For my first Automaton I'm going old school - REALLY old school!

So yeah - you might have seen other posts from me with pics of costumes that I designed that are very much in the 70s Giant Robot genre.

Naturally - when I found out that one of the main offensive powers of the Automaton AT was going to be ROCKET PUNCH!!!!...

Well - I knew what I had to do. Heh.

I present -

MAZINGER!

And if I do wind up keeping the character - I have some ideas for a visual upgrade once I make him into a Freeform. :)

And yes - Rocket Punch really IS that much fun to use! :D

Sadly, I think this character is a TOS violation.

Yeah, the name, and obvious visual representation of the character, are undoubtedly copyrighted and likely wouldn't be allowed. But a name change and mixing up some of the details of the costume would probably get you by.

Really nice rendition of a classic mech, though.

Oh I don't really intend to keep him - he's just my "Level up to 40 to get the goodies for freeform" character. If I do keep him - I'll definitely go for a name change.

I just figured I'd have some fun along the way. :)

I think that 70's Super Robo genre has some designs generic enough to the point when it is possible to just change the name and alter the costume.
They all look very similar to Mazinger with mostly white-red-gold-blue color schemes and just different head designs.

Heck, just giving him a samurai helmet on a robotic head with mouthplate and renaming him to Super Robo would be enough.

They should add becoming a robot laser sharknado a power.
Or maybe a pack of robot cats travel power. Something like that.

I think GO-NAGAI, the original author of Mazinger never care such thing.

Me can ask GO-NAGAI because one of my friend is disciples of him.
Should me do it? All Cryptic problem and I can speak Japanese. I can only speak Japanese. o3o

It doesn't matter if the original author says it's okay, though - it's still going to be a ToS violation.

On the other tentacle, there's a good chance you won't get caught at it - I for one have never heard of Mazinger, and am almost totally unfamiliar with anime and manga. So have fun!

These two statements are related. It's like saying "I'm totally unfamiliar with sci-fi, but have never heard of this 'Star Wars' thing before."

Mazinger is second only to perhaps Gundam in terms of famous Japanese giant robots.

I remember as a child pleading for the two foot tall Mazinga (Mattel *rejects* your puny names!) toy. I ended getting a weird tank with a mouth and spindly yellow pincer arms (?Varitank?) that was the size of my hand, because "Well you said you wanted one of those Shogun toys." That was also the Christmas I got the Star Trek gorn figure that looked like a brown alligator in ToS Klingon gear. :)
