Here's a newish, yet, suddenly common unsafe password.

And don't use this old one...

Heck, it's so well known it's on a t-shirt.

This site has info on making a strong password...
http://howsecureismypassword.org/

While this one test your password's strength.
https://howsecureismypassword.net/

Edit- Huh. Looks like I just create a password that the site says...

It would take a desktop PC about 5 quintillion years to crack your password. It's long. REAL LONG.

And another that it says...

It would take a desktop PC about 32 sextillion years to crack your password.

And it's not nearly as long. But now I'm confused. Which is bigger number: quintillion or sextillion?

Ignoring the info about a mole... this is a handy guide :)

Edit: By the way, thanks to xkcd, "correcthorsebatterystaple" is an unsafe password now.

Or you can know your latin prefixes -- bi- (2), tri- (3), quad- (4), quint- (5), sex- (6), sept- (7), oct- (8), non/nov- (9), dec- (10). Which may cause you to wonder why September is not month 7, October is not month 8, November is not month 9, and December is not month 10.

That would be because of the change in calendars

It looks like we can blame it on Numa Pompillius, which places it way back in semi-legendary Roman history; prior to that the year started in March.

I put in an old password I used that said it would take 63 million years to crack. Its an old password because someone cracked it.

I put in an old password I used that said it would take 63 million years to crack. Its an old password because someone cracked it.

Those estimates on how long are just calculating how many combinations a computer would have to try if the cracker was just attempting to try each combination of a password (also known as a "brute force attack") and assumes it won't succeed until it has run through all of them. Obviously, it's quite likely that your password will get hit in the random guesses before then.

That estimate also goes down the drain when you consider that most of your crackers have many more sophisticated methods than the inefficient brute force attack. Thanks to previously hacked password lists, hackers can cut the guessing down dramatically. It's actually rather scary to think about, considering how much we depend on just logging in with a username and password for many important things.

Mine is in a different language, combined with an old phone number, and 4 random picked special characters.

Or you can also simply smash your face into the keyboard, copy what you smashed into a notepad, and from now on just enter your password from opening that notepad document and copy and pasting whatever was on there into your login.

Turns out Caliga and all the first letters of his tagline to make "caligatsoartmoak" is a tough one to crack. Who knew?

Still...KempoJujitsusBuildsRule would take 23 sextillion years.

    Ahhh good Wednesday fun. :)

    While we're on long words...

My favorite probably is floccinaucinihilipilification (hm, I spelled that correctly from memory after 2 attempts). And, it's actually a word that you can use in regular conversation:

"I find his floccinaucinihilipilification of my build advice simply degrading. He should be banned immediately".

    Speaking of passwords...

There's a news article today that about there was a large number of Gmail passwords revealed today, though many of them were old. Still, if you have a Gmail account it's advisable to change your password.
