Maintenance 9/10 @ 7am - Steel Crusade Pt. 1! (Complete)

As you've probably noticed, we're going to be having maintenance a day earlier than usual, on Wednesday instead of Thursday. This is because of the relatively dark tone of the Steel Crusade update -- we'd like to avoid launching it on Thursday, because of the date.
Start time: 7am PDT
Estimated duration: 1.5 - 2.5 hours
This will launch Part 1 of Steel Crusade, including three new missions (all but the finale) and the Reawakened Automaton archetype. Read the preview blog, check out the Reawakened Automaton, and get ready for an awesome giveaway this weekend!
Update 1 (7:53 AM PDT) Unfortunately there was an issue that has occurred with maintenance and we will need to extend maintenance by up to 2 hours. We'll let you know if anything changes. I blame Mechanon

So, the "epic" archetype was on purpose built with stacking mechanic subpar to even the Soldier?
And not even the AT itself. This form toggle.
Someone failed to realise that form toggles are needed mostly for PvP and boss fights. Nobody picks them for clearing trash mobs, PBAoEs alone can handle minions. Targeting Computer is one of tle less popular passives because of its lockdown time.
If you are introducing the toggle form designed to work that way and justified by picking TC as your passive, all you do is introducing the Fluidity v2. An unpopular power that will be largely skipped by players.
Ideas like this one look good on paper, but it really pays to listen to your players when you are told they don't work in practice.
The Steel Crusade update it's very good on its own.
It's just this entire idea with the AT is less than fortunate.
Take this lesson and never, ever introduce new powers via AT in the future.
The best what can be said about the Reawakened Automaton is it has very nice starting costume. Aside of that, it only antagonises and provides you with the negative feedback from the part of your FF playerbase.
Why? There are kids playing this game who don't even remember the attacks. Some may not have even been born. It's been 13 years, and while I won't try to diminish the tragedy that occurred, it bothers me that it's holding so much power over us that a superhero video game won't even release an update on the anniversary.
Well, let me tell you sir, 9/10 is not without tragedy.
In 1861, 170 people died in the Battle of Carnifex Ferry.
In 1897, 20 unarmed immigrant miners were killed in what is known as the Lattimer Massacre.
In 1954, A twelve-second earthquake kills 1,460 in Orleansville, Algeria.
Truly a horrible day Cryptic, and how dare you disrespect their memory be releasing a "dark" update on the day of those events. Lighten up guys. I crashed my Skyfox into one of the buildings in Ren Center, nobody had PTSD induced flashbacks to 9/11. Just say "We're updating early because we want to give you the new content sooner! Enjoy, because we're a video game company that takes pride in making quality content available quickly, and nothing we do is seriously compared to events that took place over a decade ago."
Also, tomorrow is my payday, so I'm gonna be having a GREAT day. Screw the Taliban.

A concept can never be received well if the implementation is done incredibly poor. When the player base turns down a good idea you may have, its because you did it poorly or in a way that only frustrates them. You come up with a great sounding idea, but it mostly never turns out the way you hyped it to be. That's disingenuous and essentially to the point of lying with how much Cryptic does it.
This is going on the list of things no specific Cryptic employee/employer takes credit for. Right next to Aura Sets not being granted to all our characters. A list of things that if someone personally took credit for, they would be endlessly ridiculed for such incompetence.
Please take your job more seriously from here on out if you wish to pursue a second Awakened Archetype.

We'll have a preview of the Recog store... probably Thursday or Friday, depending on when it goes on PTS.
Everyone has different experiences. While I don't think the shadow of a tragedy should control our lives, tweaking the release date of a game is hardly giving up agency, especially if it helps avoid hurting someone. I was born and raised in California, but I respect that the date is a trigger for some people.
To return to levity: I wouldn't bake this cake. :biggrin:
But atleast the story is here and it doesn't end in an alert. That is amazing to me.
And I fully agree on the automaton stuff. Not worth it to level to 40 just for rocket punch.
Have you logged in as a level 40? It triggers when you log in on one.

That button has never worked. I think the link was dug from the STO forums...
Hmmm.. the LTS Title option was awailable somewhere...now i'm drawing a blank. Can't find it anywhere...Rest of the Titles can't be used. Like the oparty on, dudes! and Pouches and rest...TT can activate them individualy i thinks, if you ask nicely.

Prrrety sure that's true, that we didn't have an automatic way to allow titles. But yeah, as long as it's not a zillion people asking, I can definitely set people up with Vanguard.

I like the idea in general as well. But with what is being released now is not at all worth the time (or money in case of retrain tokens) to complete. Rocket punch is neat but not that neat.
