this approach doesn't work, I'll be sorely tempted to just go all melee and make a Devastator / Thor type toon that just goes in and lays down the law. Knockbacks everywhere lol. I tried a weird (but pretty good) Night Warrior based, Specialist / Soldier based build that was a Gun Kata type toon, but I do NOT like defense based stuff, and never have, even back on CoH. Defense means you will get hit, and when you do, it's re-spawn time. Even if you do have Shadow Strike.

And yes I'm just running in Hybrid (Lightning Bolt symbol) which I call Avenger for some odd reason, it's just something I started calling it.

I really don't know anything about Vapor Form, but just assumed it meant you become intangible and can make an escape and disappear with it if things get too rough.

I'm not set on having the pets, as they usually die pretty quickly anyway. There might be a better way to go here that will make me able to avoid all the "getting knocked around like a rag doll" stuff. Putting in Strength isn't going to be easy for a ranged type toon, but I suppose it could be done if done carefully. I thought about going with Congress of Selves... here, I found this description of it on steam

    "Congress of Selves
    Hybrid Passive

The only one of its kind, Congress of Selves will apply a boost to all Ego DoT damage you do (actually, all Ego damage period), and also boosts your defense penetration, energy efficiency, and your stealth and threat reduction. It can be used in any role, and becomes silly when combined with a stat like Dex - you can basically waltz straight through enemy territory without anyone doing anything.
Conditioning - Enemies you hit have a much harder time healing. Good for two things: PvP, and killing Ao'qephoth. "

    (found at http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=180409692)

Of course, that doesn't give me passive resists (I.E. Defiance) against damage. Just imagine a tank type character that decided to pass on melee, and go ranged telepath. Really tough to destroy, and with telepathic abilities, debuffs, etc. Just a crazy idea lol.

As for PH not having enough info... it really doesn't. It's possible on there to put multiple Slotted abilities without any kind of warning or anything . It just needs more info. For now, the best thing to do is actually go to the Power House in game, where you can really see what the abilities do. But, this means you gotta go ahead and start a toon, and sort of play it by ear without the foresight of planning in advance.

My whole concept for this character is one that is... to make a long story short, basically a hologram, and if things get rough, can simply disappear, and / or not even be affected by enemies at least for a short duration.

Once again thank you very much for your advice and help :D
    You are teh awesome Flowcyto!

Oh, ya can def make a full-on Telepathy tank that doesn't need to melee (I have one or two sample ones in my Themed Tanks doc in the sig if ya wanna see some templates for how they could work- those are 'formal' group tank builds, though that usually means they pick up CripC/CS advs instead of normal ranks).

Defiance is a really good defense passive when solo. I also like it just cause energy largely becomes a non-issue w/ most powers, and it saves ya 4 adv points. If ya wanna keep it, I say go ahead. My vision of a Telepathy solo-tank is one that spreads Ego Sprites, Ego and Mental Storm, and SoD or ML around w/o much a care in the world- the slow but constant burn. Lotsa interrupts, lotsa DoTs- just a bit lacking in ST dps w/o using TP Reverb and Ego Blast w/ Mind Opener (TP Reverb scaling w/ Pres). Can also get Night Terror w/ Summon Nightmares and summon those on every threatening mob if ya want to spread even more fun (would take more management in casting than the perm pets, but be more effective for dmg and distraction).

The PH planner allowing ya to have >1 slotted passive and such isn't really its fault- that's all down to the player knowing what to do w/ their build. I mean, there are players that use >1 passive and role or gear swap, or have 2 mini-builds in one where they could feasibly use 2 diff toggles/forms, etc. FF is all about.. well, freedom, and ya do that by not restricting things that aren't actually restricted in-game. Just like in-game, the planner won't throw those sort of arbitrary restrictions on you (not like the game warns you not to take >1 passive or w/e anyways- again, just gotta figure that out and take adv of the PH testing rooms).

GL out there w/ w/e build ya settle on. Ya can make a good/fun solo build w/ Telepathy- esp since there's no dps teammates to break ur CC instantly :x

Whoah, hold on! I just re-checked those links, and the recent changes to the PH planner seemed to have altered some of the powers in the builds quite a bit from what they actually were (its a bug w/ links from older versions).

Uh oh.. well, looks like I have to do some investigating, but dun mind me if I fix some of the builds in light of this. The text parts of the doc are still fine, but if something looks off w/ the linked builds, it may not be intended.

If I run into any problems, or see anything confusing I'll post something on here and let ya know.

And on a totally different subject, something I was wondering about several days ago... also I did something very much like this on CoH just for giggles... How would you go about making a toon that has as much knockback as possible? I mean... a southern gospel choir is singing as so much stuff is flying around, and it just becomes sad. THAT much knockback. A Purple Gang guy gets hit, and flies completely off the screen, disappearing. THAT much knockback. Or as close as possible. On everything. Just a... walking knockback pride parade. lol. I was just wondering if it was possible on here.

Just updated the Themed Tank guide w/ some revisions and also correcting all the bugs in the PH build links.

The document should be up-to-date now. Kept a copy of the old version just in case.

And now, the bigger nightmare: all my other old builds and my build dump document *screams*
(Well, at some point I'm just gonna stop caring, rofl)

Might (or Force for ranged equivalent). Specifically get Haymaker and Roomsweeper, take STR PSS, and gear for heavy Strength.

For Force, get Force Cascade and Detonation (and force blast for when energy is low), take EGO PSS, and gear for heavy Ego.
